So Bedlam is for the Big 12 title. Again.
I think we really have a chance this year but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.
But OU's defense looks absolutely horrible.

I'd feel bad for Charlie had I not seen that defense this year. This actually for first Texas game I haven't seen this year. Wtf was the game plan that ends up with Foreman getting 51 fucking carries.
Defense is a tragedy, a sham, and a mockery all at once.
In other news Darnold nice as fuck. USC gonna fuck around and become appointment TV again for me.

I like to think of myself as a fairly rational and non-superstitious person... But when it comes to Bedlam I just get a horrible feeling in my gut.
I feel like no matter how well-equipped we are, no matter how porous OU's defense is, no matter how well we play, that we'll find a way to lose.
I've been burned so badly so frequently, even during the best era in OSU's football history that I'm afraid to get my hopes up. We've only beaten OU twice in the Gundy era.

By KingGondo Go To PostHe got a job and did a pretty bad job at it, and he's gonna get fired with a golden parachute.
I don't feel bad for him.
Yeah, he definitely did not get done like Ty Willingham did.
By Phoenix RISING Go To PostYeah, he definitely did not get done like Ty Willingham did.I'm also seeing everyone starting to talk about Texas all of a sudden being legit next year, and taking it as gospel that they have a lot of talent if they can just get the right coach to unlock it...
Not so sure about that. They have a few nice players but besides Buechele and Foreman I can't name another offensive player. Same with Jefferson on defense.
I would expect Herman to succeed there, but I'm also skeptical that the turnaround will be immediate. A lot of those star players that UT should have been getting the last few years went to OU, Baylor, or the SEC.
They haven't lost much talent to Baylor or OU in the past couple recruiting classes, but they have lost out on a few guys to some SEC teams which they don't have to play.
As for the offense, I think nobody really shined this year because the Buechele is just not ready as a thrower yet. Duvernay and Collin Johnson are going to be good in the future, but the offense is so simplistic right now that they just haven't been creative enought with them. That's not to mention that Connor Williams is likely going to be a top 5 OL prospect in the 2018 draft.
The defense is like 6th in the country in sacks and they lose very little of that production next year. LBs and DB haven't performed really well, but you still have a lot of young players there and we'd have to see how they develop.
posted it on gaf but I'll post the depth chart again here for reference. It's really hard to have a good defense if you're starting 8 Sophomores

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Herman is able to immediately jump up into the top 3 of the conference, but I also think it's far from a sure thing.
That said, the conference is in a transitional phase right now and the only teams they'll definitely be picked behind next year are OU and OSU.

LSU trying to swoop in and snag Herman before Texas can fire Strong.
What the hell is UT gonna do if they can't get Herman?

This season for Baylor played out almost exactly like I hoped it would for our game today, with a quick start then collapse as the mental toll of the scandal took its toll and injuries hit their thin depth chart, and we still may not be able to take advantage.
Our offensive inconsistency has been killing us. The defense is the defense, we all knew what that would look like in general, but the offense falling flat so often this season really hurts.

Aaaand of course the manage to hold on.
Now time to see if UH can keep the mighty Memphis Tigers from scoring.

Herman pulled the same BS sumlin did to us a few years ago. I called it. Told my bro in law to take the points on Memphis because ive seen this before. Distractions upon distractions with the coach already halfway out the door. For all the good he's done here, he's done a pretty bad job of getting the team up for conference games, which are more important.
Whatever. Congrats LSU.

By domino Go To Posta real Fedora special today. guess we don't have to worry about him leaving after that.fedora is unc football personified
Apparently us managing to get together Kingsbury's $9.4 million buyout isn't as far fetched as we thought, thought still unlikely. Word is many donors think we stand to lose more than that by keeping him.
Word is also that a not insignificant portion of those donors are all in on wanting Briles.

How embarrassing.
I know that feeling with Travis Ford and basketball, except our alums wanted Gottlieb who had no pedigree whatsoever.

Well, this nightmare season for Notre Dame is almost over, but first a beat down in LA.
I think Brian Kelly is done, he knows it and DeShone Kizer is headed to either Cleveland or Chicago (I hope for his sake it's the latter) in the draft.
If Kelly goes they'll attempt to break the bank and hire Urban Meyer. He'll laugh and then say thank you because he loves Jesus. We just don't have the parts for him to turn things around and I don't think he's the type of coach to take knocks for a year if he doesn't have to while he rebuilds the entire program.
Darker times ahead.

That's the Western Michigan coach? He'll definitely be in the conversation along with Chris Petersen at Washington and maybe the Tarheels coach. But I really don't know what they're thinking is moving forward.
By Vlatko Go To PostThat game killed meUM fucked up at several key moments, basically.
Have no idea how we won that but I'll take it.
Who now? Jim Bob Cooter seems like a good choice.
I'm also disappointed that there hasn't been much suspense with the open jobs so far. Oregon could get interesting since they have so much money and there are no obvious candidates.
You could do worse than Holgorsen.

Who knows. He will last until next year because the AD is retiring and they haven't announced the replacement and the chancellor is in the middle of being hired and trying to hire someone who doesn't know who their boss is gonna be will be hard.
Gameday will be at the B1G championship, not at Bedlam.
First time in 23 years that the Big 12 doesn't get coverage from them.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that happen fairly often. Aren't all the big Big 12 games usually on Fox?
Yes, but the matchups have been butt as well.
To add insult to injury, we're 14.5 point dogs.
Seems wayyyyyy high to me.

No surprise whatsoever, but our AD confirmed Kingsbury is the coach going forward.
As has been suspected over recent weeks Kingsbury "self-identified" that he needs to be taking a more active hand in overseeing the defense. Don't think he's giving up playcalling duties on offense but the AD says the "day to day operations" will be noticeably different next season.
If nothing else it will be nice to hear Kingsbury say "we" instead of "they" more often when talking about the defense.

How are things looking next year? I assume Mahomes is likely to go pro?
Pristine post incoming -
On offense, we're returning end-of-the-season starters at 10 spots, so pretty good on that front. Mahomes leaving would make it just 9, of course. I think the general sentiment is that he's gone but it's not a sure thing. Would suck to lose him but QB play under Kliff isn't something that particularly concerns me. We did just put an offer out to a JUCO QB in recent weeks, which is the sign many were looking for that would denote he made his decision to leave, but there are also some rumors that it's related to us possibly losing our true freshman QB to some off the field troubles so it's a bit ambiguous.
On defense, we're only returning about half of our starters but we may be getting back Dakota Allen, who was our best LB in 2015 as a redshirt freshman but was kicked off the team in the spring after an arrest. Played lights out at a JUCO this season and apparently all the charges against him were dropped so there's a decent chance he's back. LB depth is probably my #1 concern on the defense, with a lot of our DBs returning, a lot of DB commits already, and a lot of our freshmen DL redshirting. We started a Houston transfer walk-on at LB this season that wasn't even a 2-deep LB at Houston (played FB) and that's not a good strategy for winning games.
Our interior run defense was actually a lot better than you would think this season, but off tackle runs still murdered us so it was hard to tell. We also had no pass rush to speak of. Expecting at least one JUCO LB and one JUCO DE in this class to try to shore that up.
Do you think a bowl berth next season will be enough for Kliff to save his job, or does he need 7 or 8 wins?
By KingGondo Go To PostDo you think a bowl berth next season will be enough for Kliff to save his job, or does he need 7 or 8 wins?Bowl berth alone could do it IMO so long as we don't have any more total embarrassments like WVU and ISU.
