Two and a half years after retiring due to concussions, former Texas QB David Ash will be participating in Texas' upcoming pro day.
Spike Dykes passed away this morning. Retired in '99 with the most wins of any Texas Tech Football Head Coach at the time.

In OSU news, we picked up two big grad transfers over the last couple of days. Adrian Baker, a CB from Clemson and Aaron Cochran, a 6'8" 350 lb. left tackle from Cal.
Really helps with two of our biggest needs. Gonna be really disappointed if we don't average 50 per game this season.

Gondo State bowl rings -
They were actually 10-3 last season. They're refusing to acknowledge the Central Michigan loss due to the blown call by the refs.

Fun fact: Gundy and Westbrook have the same theme song.
In addition to Charles Thompson's kid, Texas also flipped OU's current QB commit. Pretty funny how that all worked out.
Wonder if Thompson will flip to OU now?
Our current QB commit Spencer Sanders was recently ranked as the top QB in Texas by ESPN.
It would sure be nice to put together a top 20 recruiting class for once. I feel like we should be able to with our facilities, stability, and consistency on the field.

Looks like our leading receiver from last season, Jonathan Giles, is transferring. He got passed up as our playmaker late in the year as the younger Keke Coutee started to come on but he still finished with 268 more yards.
By KingGondo Go To PostKinda crazy that Cannon didn't get drafted. Wonder if it's just residual stink from Baylor?I think it's just the Baylor offense altogether. The WRs only run 3 routes.
Just grabbed a commitment from CJ Moore, an ESPN 300 receiver for next year's class.
If we can keep Spencer Sanders committed at QB and have a nice year on the field this could be our best recruiting class under Gundy.

By cashman Go To PostI think it's just the Baylor offense altogether. The WRs only run 3 routes.Cannon is basically the apex example of what cashman is talking about. He's nothing but a "run fast, go deep" guy; relatively small, doesn't have great quickness, weak route runner. He's going to have to add a LOT to his toolbox to make it in the NFL.
Past that, and past the Baylor scandal "residual stink," Baylor draft picks under Briles have a long history of disappointing. Terrence Williams just got re-signed by the Cowboys but other than him I'm not sure that there is a single Baylor draftee since Briles took over that signed a second contract with the team that drafted him (and it's not because they got big paydays elsewhere).
Corey Coleman had a nice rookie season in Cleveland.
Draft weekend really just hammered home the terrible state of the Big 12 though. Guys from other conferences are presumed to be playing against a higher level of competition, which helps their draft stock, which helps other conferences' recruiting classes, which helps their perception, which helps their draft stock, etc. etc.
I don't think there's any way for the conference to redeem itself either. Maybe if Texas and OU get back to competing on a national level with quality challengers like OSU? But even then they have a long way to go.

By KingGondo Go To PostCorey Coleman had a nice rookie season in Cleveland. As far as relating that to the limited route tree thing, Coleman had a bigger bag of tricks than Cannon. Close to the same size but nobody ever talked about moving Cannon to the inside at the NFL level like they did with Coleman because Cannon is more limited athletically.
If you check Cannon's NFL.com draft profile almost the entire thing is code for "production comes from outrunning everybody." Poor route balance, "hard to overthrow," lacking stop-and-open ability, body catching and waiting for throws means defenders aren't near enough to be fighting him for it, etc. Now look at Coleman's and read things about winning contested balls, talent with the ball in his hands, movement in tight spaces, body control, etc., and a good chunk of his weaknesses are mental things a team would generally believe he could be coached on.
As far as Coleman relating to my other point about Baylor draft picks disappointing, remember that RG3 was rookie of the year and a Pro Bowler in 2012, then he didn't even make it through his second season without getting benched (as in "marked inactive for the last part of the season," not even "demoted to second string.").
Kendall Wright was a bum for us. If he caught it with a lane he was outta there but other than that he was awful.
By KingGondo Go To PostWow.And he was signed for a $45,000 signing bonus as well, which is a lot for a UDFA, which means he was a priority for them to pick up originally. Most players don't get above $15,000 IIRC (and a lot, maybe the majority, get nothing, but again this is just IIRC).
Have you heard anything about Rhule so far?
Curious if he can get them even remotely close to where they were under Briles.

By KingGondo Go To PostHave you heard anything about Rhule so far?Not too much. He's got that new coach fresh smell and is recruiting to a team with multiple conference titles, though he also made a big deal about having one or more TEs on the field for all but 2 plays of their Spring game so we'll see how his AAC ball control offense translates to the Big XII (or more importantly how his AAC defense translates).

By KingGondo Go To PostTrying ball control in the Big 12? Sounds like a recipe for 8 wins max.Especially when I heard recently they only have 7 scholarship offensive linemen right now. Likely going to be relying heavily on the 5-6 true freshmen arriving in the Summer. A run game isn't generally something you can do with smoke and mirrors if your OL depth/talent isn't up to snuff unless you're going to go full Navy/Chop Block U.
Under Rhule Temple averaged ~90th ranked offense (never higher than 66th) but ~39th ranked defense (which is misleadingly high, as he had three top 25 finishes and a 111th ranked outlier in his first season). I think he's going to try to come in and be Kansas State part 2 but Snyder is a sorcerer whose results aren't easily reproduced.
Besides, do you think Baylor's donors would be happy with KSU levels of success?
They probably should, but these are Texas football donors we're talking about here.
In OSU-related news, supposedly Gundy is finally about to sign his contract extension. He needs to be the coach here until he retires.

As of today the only teams that have fewer Big XII conference wins than Baylor (53) are Iowa State (46), Kansas (39), TCU (25), and West Virginia (22). Yes, that means they still have fewer Big XII conference wins than Colorado (60), Missouri (63), Nebraska (81), and Texas A&M (68). They only passed Kansas and Iowa State in 2014.
that KD Cannon dude you guys keep talking about got picked up by the jets

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/19403308/woman-reported-gang-rape-baylor-football-players-files-title-ix-lawsuit
The woman's lawsuit asserts that the members of the Baylor football team had "already developed a system of hazing their freshman recruits by having them bring or invite freshman females to house parties hosted by members of the football team. At these parties, the girls would be drugged and gang raped, or in the words of the football players, 'trains' would be run on the girls."
The lawsuit alleges that the gang rapes were a "bonding" experience for the players and that photographs and videotapes of the "semi-conscious" girls were taken during the assaults and "circulated amongst the football players."
The lawsuit says a 21-second videotape of two female Baylor students being gang-raped by several football players circulated among the team.
