By s y Go To PostLooks like I made a good decision to stop at season 1, which I greatly enjoyed.I enjoyed season 2 as well, but the third just didn't wrap things up in a believable or satisfying way at all. I guess they just didn't have a conclusion in mind when they started out (which seems insane given the setup in S1) because there are literally zero original or surprising ideas.
Great acting and the show is still shot in a very unique and captivating way. But that is it. Fuck the Rayburns.
The first of the two new Chappelle specials Equanimity, is really good. Up there with his best stand up specials. Haven't seen the second yet.
By rerixo Go To Postis no one watching black mirrorWatched all of them on Friday. 1 & 4 are the best ones so you chose wisely.
only seen eps 1 and 4, liked 4 a lot
By Smokey Go To PostThe Black Mirror seasons aren't connected, are they?No each episode is it’s own thing but they like to throw a few references to other episodes in.
By s y Go To PostThe first of the two new Chappelle specials Equanimity, is really good. Up there with his best stand up specials. Haven't seen the second yet.Definitely think it's one of the best things he's ever done. He hits multiple notes and it all just flowed together so well with his style of storytelling and punchlines.
The Trump stuff was genuine, poignant and told from a real perspective that I hope is not lost on people who will elect to get wrapped up in the trans jokes.
His feelings regarding the criticism of his previous special were presented in a concise, humorous and heartfelt way that is all his own, and honestly, that's more than anyone that was offended deserves. If you take issue with him or his comedy in general then you are exactly the bitch ass nigga that he describes that makes him not want to go to work. You're also looking for a fight that doesn't exist at the expensive of being a complete hypocrite thinking you're somehow exempt from being the butt of a joke. I don't know how he could have addressed the topic any better. That was really one of the early highlights.
The second show is much more intimate (filmed at The Comedy Store in LA), shorter and doesn't have nearly the amount of built up or worked on material. I believe it was taped the night after CBS sacked Charlie Rose, so it's pretty recent too.
man by the end of The Bird Revelation I was just stuck in my chair in awe.
people can get their panties in a bunch about the trans jokes if they want to. they cant see the forest for the trees. Dave dropping nothing but jewels about LIFE in these specials. especially TBR. brittle ass spirits aint ready for this one.

Dave should really consider the possibility that he's just as sensitive as the people he's making fun of because he doesn't appear to be very good at taking criticism. When you get on stage and start talking about you wanna take your ball and go home because people have some issues with your jokes, you come off like the bitch ass nigga you're accusing everyone else of being. Maybe consider the possibility you're not 100% right about everything, learn why the jokes may or may not work, and refine your act accordingly instead of threatening to quit comedy. You're selling out every single club and theatre you go to all over the country but you still feel like you can't do what you want? Snowflake.
Dave also seems to want to use his blackness as a shield from criticism by dismissing the idea that he should give a fuck about anybody else's feelings when he's part of a historically oppressed group himself, as if black people have a monopoly on suffering. It's an obvious point that America is bad about giving a fuck about non-white men. Maybe it would be a better idea to find a common thread on which to build an alliance with trans people through your comedy. But even after it's articulated why the jokes don't work, and knowing there are counter examples of trans jokes that do work, he and others will double down on the offense instead of taking a step back and rethinking the approach.
You're talking out of both sides of your mouth when you say you don't have a problem with trans people and then you keep making dehumanizing jokes even after it's been explained why they're dehumanizing. He seems to be missing the point that it's not that they can't take a joke and don't have a sense of humor about themselves, it's that they're still trying to be recognized as more than genital mutilators and men in dresses, but the jokes always seem to come back to that, which reinforces the negative ideas at a time when they're just beginning to make real progress. And it's amazing that he can't see this when he already quit show business once partially because he felt that audiences were laughing for the wrong reasons. Apply the same logic now as you did back then and acknowledge that we're not quite ready as people to laugh completely without malice.

By Elchele Go To PostBeen watching FMA Brotherhood this weekend. Really good stuff, much better than the 2003 one. It's available on the Latin American version.Really? I found at least the first half the 2003 FMA to be far better. I think the studio themselves even said they rushed through the first half or so because it had already been done better in the 2003 anime.
The first episode and the Nina episodes were especially better in the 2003 anime.
I think 2003 show has Brotherhood beat in art direction and animation too, not to say Brotherhood wasnt a good looking show.
Overall, Brotherhood is probably the better show because they had more manga to work with while 2003 had to do its own thing. I do think the characters were better developed in 2003 though.
Yes, that could be true. They rushed past the unimportant parts of the beginning. Guess that having watched the original anime, I didn't feel the "loss" there because I didn't want to rewatch much of it. But after episode 15 or so, Brotherhood feels much much better to me.

I disagree with that. Any comedian should talk shit about any subject they feel like, if the results are funny at least. It's a comedy show c'mon.

Netflix has ordered a sequel for Bright. It was rumoured to have been seen by 11M users on the first 3 days in the USA so they must be happy with that.
I haven't seen it yet but the concept behind it is good and, with Landis out, it could be a decent sequel if they get a better writer.

It's not so much that there isn't a subject that he can't touch. It's that for someone as "conscious" as Dave is, he can't help but punch down on the people he claims that he is allies with. The first special is the guiltiest of this -funny as it may be-. It came across as a stream of consciousness an old head has at a barbershop: vocally meandering through his thoughts to the young guy waiting his turn to get a shape-up. It's a work in progress, that frankly...wasn't that funny.
Instead of actually listening to criticism and crafting better material, he reaches for the same low hanging fruit, using the same tired joke, while complaining that everybody else is the problem and not him. He's playing dual roles (socially savey comedian and crass-no fuck's given comedian) and is only truly great at one aspect: as evidence by the fact that funniest material had little to do with the social climate.

By masud Go To PostFirst ep of Black Mirror was great. Classic Black Mirror shit.the first was good, the second.. meh.
I'm not super bent out of shape about it. On principle, I don't disagree with Dave. Comedians should be able to provoke and prod and make people uncomfortable. I just don't agree with his view that "trans people are inherently funny". Like, having "yuck" as a punchline to a joke is not good comedy, full stop.
The amount of outrage over this is pretty nonsensical though. If a comedian telling bad jokes is occupying your outrage bandwidth and not the million other more outrage worthy things that are happening in the news cycle I'm side eyeing you for sure.

The "punching down" argument is nonsense. Don't think it holds up the slightest amount of criticism and just promotes an oppression olympics type of thinking that I think was more problematic in the routine than the actual trans jokes.
Have enjoyed the new season of Black Mirror. Arkangel was my least favorite from the ones I've watched so far because it seemed like they didn't flesh out the idea at all. The just wrote down ipad parenting and called it a day.

I can say his trans material is meaner than what he typically offers, but in spirit, the "if you typed Draymond Green into Airbnb that shit will log off automatically" joke isn't that much better than the trans jokes. It's just that one's funny and the other isn't.
By Kidjr Go To PostI wanted to see bright till n8 indirectly highlighted its quite racistIt has a hamfisted analogy of modern day racism using orcs and elves but I don't see how the film is racist.
As far as the Chappelle stuff, comedy isn't meant to be "right", a lot of the time the funniest thing isn't "right." If you were offended, felt the trans jokes were cruel, uncalled for, whatever, fair enough, everybody has a different place where they draw the line. But this whole "he should listen to our critiques and adjust his material accordingly" is some entitled ass, dare-I-say-it millennial bullshit. The man should do exactly the material he wants, otherwise what's the point of even doing it? To give people some filtered, watered down guest-on-Jimmy Fallon shit that won't upset anybody? If you're watching these specials and REALLY thinking he's hateful or unnaccepting towards trans people you've got serious "YOU SAID SOMETHING OFFENSIVE" blinders on.
Nobody seemingly felt offended when he made fun of black people the most during the Chapelle Show era.
End of the Fucking World was fun. Could have worked as a movie but easy binge watch with six 20 minute episodes
By reilo Go To PostNobody seemingly felt offended when he made fun of black people the most during the Chapelle Show era.I don't know where I fall in regards to Dave's TS jokes as those have easily been the weaker bits of his new slew of specials but I also feel like comedy should be "allowed" to make fun of anything/person/etc.
With your quote, don't you think it's different when a black person makes fun of black people as opposed to someone else? I know I would have received a lot of Dave's jokes about black people differently if he wasn't a black man( I'm not a fan of Louis CK's nigger jokes)
I'm guessing the Trans community would also feel differently if the jokes were coming from a tans comedian.
By Laboured Go To PostAnyone watched Devilman Crybaby?http://www.slaent.com/thread/554772/page/18/
Dave had a million and one jokes for every race, gender, situation, and sex, in his show and his prior stand-up routines and movies, and not once has he come across as mean spirited. Yet, when it comes to the trans community, in all of his comedic genius, he only has, "y'all cut ya dicks off, y'all crazy." It's weak, and it's wild to me that fans are throwing on the cape for the worst material in his repertoire.
Originally, from what I read, it was less of, "you can't joke on us," and more of, "please clown us like you joke about everyone else." He doesn't just use one stereotype over and over to the point of fatigue, and yet, it feels like he hasn't figured out what to do and has resorted to taking the easy way out. It's lazy and I expect more from him.
Honestly, trans jokes to the side, it's gotten real annoying when people ignore the fuck out of the fact that there are black trans people to prove whatever point it is they are making.

So that's why his trans jokes were just met with dead silence in the specials, not a single person laughed because "THOSE KIND OF JOKES ARE JUST NOT FUNNY FULL STOP." That's what comedians do, they go onstage and act like assholes and say things they shouldn't and make people laugh (which people were doing btw, I mean if the image of Caitlyn Jenner posing nude Hustler style doesn't make you laugh...). Quit acting like you where you draw the line is the be all end all for acceptable taste, y'all sound like a bunch of 90's soccers moms.
