Yelchin's friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.Very tragic. RIP.
Law enforcement tells us the engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. The driveway was on a fairly steep incline. It's unclear why he got out of the car.
Cops do not suspect foul play.
I met him during a Only Lovers Left Alive screening at LACMA. Very nice dude. He was with his parents and introduced me and my friends to them. Then I saw him a few months ago at a screening for the Green Room and he remembered my friends and I.
RIP Anton you were a cool dude.

Wow that's an awful way to go. I am extremely OCD about putting my car in gear and turning the wheels even when on a slight hill. So sad.
A guy I knew in HS died like this. Was trying to sneak out of the house late at night to meet up with this girl, his parents woke up and found him pinned between the car door and a tree
Instantly recognize him as the magician nephew from Curb Your Enthusiasm. RIP, horrible way to go out.
how does something like this happen?
trying to imagine being at the top of a hill, somehow mistakenly putting the car in neutral instead of park , getting completely behind the car BEFORE it begins rolling, and somehow not seeing the car rolling towards you
really fucked situation

So apparently the death maybe related to a recall with Chrysler vehicles that had:
Fiat Chrysler is recalling 1.1 million vehicles worldwide to address the problematic shifter used on cars with eight-speed automatic transmissions. The issue is that the console-mounted shifter acts like a rocker switch and always returns to the middle position after moved. This has been deemed confusing to drivers – confusing enough to cause some to exit their vehicles without first selecting Park and leading to the car rolling away.http://www.autoblog.com/2016/04/22/fiat-chrysler-confusing-shifter-recall/
By Jay Whatever Go To PostDefective vehicle. Figures. What a stupid, pointless way to go.
The vehicle isn't defective. You're supposed to hold the shifter button on the left when putting the car into park. All BMWs and some Audis operate the same way, as they utilize the exact same shifters. The system works when used correctly.
The difference is that the Germans were clever enough to realize that people will screw it up, so there is a little bit of code in the software that recognizes if the car is NOT in park and the door opens, it immediately engages park and locks the transmission up. I've actually tested these features in both BMW and Mercedes - it'll work even at certain speeds. Hell, you can theoretically never put the car in park, hold your foot on the brake and open the door and bam car engages park.
Unfortunately, American car companies are morons.
RIP to a great guy by every account I've read. 2016 has been a terrible year for celebrities.
How have 41 people been injured like this?
What the fuck are you doing getting out of a car without putting the e-brake on?

E-brake? This has nothing to do with e-brakes.
People aren't putting their cars all the way into park.
People aren't putting their cars all the way into park.
People are getting too used to tech that saves their ass. I remember getting my ass chewed as a kid if I fucked with the door before the car was put in park let alone if I took off my belt and got out.
The Verge made a video explaining why the shifter is so terrible: http://www.theverge.com/#ooid=d3eWtjNDE62Cgc9kfIvHOEAWgcPOIQX1

By reilo Go To PostThat's the share link the video player gave me, smh. Thanks.Np. It's because of dumb shit like that that I try to remember to always go back and click my links to make sure they take me where they are supposed to. I've been burned by stuff like that a few too many times.
