Any update on Twitter post embedding? It's clutch.
Also, is it possible to make shortened youtube URLs embed or is that too tricky? usually if you get the share link version it's the shortened URL and at least from what I experienced the other day, it doesn't embed.

Yes to Twitter, that's coming soon. Along with other upgrades.
Shortened YouTube embeds should already work and are supported, e.g. https://youtu.be/dq_CyqeRLww

I looked at the github site but it looks like the project for the forums is either private or I am github dumb.
I would like to work on the enhancement for keyboard shortcuts because I really miss being able to highlight text and pressing ctrl+b to bold it instead of having to manually write the tags or use my mouse to click on the button in the editor.

You need to make an account to post issues. The issues section is open to all.
There's already a ticket for keyboard shortcuts btw.

I meant, I couldn't find the source code project so that I could fork it and try to add the keyboard shortcut functionality to contribute.

I totally understand if you want it to remain private, however.
Oh! You wanted to contribute, which we would most definitively love. Currently the project is in a private repo on bitbucket. Sharp and I want to Open Source it but we got some clean-up to do.

Good to hear. I guess I'll just have to wait till that cleanup is finished. :)
In short, we need to...
The ultimate goal is to allow people to download our forum software from an open source repo and do a clean install without being tied to SL&ENT as a whole.
The tricky part is where the UI branches and how to handle that. I'd probably want to do something like what Django does:
Django Framework: https://github.com/django/django
Djangoproject.com: https://github.com/django/djangoproject.com
Feel free to send me and Sharp a PM if you wanna discuss details and how you'd like to contribute. I would love your thoughts.
- Pull out the client into its own repo because the SL&ENT UI will pretty much be the only thing I consider protected work
- However, we would allow people to submit Pull Requests for the SL&ENT UI which would enable someone like you to make keyboard shortcuts, for example
- Make a basic open source client with minimal styling that implements all of the features
- Open source our image builder and fix the way it currently works so it doesn't utilize caching to determine if a generated image exists and instead works with CloudFront
- Make sure that all of our migrations/database setup works with a clean install and perhaps write an install script
- Potentially make this a PIP package.

By vic Go To PostIt's a minor complain, but how come the themes' settings aren't stored in a local cookie?Because when I solicited feedback whether people wanted the dark theme to be per-account or per-device the overwhelming majority said per-account.
Are there any wild cards or any other search options we can use? I am trying to find a post I wrote months ago showing how free throw attempts and personal fouls have been less common over the last several decades but can't find it.
*proceeds to complain about something*
I'm logged out on two out of three browsers, Firefox and Vivaldi. I'm logged in on Chrome on Mac OS. For some reason I cannot login on Firefox and Vivaldi despite changing my password twice and trying to login on both browsers. I'm not logged out of the account on Chrome despite changing my password twice in 10 minutes. Halp, por favor?

By reilo Go To PostYour username has a space at the end.
This still doesn't work across those two browsers. What could be causing this issue?
By reilo Go To PostThat's the only thing I can think of. I can remove the space if you want.
What space? ####Lane uses autologin so I am unclear of what space you are referring to.
By reilo Go To PostYou have a space at the end of your username. Instead of "Furyous" it's "Furyous ".
This still does not work on Firefox and Vivaldi for some odd reason.
Go edit the space out and try again. I don't know what else to tell you. Also make sure it's with an uppercase F since logins are case sensitive.
When I click the link to the new X1 thread at the bottom of this thread: http://www.slaent.com/thread/570154/page/76/
it opens in a new tab and I appear as not signed in to SLAENT.
Something to do with the lack of www in the URL?

Oh, good catch. Our external linker should account for www. Will be easy to fix. Technically, and literally, www.slaent.com is a different domain than slaent.com, in the same way that somesubdomain.slaent.com is. So when your browser stores login sessions and cookies, it does it on a per-domain basis. There's fixes for that I will look into where we can namespace logins to account for www. as well.
reilo pls give me an option to use the "mobile design" (I know is the same responsive design) in my desktop. PLEASE PLEASE. It's much more easy and comfortable to read the forum that way.
You could just keep a developer console open and tell it which browser size to run in. Mobile skin will get triggered on browsers below 768px wide.
Chinese symbols? I could only think that your browser for some reason is unable to interpret our font icon library because something is blocking it from loading. Is it intermittent or consistent?
By reilo Go To PostYou could just keep a developer console open and tell it which browser size to run in. Mobile skin will get triggered on browsers below 768px wide.yes, I know that. But I'm a human bean who doesn't like the hassle. Please find a way to help me in your heart
Opening the bookmarks sidebar in Firefox pushes the promoted threads up to the top of the front page. Is that by design?
By Elchele Go To Postyes, I know that. But I'm a human bean who doesn't like the hassle. Please find a way to help me in your heartMaybe. Let me think about it. It's a bit of work.
By Jay Whatever Go To PostOpening the bookmarks sidebar in Firefox pushes the promoted threads up to the top of the front page. Is that by design?Yes. It converts to a 2x2 grid because the content gets too cramped side by side on smaller resolutions.
By reilo Go To PostChinese symbols? I could only think that your browser for some reason is unable to interpret our font icon library because something is blocking it from loading. Is it intermittent or consistent?intermittent? damn, do i have to take out a dictionary?
nah it's just when loading the page, yeah it's the font icons and it replaces it with chinese symbols. used to do it once in awhile but now it's consistent. only ever saw it here. (chrome android)
I could potentially do something where the icons are hidden until they're ready to be rendered perhaps. Surprised your browser hasn't cached the font yet.
By reilo Go To PostMaybe. Let me think about it. It's a bit of work.Don't let me down lord reilo
By Dipro Go To Postnot worth the hassle m8, i don't mind some chinese.
maybe it's not even chinese and i'm just racist.
but yeah I've been getting some weird shit with the font lately. Like it takes a time to load it, before that it shows another font.
I always thought a true next gen feature would be an option to have gifs as avys that only played when you hover over it. With an option to disable if too memory intensive.
By P-SY Go To PostHow come we can't use interpuncts in usernames?Per Django's implementation:
Required. 30 characters or fewer. Usernames may contain alphanumeric, _, @, +, . and - characters.
By Kidjr Go To PostI always thought a true next gen feature would be an option to have gifs as avys that only played when you hover over it. By reilo Go To PostThat's kinda neat actually. It would require embedded videos with some strict file size and dimension implementation, but certainly doable. For a starting point, another forum uses these guidelines for animated avatars (default is 40 posts per page there):
Must be smaller than 150x150 pixels and no larger than 100kB. Only GIF, PNG, and JPG images are allowed. Images should be "work-safe".
Those rules were made years ago and may stand to be updated now, but it's something to think about, performance-wise.
Those don't really apply. We don't have file size restrictions on here because we crop and resize the avatars here to fit in. I think they end up averaging under 30kb and future implementation will cut down on that further with gzip and proper static asset caching via CloudFront.
For playable animated avatars on hover the proper implementation is HTML5 video with an image fallback and that's a whole different ballgame.

I haven't messed with HTML5 video outside of a couple tutorials, so I will be interested to see SL&ENT's usage of it with the proposed animated avatar feature (assuming it does get implemented).

The first implementation of HTML5 will be for actual video and webm in posts I reckon. Animated Avatars could build off of that.
I'll add Facebook meta tags so we render the content properly on FB if anyone ever shares a link, but that's about it.
By reilo Go To PostI'll add Facebook meta tags so we render the content properly on FB if anyone ever shares a link, but that's about it.I doubt that's worth the effort. Get me mobile grid for desktop and webm support, lord reilo.
btw, when editing a post the height of the text box is too narrow so you usually have to scroll it down to see your actual message (you only see the quoted post). I think it only happens when you have a quote+one line of response. For example in this long message it doesn't happen when editing.
