Marvel's Ant-Man Trailer

And then this trailer comes out and, whoa, why is a comic book movie about a guy that shrinks and rides an ant so god damn grave? Then there's one joke at the end and it falls totally flat. Oof.
Terribly cut trailer/preview/whatever.
Hank Pym on the other hand would have been much more interesting. Tormented mad genius, creator of Pym particles allowing his power as well as the man that created the titular sentient AI that is the main antagonist of the next Avengers.
I'm interested to see how Michael Douglas is used.
The response to this movie has been very similar to how Guardians of the Galaxy was received when it was first shown, so let's see what Marvel has up their sleeve for this one.
By blackaceAnt-Man is a shit character to make a movie aboutScott Lang as a character is boring as heck.

Pym is ok... but of all his alter-egos Ant-Man is hands down the lamest one.
Marvel sold all their franchises so they are very limited in who they can use, and it's sad. X-Men and Spider-Man are like their two biggest franchises... Basically all they have to work around is the Avengers.
I love that they are making movies like comics, and would love to see what they could do with their main franchises...

As much as I hated the whole 'bring it back to marvel' thing and compared it to port begging.
I do agree with this, I'd love to see what they could do with their signature famous titles.

By h3roScott Lang as a character is boring as heck.
Eric O'Grady was the fun Ant-Man. But, I'm guessing the script writers know family drama does well and Lang's character has it in a way that the other two don't. No way Disney wants to dredge up Pym the wife-beater in the current social media climate.

With GotG I knew it had the potential to be a hit - the Abnett & Lanning comics had a really fun tone & story, and it seemed obvious to me (but mysteriously, somehow not 75% of the internet) that Rocket Racoon would be a great character on screen. I thought Cosmo the talking Russian space dog would get more screen time too, but he only showed up a bit. Maybe for the sequel.
But with this...I'm not seeing it. It might be another Hulk-like dud for them There was no energy in that trailer, and the lead had no charisma. They've more than earned the benefit of the doubt, but if they pull this one off it'll be a bit more surprising to me. Could turn out to be a good caper flick if they go that route, I guess.

I lived most of my life not even knowing who Ant-Man was. I even had this huge poster from a Wizard mag done by Alex Ross from back in the day where he's prominently featured, but he looked so cheesy, I figured he was some character from the 50's that I shouldn't be concerned about. They stuck him in the modern Avengers cartoon(s), and he was still cheesy.
Only time I liked him was in a short comic series where they showed the domestic violence between him and Wasp. He actually had some depth to his character then. But there he was all about being a loser than a hero.
What a terrible character to make a movie about.

The more I think about it the more I am pretty sure that this film is the true test of the Marvel brand. Ant-Man sounds corny. Both Pym and Lang are pretty boring in comics, and besides beating his wife (pym) and going to jail (both Ant-Men). Pym's (who is a step away from being a hippie) guilt over making Ultron was arguably the best character trait he had. Which is now going to be quasi retconned.
The only caveat to all of this is Disney made "Honey, I shrunk the kids" which means they know how to make a great film about being shrunk. If they throw some easter eggs in reference to that movie I will give this film much props.

By blackaceThey were only shitty because no one ever had a reason to care about them because Marvel, like DC only acknowledged their popular names.By J10thousands of shitty characters yeahBy blackaceThey're not very limited in who they can use. Two years ago if you mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy people would look at you like you were retarded, now they're known and people care about them. Agents of Shield has been getting interested in Inhumans, and even three months ago no one gave a shit about Inhumans.
While it sucks they don't have their big names, in a way it works out better because now they have to use these other properties. You think if they had X-Men and Spiderman we would be getting a two-part Thanos movie, and an entire universe built around him? You think we would be getting a Black Panther or Captain Marvel movie? Someone would have been fired for even thinking about suggesting it at Marvel if they still had X-Men and Spiderman.

I can hardly remember anything from that movie, but am fond of it. I'll have to show it to my kids. Great idea!
The Ant-Man movie exists because of Avengers.
I do look forward to the Black Panther movie.
Always remember that Blade proved that comic movies could work, even if the source material was awfully written.

GoG had a good run in print
a lot of minor groups or characters haven't...
and if they Spider-man or the X-men we could get a proper Civil war
or a Mr. Sinister or Apocalypse story line
Thanos was a huge plot even in their popular title and I don't want a Captain Marvel movie
