Actually all that makes sense. There's a bit of code logic to make sure that if the text area auto sizes that it keeps wherever your cursor is visible to the page. I'll mess with that and fix it, but I think I know exactly what part. Seems like FF doesn't handle it as well.
Forever, shun, can you double check the editor now? I believe I fixed all the plaguing issues.
Also, added back the home vs menu split.
Also, added back the home vs menu split.
Seems better. A lingering issue: When I right click the cursor automatically goes back to the very beginning and anything I had selected gets deselected. If I right click and paste, the pasted text goes to the top because that's where the cursor ends up. If I use a keyboard shortcut that works fine.
By reilo Go To PostAlright party peeps, let me know if this new homepage works for y'all. If not, I can dig deep again and re-tweak.
Looks good. Feels good.
I like the homepage a lot more now, and also thanks for bringing back the one click to homepage in the header. King Reilo.

New home page is nice. Would appreciate a divider on mobile between featured threads and the rest.
I've noticed that sometimes the menu bar gets detached from the top of the screen with chrome on iOS

Any chance we could get the video embedder to work with direct mp4 links? https://my.mixtape.moe/ahxkyo.mp4 for example

Dude you're killing me. You gotta upgrade that shit lmao. Chrome is on v52 now. Can you please try doing that first?
Working now.
Seriously, I just downloaded it yesterday as I got a different phone.

Ideally? Yes. It'd be kinda not difficult to implement it. But there's a caveat in that we would need a Flash Player fallback to make the video work on any browser that doesn't support MP4s -- which means Firefox unless you install a third party plugin to support it.
The real ideal here is to support the other formats such as webm as well. You can read more on it here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats

I think the latest UI update pretty much kills any thread that is not one of the last 6. I know I wouldn't even bother digging up the pokemon thread, or I would just forget about it.
Can you expand on that? Before it was a list segregated by forum to 4 threads at a time and people seemingly preferred a flat list that was in order by most recently posted in. I'm gonna be adding some nifty options to help dig through some of the recent threads list so hopefully that'll alleviate some of it.
Ideally, I also need to design something that leads people into individual forums and I think the homepage lacks that aspect. Each forum once the user gets there should feel inviting as well. The homepage should act as a gateway as well as a primary way of figuring out what is happening right now.

Subscriptions are a good way to keep up with threads that are relevant to you but get buried from general inactivity. Right now I just keep a few threads bookmarked in Firefox as a workaround.
Subscriptions is a big ticket item. I'm gonna brain storm the best way to go about it with Sharp. He has huge reservations about implementing it within our current infrastructure because it would make it impossible to effectively cache each user's subscription model. Might be a good candidate for implementing a first run events system starting with subscriptions.
For example, a new post is made in a thread, and it triggers a push notification to some unspecified part in the menu. You get quoted, it goes to the same notification system. Perhaps we even merge Messages into that same common area so if you get a new PM it shows up in the same list but stylistically different, but the advantage would be to piggy back off of the same notifications driven system.

By Gabyskra Go To PostYes. How about making the search bar smaller, and on the same line next to it, have the buttons for each subforum? Saves a click, and makes it visible.Definitely thought about it and heavily leaning towards it, actually. I'd still have the click to expand on mobile though due to limited real estate.
Also, here are my thoughts on thread subscriptions (and by extension Who Quoted Me and event handling) of how I would like the system to be implemented: https://github.com/slaent/issues/issues/39
There's technical concerns to overcome which I'll have to discuss with Sharp.
Unpopular opinion, but truthful:
considering the general philosophy of the layout, the font size, etc... the thread titles are too long. Way too long. They fit minimalistic UIs. It's too crowded, too much for too little purpose.
The advantage of smaller parts for each thread is that you gather more info on the main page. I think there's too much noise, not enough actual info.

Maybe adding a link to each forum after the break (from highlighted threads to normal threads) would be a good idea to make people go and look inside of those forums.
The Last Read button is sometimes cutoff or completely out of view on mobile (on the right side of the screen). Seems like it happens next to longer user names.
Alright. Tweaked the homepage.
Added a section for the site forums so they're more accessible. Added a filter so you can filter on each forum for recent threads. Added a toggle button so user's can disable cover images if they so choose. Also fixed Wooden's shenanigans (usernames will now truncate if they're too long on mobile).

Safari Editor works well reilo. No more issues, site update looks cleaner and better. Wouldn't mind having it stay like this and just add more QOL features like notifications and search engine.
Everything here is already 10x more modern than what I am used to on a message board or BBS.

Can you fill the empty space left by the filters with more recent threads from the remaining forums?

Yep front page looks very nice now, and I love that filtering, very useful. I wouldn't mind the threads on the front page being smaller either, to make room for more. But I find the current one pretty good anyway.
A few none important things, but suggestions anyway:
The top bar not staying consistently on the left or center is annoying. Think it should be moved to the center of the front page, just like it is when entering a thread.
Also I still find the pop up boxes of anything rather annoying, especially because when typing a post, it means you cant do certain things. Like if you have 3 links in your post, and want to check them, you can't copy with the mouse, or select a part and right click "search google for (selection)". Instead you gotta copy it with the keyboard and insert it into your web browser address bar. It's a small thing, but that is the kind of thing that makes me just want hard fixed buttons like other editors.

The subscription model outlined there sounds really great, but I think it's kind of overcomplicating the user need. Or, rather, that there's an MVP way of doing this. The notification system seems cool, but I genuinely think a page just listing subscribed threads would be a good enough start.
Obviously having no idea how the site is architected, I don't know if that's any easier, but it at least alleviates the need to handle bulk events and such.
