Not to defend his awful shooting, but isn't this inevitable in a Moreyball offense when 61% of his shots are 3 pointers?
You need to shoot 33 percent to justify shooting the long ball
Trevor is shooting 31% lul.

And Gobert being better than Adams at this point in his career in no way makes Adams a bad pick.

Damn, I knew he looked like he was in pain last night. I don't think he'll ever be healthy.
By chandlerparsonsWhat does the first bolded part mean? Smith should never start, so I'm not sure why you're saying that's our current starting 5. It's been Beverley/Harden/Ariza/Motiejunas/Howard (as it's been the past two games, and 7 more games than the lineup you mentioned).
Does Smith come off the bench still? Sorry, I was unaware. Regardless, since Smith joined the team, the 5 man rotation I listed with Smith is by far the most used lineup. So much so it's already the #2 lineup for the entire season.
The second bolded part is true. I don't have offensive efficiency stats, but PPG we'd be 6th with a healthy Howard compared to 21st without. Lin turned into Brewer, which I'm fine with. He makes our starters look lackadaisical in comparison. When you say 'aren't being replaced' do you mean they're irreplaceable or just that they haven't been? Asik moped on the bench for almost half of last season. Wasn't really hard to get better production over that, honestly. I'm kinda disappointed the Pelis haven't thrown in the towel, but the pick we got from them should be of some value (hopefully before the deadline).
Of course they're replaceable. Lin isn't something special. They just haven't been, yet. In order to try and get Bosh, Morey sacrificed his bench and got burned by it. Shit on Asik's moping all you want, but the fact is when he played without Dwight together, Houston's offense wasn't that much worse as with Dwight (no Asik). You don't have a guy like that on the roster anymore. No playmakers off the bench, either (lolterry).
That pick is only worth something in a trade. Houston needs to win and win now. They can't wait 3 more years. Morey should be using his TPE from Asik to grab two bench players from somewhere.
Of course, it might not matter with Josh Smith on the team.

By HasphatsAntsIt'd be unbelievable if Timmy wins his first DPoY in his 18th season.
He deserves it too. Second in D-Rating playing for a top 5 defense, on top of providing the only reliable source of rim protection they have.
Timmy camps in the key all game and should get 3 seconds called on him in every possession. Timmy doesn't deserve DPOY, get out of here with that nonsense.

Have you watched a center play basketball in the last four years or do you just stare at Kobe.
By reiloLopez is out 6-8 weeks with a broken hand, Joel Freeland is out 2 weeks with a strained shoulder. That's our #1 and #2 centers out. Batum has missed several games when he hurt his knee earlier and has been playing with a bad shooting wrist after his nasty fall against Milwaukee. At one point we were starting Allen Crabbe. Yeah, that guy. You've never heard of him. That's the point. Aldridge has missed several game and played several more while sick. Mathews sprained his knee against the Lakers and probably won't play tonight. CJ McCollum missed a month to a broken hand.I knew Lopez was out, but I hadn't caught on about Freeland. Thanks for taking the time to explain your point of view, but I still don't see how that compares to the 31 missed by Jones, 12 by Beverley and 12 by Dwight. (What can I say, I'm a homer.)

Pick a center. Pick a game they play SAS. Keep track. I can guarantee you that Timmy will probably stay in the paint about 2-3 times longer than the opposing big.
Even the Pistons game with Drummond of all people, it was noticeable and evident.
If you have Ball streams, re watch that game. Just for a taste. Go to the 9:10 mark of the first quarter and watch. He's in the paint for 9 consecutive seconds without touching anyone or stepping a foot out before the shot goes. 9 consecutive seconds. That's not a normal occurring thing around the league.
Great defensive bigs can and do switch onto guards. They trap at the 3 and then recover. They're mobile. Timmy's a great defensive big because he's camping in the key and he's brilliant at angles and fundamentals and timing. But he's not mobile, he's not agile, he's not as versatile as he used to be.
If I was an opposing coach, I would have one of my assistants splice video mixes of him camping in the key every single week and send it to the league. I would talk about it before, after, and during every Spurs game till the Refs wise up and crack down on it.

So much so it's already the #2 lineup for the entire season.Bench Smith is Best Smith. When you say 'by far', do you mean used in just as many games as another lineup? Like I said before, Smith starting didn't work and he's come off the bench the past two games (and I assume the next game, and the one after that..). If I found the source for your 97 point lineup stat, then it also says that our actual current lineup, and actual most used lineup has an offensive efficiency of 112, which sounds kinda decent, don't you think?

It kinda says something that you find yourself coming off the bench with a Nashless Lakers, but I do miss Lin's ability to drive and (when he's not turning it over) make a pass. If ever Terrence Jones comes back, I honestly don't mind the look of Motiejunas, Smith, Papanikolaou, Brewer, Terry as our bench (with the exception of a true point guard). It's certainly better than that Black, Dorsey, Garcia, Daniels, Johnson thing we had before.
We only got a TPE from the Lin trade, not the Asik one (we only got New Orlean's first). And did I miss something about the trade deadline being changed? Morey's got 7 weeks to make something happen with that pick and sizeable expiring contracts of Terry, Shved and Papanikolaou.

Kind of inflated by 1 game against a crappy D missing its best defender. We'll see. By used lineup, I mean by total minutes.
FWIW, I'm not arguing Houston's best 5 man rotation is a bad offensive unit. Merely pointing at the whole team. Every team (outside Philly) has good offensive lineups. There's a good chance that Morey ball is not maximizing the bench as it is.

Lin comes off the bench because there's no one else to make plays when Kobe sits so Price starts. Lin is better than Price. Lin would still be decent for Houston and much better than what they have now.

Don't see an impact player available for them. Not sure a legit backup PG becomes available which they sorely need. But sure, they have time to get one. Expirings don't really mean anything right now, fwiw. Not saying he can't trade them but they don't have the value they had in the past. Re: trade exception, perhaps they used it to get Ariza and still have the Lin one. Where it comes from is irrelevant, it's the exact same contract and thus TPE.

Lots of interesting stuff in this article.
The Rockets and Clippers are both looking to bolster their title-contending prospects, have riverboat GMs and have players on the market who would fit their needs.Really bad time for Deron to get injured again, but it's just cartilage so he'll be back before the deadline. I mentioned this before and TheKad and IMTWB laughed, but injured Deron for injured Terrence Jones and expirings would make sense.
The Rockets need a point guard, and both Dragic and Williams stand as potential targets. This is where fins and flippers get snared. If there's a team more loaded with tweener forwards than the Suns, it's the Rockets, so other than a first-round pick (from the Pelicans), Houston doesn't have anything of obvious value to the Suns nor the cap room to take in Dragic for simply a pick. Williams' $19 million salary, meanwhile, would have to be matched, and the Rockets don't have one big disposable expiring contract to make it work.
Taking the interim tag off Tyrone Corbin as head coach of the Sacramento Kings was a momentary victory for the team's basketball operations over owner Vivek Ranadive, whom sources say was hot and bothered about making a splashy hire to replace Mike Malone, hence the speculation about Mark Jackson or George Karl being hired.:/
While there were doubts if Malone was the long-term answer for the franchise, most of the organization was happy with the Kings' direction and felt the team, overall, was overachieving this season. Ranadive, however, was unhappy that Malone wouldn't answer or incorporate his texted ideas about how the team should be run, sources say, and made the unilateral decision to fire him.
The love for all things Louisiana by Pelicans owner Tom Benson and his wife, Gayle, is well-known. That could be why the hot rumor circulating around the league right now is that if Benson decides the team is not meeting expectations and makes changes, he will bring in two Louisiana natives as replacements—former Detroit Pistons GM Joe Dumars and former Nets/Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson.Rest. In. Peace. Pellies.

Lebron has been rehabbing in Miami.
James spent part of that time doing rehab at the Cavs' practice facility but also spent time this week in Miami. Spending time in the warmer weather was deemed healthy for James' back. James said he was having rehab sessions three to four times a day during the past week.Visiting his old clinic for certain banned treatments perhaps?
