Question about laptops/MBP
Long and short of it, my parents need new computers. I'm curious about decent laptop recommendations...
Also, as they've always been PC users, how is the boot camp experience on say a MBP?

If you really want a Mac laptop, get a MacBook Air and don't look back. I use an older one at work and they kick ass. Your parents won't need more.
Bootcamp experience is good last time I did it like 5 years ago lol. VMs like VirtualBox have gotten good enough that you can run Windows in a VM without much performance dropoff these days.

Just get a Toshiba and be done with it.
No one i know uses a mac anymore. The fad seems to have ended. Finally.
It's funny, going back to uni i expected to be confronted with macs everywhere. But... there were none. No one was using a mac laptop at all. Weird.

I second the MacBook Air recommendation. I have a circa-2010 MBP and I plan on selling it relatively soon for a MBA.

My dad has been buying Toshiba laptops for years and they fall apart within 12 months every time. Cheap plastic.

Gah... my parents are really into the Windows ecosystem though and they're not exactly young, so I dunno if the Apple OS is for them.

So i'm told, but it seems to have waned. I was fully expecting to see a plethora of them on campus, but there were virtually none.
I also don' think AU in general fell as in love with apple laptops as america did.

Never heard anyone say that about Toshibas. They generally rate among the best of all laptops. Most corporates I know of rate them for their reliability / build quality.
Though there are always exceptions.
I've been looking at downgrading from an XPS to a Toshiba for a while. Though... poor uni student can't afford too.
For parents, I wouldn't take them out of their comfort zone. I'd leave them in the windows family. It's not worth the phone calls to ask you how to internet. It just really isn't worth the effort no matter what you think is the best "technical" choice. Learnt that the hard way many times.
