I had some of the robinhood cruise/airline stocks that are currently up 17-27% but its kinda offset with me owning too much Nvidia who is down 4%
By diehard Go To PostI had some of the robinhood cruise/airline stocks that are currently up 17-27% but its kinda offset with me owning too much Nvidia who is down 4%You not gonna cash out on Nvidia? How high do you hope they can go? AMD down again but I’m holding them for the long-term.
By Blue Go To PostYou not gonna cash out on Nvidia? How high do you hope they can go? AMD down again but I’m holding them for the long-term.So far I've only regretting cashing out on tech stocks (like AMD @ $55) and without an option that I'm more confident in I might as well hold on. Nvidia does potentially have some growth potential with ARM if that sale actually goes through. Their Mellanox acquisition is another potential avenue for growth.
Their current selloff doesn't actually make a ton of sense, Nvidia shouldn't really be in the "work from home" stocks and i suspect is just being dragged down by other tech/Nasdaq stocks.

I should have clarified that I believe Nvidia is a keeper. Wish I caught that when it was much cheaper. One of those stocks you cash out when you ready for a down payment on a house.

Stocks have been insane the last month. I bought a few shares of PLTR and the stock has gone up 124% in a month lmao.

some of my energy stocks have surged over 225% since pfizer news.
my portfolio as a whole has doubled from initial investment.
I can actually put down 7% down on a house, but my target is 20% down if some of my stocks reach even 50% of pre-covid price.
Mine are staying the same, why does Covid get past phase 3 so quickly while my biotech ones have to stay put for two-three years for FDA approval lol (i know the reason don't worry)
The Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday said that Robinhood, the stock trading app, had misled its customers about how it was paid by Wall Street firms for passing along customer trades, the latest enforcement action against the popular platform..
Robinhood agreed to pay a $65 million fine to settle the charges, the latest blow to the company whose popularity has surged since its founding, offering commission-free trading and an easy-to-use app. Critics have said that the company relied on practices that hurt its rapidly growing base of customers, who tend to be younger and less experienced.
Robinhood also has been known to not report accurately on quarterly earnings.
just my humble opinion. Use Webull if you want to trade at the beginning of premarket (1am PST) and Charles Schwab if you want to get into OTC/Pink. Ameritrade if you want level II data if you day trade.

I've always used Etrade but have been a bit concerned since they switched to the free trading model.
How'd 2020 go for the not-broke-boys? Decided to keep investing into more mutual funds as savings returns are just pathetic right now.
made a decent amount of money on stocks the past two months. My goal is 20% down on a house by late 2021, enough to day trade and be debt free by then.

That's huge 👏

That's something I realised as well. The power to just up and leaves companies dumbfounded. Also so much less stressful when you have that cushion to pursue other opportunities.
last year psy broke out financially.
in the year of our Lord 2021, its Dy's turn.

My Roth IRA was up 18.7% for 2020. My 401k should be about the same, given that the investments are similarly allocated, but I cannot check it at the moment.
Independent of that, my cash savings and side investment account also saw gains, and my focus on the first half of 2021 is to continue to build up cash savings for when my new construction townhome closes (hopefully in May). Until then, I'm not going to fund my Roth, and my 401k contributions will be scaled back (will still max both by end of year).

By Kabro Go To PostDidn't you have your largest savings last year?smh
Been mulling the idea of buying a canal lot. I've always wanted my own land on the water and building my own home there. Easy access to a boat and water is kind of my dream. Think this year I will go heavy into saving. If I can save 30k-40k I can afford to build after purchasing the land this year.
By Blue Go To PostNo one here buying the PLTR dip?
Personally, I don't fuck around with individual companies. I ride the market as a whole, perhaps giving a small tilt towards small and midcaps, but never a specific company.

By Blue Go To PostDo you own any ETF shares?
My independent brokerage investments are in the VTI and SCHB ETFs for stocks (different sides of the same coin, they are total stock market funds) and BND for bonds (only holding bonds due to the pending home purchase). My Roth is split between funds that are total domestic stock and total international stock, about 80/20 allocation there. My 401k is where I'm tilted ever so slightly towards small and midcaps, but it's still a broad market approach, with investments being in the S&P 500, S&P midcap 400, Russell 2000, international developed markets, and international emerging markets.
By Blue Go To PostWhat small or midcap companies do you have positions on? I’m interested in those the most.
Again, not companies. The whole thing. IVOO is an ETF from Vanguard that covers the S&P Midcap 400, and VB is their ETF that covers the Russell 2000.
I've renamed this thread for 2021 to expand beyond Finance. And Its 4 years old.
With that said, does anybody participate in Credit Card point/cash back accumulation? I started this last year, and I think it went pretty well. I pay off my CCs every month, but a couple in particular have rotating 5% cash back categories. 4th quarter for Discover for example, the categories were amazon, best buy, and some other retailer. I hit that easy. I've got around $100+ in cash back on it and same for a Chase card.
I usually put everything except Rent in a CC and then submit a payment once a week or so once things post. I was surprised at how quick the rewards came in, and looking at it this weekend, there's a whole scheme and method out there to min/max it.

By Blue Go To PostNo one here buying the PLTR dip?I'll buy in February when employees are allowed to sell their shares. The stock will tank then and I'll pick up more.
I bought some at $9 and sold when it was $30 lol made a profit of $500.
No one really knows it will tank like people hope after lockup doh. I am personally waiting for it to get to $21-$18ish.
I use the Chase family of cards to accumulate points for when travel (lol) is safe again.
Otherwise, i use cashback cards for gas and other categories, depending on what's offered.

If you're interested in CC "hacking" for travel.

I have 600 shares of BB at $7. Don’t expect this epic GME short squeeze to apply to BB but I’ll gladly take that Reddit pump.

Got a few shares at ~90 the other day. Now I’m wishing I’d bought way more.
