Also, Whiteside was on LeBatard's show earlier today. two takes:
Dan said that if Whiteside turns into DeAndre Jordan that we've basically found a gem. he asked whiteside who he thinks his game resembles and who he thinks he will be, and his answer was david robinson and alonzo mourning
later he asked "Who is the coolest person or the most excited you've heard from since your triple double" and his reply was straight up "Ronnie2k"

He gets tons of open looks compared to the others and tends to kill momentum with stupid shots. Also notice that he's much lower on that list then the others. It's a shame Crawford hasn't had a good backup PG with whom to work or his stats would be much higher. Redick on the other hand works with one of the best passing point guards in the league and still manages to routinely blow wide open shots.

Redick thrives on open looks when his team is able to dominate inside. He's not very good at all at creating his own shots, nor is he good at making contested shots. Crawford's had a much tougher time this year because he's had to play with Farmar and Rivers as his PGs, the latter of which isn't even a true PG. He's had to be the primary ball-handler, which is not a position in which he is all that comfortable. He takes a lot of shots, but he's kind of had to this year. Unlike Redick, though, he knows how and when to force the issue, drawing free throws and getting to the rim when necessary. If the Clippers had held on to Collison instead of going after Hawes, their second unit would be in much better shape. Regardless, I love that Crawford continues to play his same game regardless of how well he's shooting or how the rest of the team is doing, while Redick annoys me by seemingly only doing well when pouring on the score while Blake and DJ are already dominating inside. Realistically, Redick's a better 3 point contest candidate than Crawford, as he's a more consistent open 3 point shooter, but his game bothers me a lot more than the other 4 contestants. I'm not a huge Korver fan, as he's in many ways a super Redick, but he at least has the ability to bring his team back from a big deficit by hitting timely 3s.
By VahagnThe 3 point contest hasn't meant shit since Paul fucking Pierce won it.

Obviously he's not already already having a top 10 or 20 season ever. PER tries to gauge defense off of blocks and steals, but AD's blocks+steals numbers are a good deal greater than his defensive impact right now. I can't tell if that's from his youth, a real problem, or Monty Williams... I think it's Monty though.
And, for the defensive horror show of the week.
Pelicans points allowed per 100 possessions:
Ryan Anderson off court: 101.5 (would be 2nd best in NBA)
Ryan Anderson on court: 111 (would be 3rd worst in NBA)
Ryno is the only stretch 4 I don't like. Such terrible defense. Defense and shooting is why guys like Draymond and Ibaka are so valuable.
Obviously 2015 Davis is not having a better season than GOAT 91 Jordan, but PER is a nice statistic that puts players' production based stats in context. By any measure, Davis is having a historically efficient season given the amount he's produced, and that's all PER really seeks to do. Eye test has nothing to do with it.

But they absolutely need Ryno vs good defensive teams. Smart teams take the rim/lob away and let Jrue and Tyreke put up floaters. Ryno pulling out the second big is their main answer to that.
As for his defense: It's not just Monty. He needs a KG or someone to teach him defensive wits.
You know I'm going to use Boogie to demonstrate, but here it is:

1. Watches Rudy Gay lay it up instead of sliding over to deny.
2. Never guards in the post. And when he does, Cousins scores right through him.
3. Watches Cousins lay it up right past him.
4. Playing "free safety" and is nowhere near the rim on many plays. This one does fall on Monty.
So Monty's design has some to do with it, but there's also just poor reaction time and awareness. My theory is that they're afraid of him taking extra body blows by guarding low in the post, so they have him do his free safety thing. The problem is that he ends out of plays, away from the rim, and is giving up too many offensive boards by roaming or trying to block jump shooters. He does it here and there and it's crazy, but then there's often offensive boards that the Pellies give up because Davis is out by the FT line.
By giririsssITT JJ Reddick is still the source of all clipper problems but Jamal Crawford is a team player.Nah he's not the main source of the Clippers' problems. I just don't care for him as a person or as a player. The main issues with the Clippers this year are a lack of inside presence by Blake, inconsistent effort against certain teams, Chris Paul having an unusual amount of turnovers (especially late in games), and lacking a solid backup PG like they've had in the past with Bledsoe and Collison.
The Nuggets are having their first shootaround of 2015 tomorrow thanks to Lawson being able to come to practice without a terrible hangover as he tries to drink less following his DUI problems.
