also not sure why i decided to try and watch the chestnut man. terrible. truly some of the worst writing i've seen in a series in a long time.
special was pretty good. Probably his most middling special though. It's highs aren't nearly as high as his last, same for the low points.
you just can't say these things anymore these days**!!!! so brave!!!

I can't believe a black person unironically used this excuse.
He later tries to qualify this material by telling a story about Daphne Dorman, a white transgender woman who loved his trans jokes and whom Chappelle befriended before she took her own life in October 2019, shortly after he'd given her a shoutout in his Netflix special Sticks & Stones.
He called people cowards for COVID restrictions, basically. Dave should call it quits and stick to being old and rich.
Not outraged at all, I love him more than any comedian in history, he has made me cry of laughter many times.
Wow, so he actually double, triple, and quadrupled down on being an idiot yelling at the clouds?
I've hated how's he's trended, since he's gotten older. How sad.

More than anything else, it's just fucking boring.
It feels like it's more so a lecture masquerading as a comedy special responding to twitter accusations of transphobia.
Like, some of it is quite powerful (8:46) but it's just not what I'm interested in.

Nah.
Not seen it yet, I really enjoyed hiss other specials - but I really wish he dropped this battle with the blue checkmarks arc.
its fucking lame.

Felt like most of the special was him writing around that. Like yes Dave, you are a comedy genius and you can make me laugh about anything, but did I just spend an hour or so hearing you go on and on about gays, transgenders, terfs what have you?
Got me chuckling and laughing even, but I don’t know it just feels out of place. Doesn’t really feel like a stretch to say Dave Chappelle shouldn’t be the guy building a comedy special around LGBTQ matters. Sometimes being funny doesn’t make it ok, even though that’s kind of the rule, but hey.
I'll be glad if this means the end of his jokes/rants against transgenders.
It did feel like a Twitter rant made into a comedy special.

unfunny point that isn’t transphobic > unfunny point that is transphobic, at least

Is he implying that trans people are punching down on black people there at the end?
Aren't black trans overwhelmingly the highest victims of violence out of anyone in the LGTB group?

Not what inky asked though. Isn’t he implying trans people are punching down on black people, rather than black trans people punching down

yep, started off slow but second half was great
I think Chappelle is a skilled enough comedian that continually performing material about trans people is extremely disappointing.
I’ll repeat what I just said in the whatsapp group:
You can make jokes about trans issues. I think chappelle isnt best placed to do so, nor are his jokes funny. And the whole ‘does this offend you, i’m such a provocateur’ act is deathly dull for someone as intelligent and talented as he is. Its low hanging fruit, and i dont see how it’s particularly different than a white comedian telling racist jokes. It wouldnt fly, and it shouldnt fly.
There’s a trans kid in one of my classes who has twice tried to kill herself in the last month, partially because of some jokes made at her expense. So i dont think it’s helpful when someone with the profile of chappelle is telling jokes that do nothing but poke fun at their experience

Dave's biggest problem is that his whole schtick falls apart, if you include black trans folks. He hates how little black issues have progressed over the years (as do a lot of black America), and how it seems the lgbt issues have taken priority. Problem is, he's to busy crucifying himself to acknowledge his own faults in his thinking. He has so much money that he molds his own world and doesn't have to interact, because he's always right.
Any black dude carrying water for problematic ass white women is suspect af, and wearing clown shoes. Straight like that.
Wild af that he's doing the white dude equivalent of, "my one black friend", with Daphne.
This special is mid, but some of this shit was funny af tho.
edit: And he's not talking about black people at the end. He's talking specifically about his rich folks / comedians getting caught up for using last decades jokes.

Didn't laugh at everything in the special, and it's easy to pick and choose your favorite outrage material if you want, but I thought as a whole it put Dave in an OK position. Hardest targets were white people's tunnel vision and selective empathy and offered anecdotes which suggest a larger respect towards different human experiences than some of the people screaming at him
The beyond meat joke made me laugh the hardest but I felt hella bad about it. Also the whole fight story, especially the toxic masculinity joke
