So, this is what it looks like when one dude with real training decides to say fuck it? No extensive planning, just a guy who knows how to move and shoot. If it were three or four people like they initially said, there would have been way more casualties.
I still can't believe it was a lone shooter. Like, how was he able to snipe and then hit the street so quickly and stay moving for so long? That's just crazy to me.
i can't even....
“All those protesters last night, they ran the other way expecting the men and women in blue to turn around and protect them,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told Fox News. “What hypocrites!”
Yeah the "BLM's fault" shit is popping up now. Now the conversation will be even more strained. Wonderful.
He either doesn't know or doesn't care that the protest was organized with police cooperation. The cops were walking with the crowds.
I think there's a chance the movement against police brutality and the justice system will begin to try to disconnect itself from BLM at this point.

I don't believe BLM ever had a chance of making a difference to begin with. This country progresses when white America is ready to progress, and white America is still firmly on some "Us Too" bullshit whenever they hear the name. It can't ever be about us without it being about them first. I might feel differently 40 black presidents from today.

Unfortunately this is true. Concepts like structural racism aren't taught until college, if that. I know I didn't start learning about the concept until I took college business courses. Specifically HR courses. Most people don't want to accept the concept because they don't want to upset themselves while finding out they're indeed part of the problem. I think this is the first year presidential candidate even mentioned structural racism.
The Dan Patrick's of the world are who should be targeted if you're even remotely going to go down that path.
By Tea Go To PostIn the end they basically blew him up with a robot? Shit. One less job available now. Thanks Obama...
BLM is going to be ok if not stronger. We need the police to be woke. We need them to understand that they need to be held accountable for their actions. Fuck Dan Patrick he wants the division to continue and does not care about black people.

I think this shooting will have an opposite effect but who knows.

oh great. thousands are swelling downtown atlanta for a protest march tonight and the protest organizers are using rhetoric like "Genocide".

I will be surprised if shit in downtown atlanta isn't set on fire tonight. I think i'm just going to hide in my house all weekend and pray they stay away from 10th street.

Rev. Francys Johnson, Georgia NAACP president addressed a cheering crowd:
“The logical conclusion of racism is genocide.”
Johnson said some “smooth talking politicians” who want votes are urging calm. “This is no time to be calm. You would be a fool to be calm if you are under genocide,” he said. “Racism is not a black problem, it’s a white problem.”

By Tea Go To PostYeah the "BLM's fault" shit is popping up now. Now the conversation will be even more strained. Wonderful. Its amazing how stupid suspect White supremacists are about BLM. Theyre so conditioned to view even the mildest criticism of cops as a racially coded attack, they were incapable of seeing BLM for the mild mannered organisation its always been. They accept Whites, Asians and openly gay people in their ranks, they dont tote guns, they dont really encourage economic boycotts, they just march through the streets, chanting slogans and begging White supremacy for mercy.
If you you put your ear to more militant circles, youll know theres plenty of Black folk that look down at BLM and have serious problems with the image BLM presents.
They figure weve been asking White supremacy for equal rights for forever and at this point, its degrading and embarrassing to parade ourselves around on TV, pleading for mercy & understanding from the White supremacist system . Some folks have had enough of that.
Some folks would rather not do the whole public marching thing and just build economic capital and pool our resources together.
Because historically, the only thing White supremacy responds to in any meaningful fashion is economic boycott (see the riots in Cincinatti , subsequent boycotts and the massive reforms that brought) and violence.

That is very wrong. Black Americans achieved a whole lot through struggle. Liberation does not come from the top.

Fuck Dan Patrick he wants the division to continue and does not care about black people.I saw a lot of folks hand wringing about how the Dallas assassin is gunna mean the cops start wilin out on folks even more than they already have. That could happen. But I dont think it will. The race soldiers in the police force kill us like its nothing when they know there will be no meaningful repercussions. They dont give a shit if Black people riot and loot our own communities. But after yesterday, the race soldiers on the police force may think twice about what might happen if they murder us in cold blood.
Going back to Cincinatti, what brought about change there, was that in addition to the riots, there was an economic boycott that followed that cost businesses in their DT area millions.
The BLM ppl that I've known in real life and are in my facebook feed LITREALLY responded to the Dallas shooting with "nah fuck the pigs". I've watched their racism in their posts and ideas for months, and understand that BLM is backed by ideas and points of view that will naturally lead to this. The racism within BLM is not a surprise. That's why I feel people will sort of 'lean out' of it at this point. The anti-capitalist/3rd wave feminism POV is going to fuck up getting anything done and lead to more bloodshed. You can blow a gasket on that point if you want, but the smart people will know to get away from things they've quietly understood for awhile.
You can address justice systems that unfairly hurt blacks and you can address militarized police being a problem, and the high homicide rates among blacks as a problem, and even address police brutality while acknowledging it happens to whites. (In fact, that would help things.) But BLM has a political heartbeat that doesn't want to adjust the system to help people but eradicate it, and that will be a response that leads to more violence.

That doesn't contradict what I said though. Black struggle is an annoyance and an inconvenience to white America. When you gain just enough allies and they eventually grow tired of it, they loosen the slack a bit.
Civil Rights, Women's Rights, Gay Rights still have to be passed by the top and the top is not at all representative of any of those groups.

This is exactly what we need.

Seriously like maybe your fucked up ass fb randos who use the hashtags aren't the best evidence for what most BLM activists are actually thinking.
Maybe consider that Identity Politics identifies me by white male rather than by what I aim to say or as a person, and how that sort of point of view is the gateway to bigotry and racism. Then extend that out on a wider scale and understand how that can lead to racism and radicalization with further chant-based mentality.

The driving factor is forcing a situation where the dominant society is compelled to change, even if it would rather not. Economic power is the key, capitalist America gets attentive real quick when their pocket books get hit.

Newsflash: The Black Lives Matter Movement is full of all kinds of people, mostly the same people who've been civil rights activists, community leaders and authors for fucking years now. The dumbfucks on your FB being anti-cop is not at all representative of the activists/activism within it. Fuck off.
By etiolation Go To PostGaby- You teach, correct?Sure, US history, UK/empire history, english as a foreign language. I don't mean to be rude, but you're lumping altogether very different things in a general attempt of badmouthing activism ("chant-based mentality", the racism of the far-left when it does not hold power, etc). There's a campaign blaming BLM for violence it has tried to stop. You're a part of that effort to discredit people who have been highlighting a huge issue.
You'd be better served teaching art, Gaby.

Get on the level of "I have a black friend" and other alt right terminology. Quite astute. A+. Much intelligence.

It's an old accusation, reactionaries always say that of progressive movements. Garvey, Malcolm X, King... They've all heard it!
(really OT but I kinda laughed at the subtext of "you should teach art", I mean, I hope for the sake of art teachers that they don't have to engage you considering your opinion of them)
