By reilo Go To PostThe dude can't dribble. You don't have enough ball handlers between Crabbe CJ and Lillard?
Maybe I am looking at it wrong but I really think it was a bad signing
No, we don't. Crabbe can't dribble, either. He's worse than Hendo lol.
Portland's third playmaker after CJ and Dame is... Plumlee. I'm serious. They had no release valve when teams (and especially good defensive teams with superb athletes) would run a hard trap at the ballhandler at the top of the key. It was fine in seasons prior because Batum was that guy for Portland. But man, have you seen Aminu dribble? Like, if that dude gets the ball and dribbles straight to the hoop from the top of the key, the offense might as well run back cause that shit is gonna clank into the stratosphere and turn into a fastbreak quicker than you can tell Barkley to shut his ass up.
Evan Turner's biggest flaw -- and it's a big flaw in today's NBA -- is his shooting. But Portland is completely set at that, so you gotta fill other gaps like playmaking and wing defense.
BTW, I agree with you on the forward thing. That was my #1 priority as well (getting a good 4), but Pau, Horford, et al flat out went elsewhere for the same money or didn't even pick up the phone.

Crabbe has been working on his handle like Wes did when coming to Portland... he won't be James Harden anytime soon but I would rather take my chances he pans out there rather than plugging a hole with a guy who can't shoot and isn't that great of a playmaker...
if he turns out as good as he was on Boston I will admit I was wrong with the quickness
if he turns out as good as he was on Boston I will admit I was wrong with the quickness
But they still got Crabbe. Olshey's philosophy is to amass as much talent as you can and let the cream rise to the top. He'll move one of them with that same quickness if they're not panning out.
Portland also got lucky with Meyers getting hurt because they got him on the cheap, as well ($20mil+ less than Mozgov got from LAL).

I didn't catch all of it but too many people are too high on oladipo.
Though yeah, the Magic seem like they didn't get the trade after that one done. There should have been another piece trading hands there somewhere. Maybe it was getting Monroe?

We are pretty mixed on Vic. I think he is a better asset than Ibaka. But when it is all said and done you traded Harden for him basically and him and Westbrook seem to be a horrilbe pairing considering he is basically a homeless version of Westbrook. But I will say a fastbreak with them two pushing should be awesome to watch.

Unless we're considering Waiters part of their core.

The Turner signing was definitely a 'bad' contract but I still haven't heard any realistic argument for an alternative offseason from Olshey. Nate Duncan himself was stumped by the question.

The amount of money now is almost a curse in some respects. "I got all this spending money what do."
By giririsss Go To PostSometimes the best move to make is to not make one.Money like that is use it or lose it. Sitting on it isn't an advantage.
By reilo Go To PostMoney like that is use it or lose it. Sitting on it isn't an advantage.Do you think this is what Knick fans are telling themselves about that Noah contract? Or Laker fans about Mozgov?
By reilo Go To PostMoney like that is use it or lose it. Sitting on it isn't an advantage.a 2 year contract would have been better
IMO they would have been better giving Joe Johnson that 2 year and seeing what they could get next year.
By diehard Go To PostIMO they would have been better giving Joe Johnson that 2 year and seeing what they could get next year.I would not disagree there... but if they signed Turner to a 2 year with maybe a T.O for a 3rd at about the same value I wouldn't have shit on it as much
By Tea Go To PostKnowing Blazers luck whomever they spend buckoo bucks on is getting knee problems anyway. That curse has transferred to the Pels.

Granted, and we'd still have cap space and two star guards next season to tank with, but I imagine Olshey was betting on a lockout and less cap space in 2017. And yea, free money basically.

I can't believe you guys did a whole worst top pick segment and didn't say the words "Andrea Bargnani" even once. This is like having a "biggest 20th century wars" discussion and everybody forgets to mention WWII. Or WWI. He's like both at the same time. Hasheem Thabeet is like the Boba Fett to his bad draft pick Darth Vader, he's outright ruined multiple whole franchises.

Thabeet didn't even deserve to go in the first round

But that was why Bargs was so Dark Side...he put up 20 point games on the surface because Colangelo made sure he was force-fed to justify the pick. But below the surface he was almost always a net negative on the court. Always a step slow, always out of position, standing out on the court for 32 minutes and coming away with 1 rebound, 0 rebound games at 7'1.
And it wasn't just the defence. Like, this was a PF/C with a .439 career FG%. Take a moment to try and mentally process how that's even possible, how much brick laying that took.
Toronto, NY, Brooklyn...the guy was pure poison, fooling GMs for a straight decade & tying cement blocks to their teams' feet while they sank in the standings. Colangelo signed him to huge deals. NY lost their pick in this draft because people kept thinking he had hidden potential. Like, Shaqtin' a Fool had an entire Andrea Bargnani special. Hasheem at least had the decency to flame out at record speed and let everybody move on with their lives. I legit wish Colangelo had drafted him instead.
I mean okay, in that alternate timeline Colangelo would have played him 36 minutes a night for 6 years trying to make it work, but he would have had way fewer passionate RealGM defenders.
But anyway...just finished all of September while banging out some Destiny quests. This month was definitely a lot stronger than the first one, you guys are definitely in your groove now. And aside from some weird echoes the audio was really clean. Looking forward to episode 7.
Thanks for the feedback... we are still working out the kinks in the sound... But I love the banter. Oct's batch is going to be fun.
I think the big thing is Bargs had NBA talent but didn't give a damn...
Sometimes guys like that can click and start hooping... so talentwise and even smoking mirrors-wise I don't think he is one of the worst picks out there.

Not caring was definitely part of it, he was an Italian soccer kid who fell into basketball because of his height, and got drafted first because Colangelo is very attached to his ancestral homeland and let that cloud his judgement.
But it was also just that the guy was soft, and that his reaction time was never up to NBA speed. Watching him reminds me so much of when I play Street Fighter in a Japanese arcade...these guys are the best in the world, and they're always a quarter second ahead of me.
Defense is mostly desire if you have the tools... I felt like Bargs had lots of natural tools... KP is basically Bargs who loves and understands basketball.
What was just enough effort all his life in the NBA was way too slow in the NBA...

Getting blood tested, should be good to go in a couple hours.
Also, how have we not discussed Darko as the ultimate bust? It hurts worse because he was a Top 5 pick in the 2003 draft class.
I assume you guys read this article? http://polygraph.cool/redraft/ It looks at how to determine the biggest busts and steals.
