Tonight... the Stig goes on vacation, AlphaSnacks complains about scripted events, and reilo calls people idiotic cocks.
The three stoogeketeers are back as Series 22 officially kicks off with their Patagonia special. Jeremy, Richard, and Captain Slow drive from Bariloche to Ushuaia in a Porsche 928, Lotus Esprit and Ford Mustang.

By giririsssI'll watch it joyously.Sorry, could you repeat that? I couldn't hear you over my M3's V8 at 8300RPM.
Then go on a run.
And hate everyone with a hot car.
That was a good special overall. A couple of spots where it took me out of it a bit, but overall it was a proper special.
The end was no joke, the mob was real.
That ending was fucking nuts.
I think someone at the motor vehicle center in Argentina played a cruel joke on the crew when registering their cars. Wow.

BMW's do nothing for me :P
When I go for a run in on direction i pass 4 astons, countless merc/audi/landrovers.
The other direction has a few porsche and an audi R8. Love that R8. so fkn hot.
I know there are at least 3 ferrari and 2 labmo's too, but those garages are not viewable from the street, or i don't run past them.

Yeah, i dunno about any of it. I can see clarkson being a dick, i can see him not being involved in the registration process at all (who the fuck would want to be involved?).
I know it wasn't a good look for Argentina though.
By KingGondoWhat's the best way to watch this in the US?
I think it airs in BBC America, no?
Without the insane mob assault ending, we'd really just be left with a mediocre special.
By giririsssI think it airs in BBC America, no?It does, but a week later and with all the music replaced. And really, the music goes a long way. I want to hear their Bloc Party instrumentals and whatever.

Music is licensed out and can only be broadcast to one specific station/network and to one country.
It actually goes deeper. Since BBC is a publically funded non-profit, they can use any piece of music on air, royalty free.
But, for their disc releases, they need to pay royalties.
At least that's how I remember it.

I guess that makes some sense... and the US networks probably already have some under license?
That would freak me out though. The Topgear sound track is usually spot on.

Pretty sure everyone but NPR has to pay royalties for anything they broadcast on air since everyone else is a for-profit business.
BBC America is on cable and basically privately funded with advertising. Pretty sure Top Gear on BBC America is also cut-down to make room for commercials.

Most American Networks would have private licensing deals though, "we'll pay 100,000k for unlimited use of x song"
is what i meant.
Which is why they wouldn't just pay the license for the songs that were already in the show.

Because it's expensive, I imagine. Top Gear doesn't use just one song, they use like... dozens. Each from a different label, motion picture, or whatever their production team feels suits the shot.
Just look at all of the music they used for Part 1 of the special: http://forums.finalgear.com/wts-tg-season-22/22x00a-december-27th-2014-patagonia-special-part-1-a-58959/
BBC can just straight up use those songs without recourse. Otherwise they need to get permission for each and every single one.
