By reilo Go To PostI will say that bellend is such a wonderful slang term.
By Wedward Go To PostAnd now he is likely to lose his job over it.Compared to what he's costing everyone else, that's fucking nothing.
The only consolation I see right now (outside my lingering hope for a crucifixion) is that he'll be the most reviled PM since Neville.

Selfish investors moving from the GDP to the JPY really hurts the economy and the efforts built by the current Prime Minister and abenomics for the past several years. Investors moving from a safe reserve currency to the yen as a new haven increased the value which in turn hurts the economy plan we've been following and our GPD which will hurt income.
The currency has been purposely devalued so that we can spur on export to other countries and regrow our economy. Sure I can buy more shit in America now, but this already bad news and it's going to hurt and turn back the slow and steady progress that's been made, even if I don't completely agree with some of the policies and changes made towards abenomics.
By reilo Go To PostIf Britain elects Boris Johnson as their next PM…Drop the fucking Bomb on them.
Putin, you're our only hope.
I haven't been following this at all since last few days because I didn't think it would be a Brexit anyway.
So this is bad for everyone right? I wonder what the best way to weather this storm is for the sane UKers and the rest of us.

Told ya'll in the other thread that after the initial market shock, things would be sort of normal. The Dow was down over 600 in aftermarket trading, but is already up to -350 and I wouldnt be surprised if it closed around -150ish. Everyone frantic about their 401ks, please calm down. If markets recovered from 2008, they will recover from this as this isn't anywhere near as bad as that.
Don't do anything rash with your 401ks - by the time you put in for fund transfers/reallocations, that shit doesn't execute until after market close so you've already gotten fucked by the day's losses. It's best to just ride it out at this point.

And? All of the hysterics that the WORLD ECONOMY IS GOING TO CRASH is hilarious. The fact is that this isn't anywhere near as bad as 2008 and we weathered that just fine, this will take even less time to bounce back from. And the 401k advice is sound. People who panicked and moved money in 2008 did so after the big loss and never gave it a chance to rebound, which it did in 1-2 years. The same thing is gonna happen here.

2008 was the worst collapse since the Great Depression. "We weathered that just fine" is lulz.
Let's just have self inflicted steep economic downturns with ripple effects for years because you know, eventually things work out.
Dude. Go into your supervisor's office - flash them, punch them in the face, then cuss everyone on your way out.
It's ok though, eventually you'll weather that just fine and get another job. Totally sound advice.
It'll be bad for Europe and especially UK and might up the odds of a global recession, but as far as a singular, seismic event, this is pretty tame.
Now President Trump tho...

Weathered 2008 just fine? It took half a decade to pull ourselves out of that gutter and some aspects of it are still unresolved and most possibly permanently hurt the middle class and poorest people. The rich weathered it just fine, maybe.

I have spent 10 years of my career working in retirement benefits, including working in the industry through 2008. Please continue to tell me that I have no fucking idea what I am talking about. Please.
The global economy lost $2 TRILLION today and the Dow is now at a -578. But hey, so much for your weathering theory.
And yes, young people will be fine but you're dismissing this like some sort of blip. It's not. Hell, because I entered the workforce in late 2008, my career earnings were significantly depressed because of how crappy the economy was to begin my career. The same thing will happen here.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans still get evicted from their homes every year. Today.
Even in the 1930s it wasn't as common.
Even in the 1930s it wasn't as common.
2 Trillion today by way of markets being depressed but these are not systemic issues like 2008 was and eventually the markets will climb back up. It's only been a day. "Weathering" will be several months or even weeks for now. So you can take that "so much for your theory" and shove it, quite frankly.
To the rest of you that think i have no idea what im talking about, ok then. Feel free to move money around in your investments to "safer" options after your portfolio has lost value and feel free to keep it there. And I will laugh my ass off when you are all bitching about having lost all that money when had you just left it alone, you would have been fine.
People in the UK need to worry about their long term future. People in the United States and other parts of the world, not so much.

I don't know why you keep just focusing on investments, or why you don't think this will have employment, housing and other impacts globally.
Hell, the US just lost their biggest ally in Britain when it comes to dealing with global relations and Putin is tap dancing his way into more power.

By ATTICUS H Go To Posthttps://twitter.com/KateEMcCann/status/746289949184499717Financial services is an enormous pillar of the UK economy and it's centered in London. Now that Britain will no longer have access to the single market, that sector is kind of pointless and will have to move. You're going to see literally a core sector of a G10 economy pull up stakes and flee across the English Channel. We haven't seen a democratic self inflicted fucking like this since Venezuela.

It will likely balance out for the rest of the world over a period of months / years.
In Britain though? Who knows, this could REALLY hurt them.
This would be hilarious if the consequences weren't so serious.
