Is it selfish to ask for a Kyrgios-Federer matchup for Friday night (Round 3)? Reckon it could be a good match.

First time watching in the third round. Was hoping for some competitive matches this 'deep'. Got three breadsticks, a bagel and one semi-interesting set. Only things of note: Sharapova's grunts aren't as loud as I expected them to be in person. Nadal didn't seem as injured as I thought he'd be, either.

By chandlerparsonsGot that post wrong on so many levels. ^^; Poor Fed.
No reason to feel sorry for the GOAT. He's the friggin GOAT. Everyone else needs to get on his level. It's astounding that he can still play at such a high level.
Speaking of astounding, the WS are stupendous. It's a moral victory any time Venus gets farther than the first round given her disease. I cannot believe that even Venus is this deep.
My kids were watching them before they went to bed. Saw the note my wife left them with their breakfast when they get up in the morning indicating their scores. The WS are still impacting the next generation of (black) American tennis players.

When Venus Williams won her first major, Madison Keys was 3. Obviously, Keys grew up watching the WS and considers them inspirations in her career.
They will be playing each other in the next round.
They will be playing each other in the next round.
Homegirl last match might have awakened the beast.
Also, Serena might have struggled against Venus, but she’s not going to play sloppy like Venus did. Keys will be like “I’m just glad to be here.”
Meanwhile, Sharapova might want to lose gracefully in the next round to save herself and the WTA the embarrassment of another Serena Smackdown.

By diprosalici can't watch WTA, the level of play is so bad.
The level of play is so bad...compared to men?
Is there a sport where this is not true? US women's soccer, perhaps? US Women's Track & Field?
Anyway, I watch WTA for the WS, who also happen to represent US tennis. Speaking of which, Madison Keys took Serena to a tiebreak in the first set, but she was just too good in the second.
Serena's greatest opponent is herself. Meanwhile, it would be tragic of Keys did not win a few majors. Her serve is one of the best and her ball placement was impressive. Bright future ahead for her. Sloane needs more mental toughness/focus. She reminds me of a female Monfils. Naturally talented, but could give a care.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, we have Isner who is the stereotypical power dude. zzz

Is there a sport where this is not true?
dunno, maybe not but that doesn't make it better.
if i want to watch unforced errors, double faults, cheaters and breaks en masse, i would go play myself.
i wouldn't watch college sports either.
speaking of terrible play...
tough loss for Wawa, oh well.
By Zero ToleranceI just want him to win one more before he retires. That's all.By chandlerparsonsGot that post wrong on so many levels. ^^; Poor Fed.No reason to feel sorry for the GOAT. By Zero ToleranceI think people who talk along those lines forget (or don't care) that as spectator sports, these events mean something more than technical skill. More than any other sport I follow, tennis is the one where a player's mental strength is exposed for all to see. There is something commendable about having the fortitude to perform in front of thousands of booing and cheering fans, and millions more watching around the world.By diprosalici can't watch WTA, the level of play is so bad.

As a casual fan of tennis, I don't care about how fast you serve, or what your average groundstroke speed is. The narrative and the context of a match is determined by factors outside of technical skill. A player coming back from injury. Coming back from match point/set(s) down. A wildcard taking on a seed. A local player making a run in a tournament. These things don't really rely on sex, and it's why men's and women's champions get paid the same, and why people go to slams instead of watching some no-names at a Futures tournament.
Ask an Australian tennis fan if they would have rather watched Nadal (No. 1 at the time) or Molik (Australian Wild Card) in the first round of the 2011 Australian Open, and I'm sure most would choose the latter.

that's hard to believe. nobody here gives a shit about Bencic and she's no.34.
Nadal would sell out at any day.
By diprosalicWell of course you'd say that. Molik had been a top 10 player, made it as far as the quarters in her home slam, Australian, and in her final year as a player. She was down match points before prevailing 8-6 in the final set. Conversely, Nadal played against Marcos Daniel of Brazil and won 6-0 5-0 (retirement).
I think...diprosalic
But...he's talking about Bencic who is playing right now...
Anyway, Serena = GOAT. Grass is green, sky is blue, etc.

Stosur has a major. Nadal majors.
Bencic = 0. Seems to fit your description, yet does not qualify.
Grats to Joker. Such a more fun player than Nadal or Federer.
By Zero ToleranceAnd Molik had no majors, and yet people went to see her, and that match stuck out more in my mind than a Nadal match that very same day. Bencic was the highest ranked player from his country. Stosur is the highest ranked player from mine. Where did I allude to anything about their slams? What are you trying to get at, exactly? The original comment I responded to said that Women's tennis was unwatchable. I've provided multiple examples to say that it is, and in some cases, more of a draw than a men's match.By chandlerparsonsBy Zero ToleranceI think…diprosalicWhat does Bencic have to do with the scenario I outlined in my post? Not current? Doesn't count. She won a major. Doesn't count. Well what does? Organisers of the Australian Open, and our national broadcaster were willing to show Ajla Tomljanovic and Jarmila Gajdosova on Rod Laver Arena. What bogus excuse are you going to come up with now to dismiss that?
Murray had his chances throughout that match. Didn't have the mental fortitude to take them.
i don't even know what we are arguing about anymore.
i just don't like women's tennis same as most of you don't care for the WNBA.

By diprosalici don't even know what we are arguing about anymore.I don't know either. I wasn't even talking to him. I understand that yours is a personal preference, but I felt the need to say what I said precisely because of something related to what you just mentioned. Tennis is exceptional to me because it is the only major sport I can think of where the women's game is even remotely in the same ballpark as the men's. Here's a list I hastily found of the sports Australians are most interested in:
i just don't like women's tennis same as most of you don't care for the WNBA.

1 AFL
2 Cricket
3 Football
4 NRL
5 Golf
6 Rugby
7 Soccer
8 Tennis
9 Basketball
10 Rugby League
I don't think there's one there besides tennis where regular people even pay attention to the female equivalent. Maybe golf? (I'd have no idea since I don't follow either sexes). When you say it's unwatchable, I get it, it's a personal preference. But when the Australian Open Women's final can pull in the same amount of viewers (in Australia) as the Socceroos in the Asian Cup final, and Li Na can get 330 million people around the world watching her win her first French, I don't think it's unwatchable for the rest of us.
