Hi! Great work so far. The mobile interface is snappy yet I wish there would be an option to hide (and not load) gifs for the mobile view. FootySlaent is killing my mobile data plan whenever I open it.

Out of interest, what are the plans for growing this site? Not sure how things are on the NBA side, but I think there's only one of us in the Footy thread who wasn't on NeoGaf. Is it just a case of each member recommending it to others on other forums and social media?

Pessimistic, but I'd hate to see the site wither and decline because of a lack of fresh blood

The commitment is huge. We are constantly planning and discussing ways to grow the site. We want to be more diverse in both gender, race, location AND opinion. It's a long-term view, and we know we can't hit 5,000, 10,000, 50,000, or 100,000 users overnight. Growth will be exponential at times, which will make it somewhat difficult to keep track of it all.

We also have ideas and plans to move beyond just a standard forum and to figure out better ways to proper up the good quality content and incentivize people to make said good content. The tough part is, that features, ideas and growth will sometimes be slow to implement because this site is run by a few people all doing it in their free time after their 9-5 is over, but I'd also like to point out that what we have established in such a short time is no small feat.

With that being said... if you like it here and feel it needs new and fresh blood, then please let people know about it. We want to be inclusive, rather than exclusive. There's a reason we focused on the community aspects and structured the site as such.

We have ongoing discussions on making slaent not just a forum site, but also a content article site.
But there are still some key backend coding that has yet to be implemented, we are choosing not to move forward until these key backend features are finalized.
Im not going to tell you we're gonna explode and people will come rushing to these sites,
but i can tell you that Slaent will be a lot more attractive to lurkers in the near future.

And like reilo said, word of mouth is still king and we welcome members here to promote our site.

EDIT: So at one point I disabled the access log for nginx, and it somehow became active again and it used up a ton of disk space. Not sure how or why yet.

If you're on Android, Dolphin Browser lets you toggle images on and off pretty easily.

Chrome on a ACER Chromebook

I'm having issues. Slaent won't load on my laptop (neither the home page or any specific thread). I tried on both Firefox and Chrome. I'm posting this on my tablet which is connected to the same network

It's managed to work again. However for about 2 hours, on any device it would take minutes to load up a bare-bones version of the home page.

Can I Private Message people on this forum?

Also just a suggestion I think things should be divided into sub forums (sports, entertainment, life etc). This is purely a personal preference and maybe slightly OCD.

Early on it'll be YouTube and SoundCloud integration, with possibly twitter parsing. It's something we'll weigh against performance concerns because in the past all of those types of embeds were a huge strain on load times.

It's too confusing from a UX perspective and we are far too small to make it worthwhile. More options doesn't necessarily translate to better experience.

Subforums sound like a bad idea at this stage.

Would end up with dozens of threads with like 5 replies.

Can one of you open developer tools and go into Network on Chrome? It will tell you if there's a file that fails to load. That could be it.

I'm hitting the road for the next 7 hours or so, but I'm gonna guess it has something to do with either Google reCAPTCHA or our font hosting service.

Nothing fails to load here according to developer tools. But it's talking too much time to load.

Slaent keeps stealing the other websites ico files for me on chrome. First it was GAFs ico file for a long time, then gmail and now it switched to soundcloud of all sites.
