So, if you does the raps, the beats, or the cuts, post it here. Soundcloud, Soundclick, Bandcamp, YouTube, whatever. If you're confident in it, post it here. You can also talk about your preferred techniques in your craft of choice.
As a conversation starter:
1. Stage Name
2. Where you from?
3. Music Genre
4. Where your music can be found?
5. Thoughts on the music industry at large.
DJ, spin dat shit.
For all of you musicians and artists out there, some things to look forward to in the future is an integration to SoundCloud and YouTube.
2. Seattle / Yokohama
3. Hip-hop / Dancehall / EDM
4. a few shops in Japan and on my website
5. On the hip-hop side I don't think the industry is as broken as people say. Production has been top notch. The only problem is the lack of true superstar talent thusfar
Where you from? Mary Esther, FL (it's the halfway point between Pensacola and Panama City)
Music Genre Alternative, with a ton of influence from chamber pop, psychedelic rock, and metal
Where your music can be found? Albums are here, Soundcloud is here. I also recently got my album approved with Catapult Distribution, and my major album Trinity is in the middle of being processed through all the major digital music retailers. It's already on iTunes and over the next couple days it should be showing up on Spotify, AmazonMP3, Xbox Music, etc.
Thoughts on the music industry at large. I honestly don't know enough about the pop, hip-hop or rap industries to make fair judgments, but I am glad that we live in an era where small(er) indie artists looking for modest success are completely possible thanks to social media and the variety of options available like distributors and online retail. It's still crazy to me that my generation is capable of talking to all these super important faces in various industries from music to general entertainment thanks to stuff like Instagram and Twitter.
Sampling is hard.
By jWILL253I'm currently making a rap album where the beats are only using video game samples. I've run into a bit of a wall.

2. Tacoma, WA - aka "The City of Destiny", the 253.
3. Hip-Hop/Rap, both in production & performance.

5. Too many Ma$e's and not enough Biggie's...
So, I've been focusing on production almost exclusively, as I'm working on an EP 100% produced, mixed, engineered, mastered, and written by yours truly. It's time consuming.
Anyways, I found this ill drum sample from a track off the Final Fantasy XII soundtrack. Had to flip it. No frills or extra shit, just had to make it knock.
Have a listen. Enjoy...

I was born and raised Seattle, lived there until I was 26 and moved to Japan. I am from the Lake City area, but went to school in the CD mostly, TT Minor, GHS.... Your handle makes perfect sense now btw..

What spurred the move outside of the states, if you don't mind me asking?

well Japanese history major made sense for me to come here.
but was a ton of factors that went into it.
Love it over here but do miss Seattle some times
But, I'm from Texas, I make a couple of kinds of music, all electronic. I do some synthpop, and a lot of dark ambient/experimental/noise stuff, some influenced by hip hop.
I produce all my stuff in Logic Pro, mostly using a keyboard, some field recordings, and more effects than a sane person would ever throw down.
Does anyone in here have an experience with mixing and mastering?
I'm trying to become a jack-of-all-trades of sorts, and I'm finding the process... difficult.

I just pay people to master... I find a fresh set of ears to be best.
If you want to learn how to do it, start on other people's work tbh...

I would pay people to do it, but I can't afford the privilege, SMH.
That's the reason why I'm trying to do everything on my own. In an industry where everyone has their hands in the artist's pocket, I want to be cost-effective with this art.

you can find for fairly cheap tho
but if want to learn do someone else's music first

Can I ask why on someone else's music?
Not trying to be annoying, serious question...

because it will give you a more unbias ear...
it's basically the same reason why writers shouldn't edit their own work.
you know how you want it to sound not how it does sound if that makes sense

You need to step away from what you're doing for a while if you're going to do that yourself. Your ears become fatigued and you lose the ability to be objective. Take a day or a week off from intense listening and let your ears reset. It's not a skill that's going to necessarily develop quickly anyway.
And a good way to practice is to use reference mixes - something that has been done by an industry professional in the same general style as you. Study that sound and try to copy whatever they did. If you have any specific questions about anything I'd be happy to help in any way that I can. Been doing it for 16 years so I know some stuff.

Holy shit, just seen this.
You're an engineer? That's good to know, man. I haven't been working on music as much lately as I've been trying to get my financial situations ironed out a bit, but I'm trying to start up again in preparation for school.
It's like getting back on a bike.
Apple's professional music-creation app Logic Pro X has just received a big upgrade, and with it is one of the most ambitious software instruments the company has ever released. The highlight feature of Logic 10.2 is Alchemy, a software synthesizer originally developed by Camel Audio before Apple snapped the developer up earlier this year. Alchemy can do a little bit of everything: it can create sounds using samples or multiple types of synthesis, including virtual versions of old-school analog synths. A plethora of filters and modulation options come as part of the package as well, offering a lot of potential sounds but also creating an array of combinations that could be next to impenetrable for many users. However, Alchemy also comes with a clever way of moving between different sounds that can make performing with the instrument as intuitive as swiping your finger across the screen of a tablet.
Different sounds or parameters can be placed across the eight different segments of what Apple is calling the "transform pad." It's a simple grid, but as the user drags their cursor across the segments, the sound mixes and morphs fluidly, leading to what should be a much more playable, experimental experience than just fiddling with a bunch of virtual knobs (though users can dive down into that level of granularity as well). Right out of the box, Logic Pro users will have a lot of terrain to explore: Alchemy comes preloaded with over 3,000 presets.http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/25/9200777/apple-logic-pro-x-mac-tools-alchemy-update
