Someone from Clippers media said Lawler was dealing with food poisoning, but I wouldn't associate that with slurring through everything.

Plumlee and Cousins would be an interesting combination. It would probably work better than Plumlee and Lopez because of Boogie's passing.

By Omzzdetroit pistons have found the cureSo semi-serious question. Say Houston manage to hold on to a playoff spot with Smith still on the roster. If we get rid of him just before playoffs, do we get to go on a 7-game winning streak, too?
People in here shitting on Houston's offense seem to be overestimating the Parsons/Ariza thing, and underestimating the Terrence Jones thing. If you just look at stats, you're really failing to grasp that for more than a month long stretch in the season, we had to start Tarik Black and Isaiah Canaan. Would really love to see how any team (besides the Spurs) would function offensively without three of its starters and their 3rd string players making up the entirety of their bench. I mean, try getting to 100 when you're giving serious minutes to Joey Dorsey, Clint Capela, Francisco Garcia, Troy Daniels and Nick Johnson.

The current starting lineup, which is already the 2nd most lineup this season, is not good on offense. It's under 100 points per 100! That's Beverly-Harden-Ariza-Smith-Howard. So it's not just the bench.
Of course, I called the bench woes this offseason. And I mentioned how an injury to Harden or Howard could doom them. They were lucky Howard's injury coincided with a weak stretch in the schedule, otherwise they'd be in 8th right now. They're offense goes to shit without Howard. Not because he's so amazing but because his backups are garbage. But the Asik trade sealed that fate. The problem was never the Parsons for Ariza move. Downgrade on O, upgrade on D, it could get close to evening out. The issue was losing Lin and Asik for nothing at all. Those guys aren't being replaced.

Portland is going through that exact scenario and doing just fine.

Partnow's rim protection metric. My main question is what the hell are the Pelicans doing so that they don't have anyone in the top 20 and Davis is somehow negative in points saved.?

So it's not just the bench. What does the first bolded part mean? Smith should never start, so I'm not sure why you're saying that's our current starting 5. It's been Beverley/Harden/Ariza/Motiejunas/Howard (as it's been the past two games, and 7 more games than the lineup you mentioned).
Of course, I called the bench woes this offseason. And I mentioned how an injury to Harden or Howard could doom them. The second bolded part is true. I don't have offensive efficiency stats, but PPG we'd be 6th with a healthy Howard compared to 21st without. Lin turned into Brewer, which I'm fine with. He makes our starters look lackadaisical in comparison. When you say 'aren't being replaced' do you mean they're irreplaceable or just that they haven't been? Asik moped on the bench for almost half of last season. Wasn't really hard to get better production over that, honestly. I'm kinda disappointed the Pelis haven't thrown in the towel, but the pick we got from them should be of some value (hopefully before the deadline).
By reiloPortland is going through that exact scenario and doing just fine.I'm sorry, I don't know your team very well, but did something happen to Aldridge and Matthews (i.e. your second and third scoring options)? I don't know how comparing Kaman and Blake who have two decades' worth of NBA experience over an undrafted rookie and a second year player make it 'exact' either.

Awesome work Kobe
I think people keep forgetting he's a 19th year player. I'm not interested in him taking a charge on a Blake Griffin of all people during a blowout loss just to fuck his body up even more and take 2 weeks to recover from it.
That being said, this might have been his worst game of the season, and thats saying a lot considering how bad he's been for pretty much all of December.
But tonight was just one of those throwaway games for the whole team. Everyone was horrible. Clippers have beat LA by something like an average of 27 points over the last 4 or 5.
Were the worst in the league at defending the PG and the PF and they have the best combo in the league.

There has to be something else going on outside of the games, because he hasn't deserved to be buried like he has IMO. Reggie has been playing like ass and still getting his customary 30 mpg. Lamb misses a couple shots and he's on a fucking milk carton.

I don't see the Celtics moving Green at all, Ainge loves the guy. Unless they can get a 3rd team to take Wallace's contract. Deng makes more sense for both teams.
Need to win at home against Utah on Friday, then we have a 5 day break to hopefully get our shit together.
The rest of January is gonna be brutal. Only 2 home games after Friday (and one of those is against GSW on B2B) with roadies against the Rox, Wiz, Hawks, and Grizz.
Way too early to panic, but I could see us making another move if we don't start playing up to our ability.

Lopez is out 6-8 weeks with a broken hand, Joel Freeland is out 2 weeks with a strained shoulder. That's our #1 and #2 centers out. Batum has missed several games when he hurt his knee earlier and has been playing with a bad shooting wrist after his nasty fall against Milwaukee. At one point we were starting Allen Crabbe. Yeah, that guy. You've never heard of him. That's the point. Aldridge has missed several game and played several more while sick. Mathews sprained his knee against the Lakers and probably won't play tonight. CJ McCollum missed a month to a broken hand.
Really, if anyone can bitch about injuries this season its Thunder fans.

Portland didn't even play last night and their ORtg went from 10th to 7th simply because of other team's losses lol.

Jason Concepcion: Years from now, when the memories from the 2014-15 season are mere shadows in the fog, the children of a revitalized city of Detroit will gaze upon the bronze statue of Stan Van Gundy waiving Josh Smith1 and know: That was the moment everything turned around.
Every December 22, Detroit’s citizens will gather for a three-day festival, at the end of which a wooden model of Smith will be ritually cast out, and a huge tapestry representing his contract will be torn into five pieces. The people of Detroit will do these things because, while removing a surly 6-foot-9, high-usage ocean of bricks from a basketball team should naturally improve the performance of said team, the extent to which the Pistons have improved post-Smith is magical.

The Jazz's #5 pick isn't doing anything, but we have a 7'2 center who is dominating in only his second year so... I guess that evens out potential wise?
This upcoming offseason is going to be interesting. We're kind of close to being good again, but it's difficult to say what to do with Kanter, whether Favors and Gobert are going to work together... And making the playoffs in the West while being just good is hard.
If we could get a star perimeter player for Favors, that might be worth considering for a potential playoff run though.
