Military coup ongoing in Turkey

just as the government was coming to terms with Russia and Israel. Hopefully an actual secular coup and not one lead by that extremist Gulen.

Wait there's something worse than Erdogan possibly coming?
open a book or a wikipedia page about military coups in turkey mate.
if it's Gulen-led, the answer would be yes. Usually these coups are for the benefit of secularism of the Republic, there to return power to the people and are codified.
So I'm reading that in the Turkey constitution, it is within the military's right to stage a coup if deemed necessary?

absolutely. It's happened a number of times before. They deem themselves as safeguarding Turkey's secular mandate and constitution. It's surprising that it's actually happening. Uncle Erdogan dismantled the military years ago and replaced generals etc with his own cronies to ensure this sort of thing couldn't happen
Guerilla warfare going on in this stream.

Looks like people marching on the bridge got shot down at the front of the march, but it's hard to tell.
All I had been hearing is that Turkey was going to be the next crisis area, so sadly, most of the world was waiting on something like this.

looking more and more like a massive setup for erdogan the saviour to sweep in and rewrite the constitution. AKP party would have been involved in mass arrests in any other coup.
The gunfire on the bridge just then was crazy

I tune in and there's immediate gun fire and everyone lying flat on the ground.
I've been watching that feed for an hour and it just looped a shot of a tank going across the bridge. I'm not sure its live anymore.

The coup is seemingly failing. What a waste.
Things are only going to get a trillion times more worse now.

I am worried things will get worse. People are right that change must be democratic, but will that happen if Erdogan continues towards a more absolute sort of power? You just diffused the balance of power a constitutional coup represents.
Extremely suspect that they didn't even attempt to arrest any akp members, plus random acts of dumb involving random gunship fire and low flying f16s, plus that bullshit of holding bridges like this was a ground war in need of cutting supply lines.
Expecting erdogan to come out and claim that constitutional powers should come under the umbrella of the presidential office whilst rooting out more of his enemies in the military and government. He'll eventually declare the position of president for life.

It's (basically) over.
We have ourselves a winner.

Possibly bringing back the death penalty for coup leaders.
Just found out the entire 1st division wasn't involved. This wasn't a constitutional coup.

This has fake coup written all over it:
