1280x720. It's flexible. I think I lock it down to that minimum, but you can upload any width or height larger than that, e.g. 1280x1920 if you wish. It'll just crop it down to 1280x720 anyhow.
Display differences between my MacBook Pro 2011 screen and the screen on my 1080p 23in Asus monitor.
Is there a reason why when I go between the main page and a thread page on macOS, Safari latest, the banner for the site formats differently. Is it on purpose?
Not a big deal but just wondering.
Main page on my MacBook Pro, the banner is both the same. But on my monitor, the main page is formatted where the home button is aligned to the left and the rest of the stuff aligned right, but in a thread the main page button is no longer aligned all the way the left and is now centered.

Also out of habit, when linking media will the editor get enter/return support instead of using your mouse to confirm?

I set it up that way because the homepage is kind of unique. The layout fills the entire width so centering the nav like on the rest of the site (where the thread is centered for readability) looked to asymmetrical.
By Jay Whatever Go To PostAre you finding that all the embedding that now goes on is slowing down page loading too much? Not in my opinion as a user. Is it something that is annoying you?
I filed an editor bug on GitHub for something that's been mildly annoying to me for a while.
Thanks! I'll get back on doing dev this weekend. I'll also roll out the ability to hide specific embeds.
It's an annoyance sometimes. I scroll to the bottom, but the page position keeps changing as more and more stuff appears.
Yo not sure if this has been addressed but why can't we use .PNG images for our avatars? Need that feature.
Because at the time I implemented the image resized it ran on the same process as the main server and it would hold up the page from rendering until the image was done rendering. I can re-enable it since it won't hold up the page from rendering anymore. FYI, the images her saved down to JPGs regardless.
Potentially. Font adjustments are quite tricky to get right and make building out the UI several degrees tougher. There could be a compromise where I let people adjust the font size of posts/threads but keep the rest of the UI static.
The New York Times does something similar for their articles, if you wanted to take a look at someone that does something similar: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/18/world/middleeast/mosul-iraq-isis-kurds.html Click on the gear in the top-right corner.
e: I like how they keep it as something that you can change while on the page of the article itself as opposed to save to your profile, that way you can change it based off what device you are reading on.

I'd imagine it would be preferable to have a localStorage implementation of such a feature. One of the few instances where per-device makes most sense.
If someone posts something like a really extended lol, when viewing on mobile it stretches off the screen rather than going down a line. Must be because it counts as 1 word. It isn't a problem since you know what the poster is saying but it doesn't look good.
While viewing on mobile, if there's left-aligned image with a block of text next to it, will the formatting stick or will the text get pushed beneath it? That's one instance where I'd want some font size options for posting, to make sure text stays in place and fills a certain area.

I'll have to check. Mobile kinda has "standard" formatting where everything essentially stacks, so don't worry about it too much.
Where did the ads go? I don't have any ad blocker enabled for Slaent but the ads that used to be on the bottom of the page don't appear anymore and haven't for some time.

That they won't tell you about when they black list you. Even on appeal you don't know why you're appealing.
We've been looking for a replacement provider but struggle due to the traffic requirements of many of the other ad providers.

That one is really bizarre. The JavaScript clearly loaded otherwise it wouldn't show the rest of the editor. Are you by any chance using any third party plugin that spellchecks or does something with textareas? Does it only happen after you attempt to quote a post?
The twitter one is unfortunately on Twitter :-/ All of the embeds are set to only load when they are in your visible viewport but Twitter's embeds load far slower than any other. So by the time you scroll past it finally decides to load five seconds later. I can look into some work arounds.

No quoting another use is like the thing that fixes it. I use chrome, but told it not to translate anything here... and I tried disabling the third part skin as well. Also have adblock disabled for the site.
The twitter thing. It's not that it just loads when I go down, making the screen scroll a little, it's that weird scaling thing or whatever it is, I posted about before. The whole page will keep shaking, as soon as I maximize my window to something above 3/4 of a 1400p screen. It makes the pages unreadable, and I find myself visiting way less because of it.
Could it be possible to have an option to disable twitter? It fucks everything up so badly when there is photos in the tweets.

I use Chrome exclusively across all my devices and haven't come across the text area not loading. I might have a hint why but I haven't seen it. What version?
It's only above 1440p?? Huh! Okay I can check into that. Bizarre.
And yea I'm gonna introduce the ability to disable embeds on a site by site basis.

Oh snap, I just had the no textarea thing happen to me. Trying to investigate and grab as many notes as possible, but unfortunately no clear answer right now.
The textearea is there, but its height is 0px, which implies that it's an issue with the autoresizing math/function and it's not setting the correct initial height.

Yeah someone else in the football thread had it too, for quite some time apparently.

Nah it's a bit above 1080p for me. But I can resize my 1440p window down and it stops. Really weird and annoying.

My gut feeling is that it has something to do with one of the embeds, possibly Twitter. There hasn't been any new code changes in a few weeks so it has to be a third party integration most likely via the embeds.
I had the same problem as KidA and wooden yesterday. To post, i had to click on submit with the chatbox empty, it would show me an error that you can't post without typing something but then i could do it.
I've been getting that same thing. I'm also getting a weird issue on Safari where the red navigation banner at the top doesn't appear:
There's a huge internet outage right now for many so what you might be experiencing is part of that, LFK. If it persists once the internet is back up (I'm not even being facetious, it's that bad http://slaent.com/thread/895795/), then let me know.

Ok, I just got it for the first time ever. I inspected the element and something is manually forcing the height of the textarea to be 0px. I don't know how to put html code in here without it getting eaten by the editor, so here is a pastebin link to the element: http://pastebin.com/DTT8a9vH
I am using Opera 40.0.2308.90 and my browser width is 960px (1920 resolution, but window is sized to be half-width of screen).
It does have a function on resize set to modify it that is coming from the embed.js script. Dev tools is linking me to this anonymized function:
There are also several other event listeners it has. I will leave my tab open if you want me to look any of them up.

Oh wow Kibner that's an awesome find. So it is the Embed stuff. I'll shoot them an email and let them know of the issue. I'm gonna guess they released a new update recently that caused it. I'll disable lazy load for now.
EDIT: thinking about it, I reinitialize the Embed stuff for the preview pane because otherwise you can't preview embeds. I'm gonna guess something about that is causing the height 0px issue on the virtual dom re-render.

Okay, I disabled lazy loading. Hopefully that'll fix the issue for now. I also shot a note to our embed provider to get any technical details on their lazy loading functionality to hopefully resolve this issue.
Thanks again Kibner, that helped a lot!

It makes sense and I had an inkling it was because of it since it affirmed the eye test and the little bit of digging I did. There hasn't been any new code released on my end recently, and it would happen sporadically only on pages with embeds on the page as the lazyloading was being initialized.

By reilo Go To PostTwitter embeds on here are broken right now because of this outage, FYI.
Sharp pointed out we weren't using an async embed for Typekit, so I switched us over to that. Page rendering should be a lot faster and non-blocking now. You might see Helvetica or another fallback font intermittently, but that's preferable to improve page load speed.
Talking to iFramely support right now. Turning lazyload off didn't fix it. I just experienced it again.

It was fine in Chrome, so it wasn't that. It seems to work alright now; I'm wondering if my MacBook is just getting old as it enters year 5, small random stuff happens from time to time.
