What do I tell this guy to get his wife for Christmas? Exercise equipment related.

A friend from church called me to pick my brain about exercise equipment for his wife for Christmas. He wants to know the best bang for his buck I guess. They have like 7 kids and are mid 40s I believe, so I'm pretty sure a gym membership is out of the question. I honestly have no idea what middle aged women use to exercise haha. I'm going to ask my mom as well, but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.
Right now I'm thinking kettlebells, medicine balls, and a couple bands. Even with just the kettlebells she can do a killer full body routine a couple times a week. What ya'll think?

Depends on what her fitness goals are.
Weight loss tends to be a priority for most people, especially as they get older (although buying a gift that says "you need to lose some weight!" can be a bit touchy lol).
If that's the route they want to go I'd suggest an elliptical machine and a row machine for variety. The row machine also builds upper body strength.

Depends how fit they are already. Starting out with kettle balls and high intensity routines can be a lot for the body.
I know several older friends and the most used machine they have is their exercise bike that they leave in the living room. And will ride it while watching TV.
Bikes / elipticals are great for older people who haven't really exercised much in the last few years due to the low impact.

Elliptical or treadmill.
Row machine is best, but it's intense/intimidating.
Gym membership with lessons/classes already paid for/planned on calendar is the best, IMO. Shows thought/planning and not going to class is just wasting money so she'll be more obligated to go than use a machine that was purchased.
