I had a 9,3/10 for my English exam the other week. Last English related thing I'll ever do for my study. Think I have GAF/Slaent to thank for that too. Writing in English on a daily basis since I joined GAF really helped. Still far from flawless of course.
Pretty sure most people here with English as a second language are better at grammar than myself. Our educational system is pretty lol-worthy. Especially Florida, you're basically taught how to pass standardized tests so the school itself gets a high grade.
How did you meet with Roberta? How did you propose?
We first met at a party in Turin. The Winter Olympics were held here in 2006, and the whole city was very vivid. Besides the newly built stadiums there were many events, festivities everywhere. Every day, and every night thousands of boys and girls met, exchanged a few words, and enjoyed themselves, re-discovered the streets, palaces, and felt the Piedmontese proud. One day I went to a university party, Roberta was introduced to me by my friends. I liked her immediately but I can’t say it was love at first sight. Rather a difficult journey. My courtship lasted for six months. I always called her on the phone, asking if she wanted to go out with me. She kept refusing me. Apart from being in love, courting was absolutely new to me. Before this I didn’t have a serious relationship. My relationships with the fairer sex was very superficial.
After six months of misery, and pressing, on a nice day I got the courage to tell her: ”Robi, this is my number, if you want to come with me for a little walk, and talk a bit, call me. Otherwise I won’t ever disturb you.”
Her hesitation had drained my patience, and I have always been a very patient person. Waiting this much was the hardest thing of my entire existence. But finally the phone rang. It was her, finally her voice. We went out at the very same evening. Then everything was beautiful and simple, a few dates were enough for us to understand we wanted the same thing, we both wanted a serious and long term relationship, a family, children.
Our relationship is great, we love each other, we can discuss everything, always help each other. Both of us are jealous types, I think it’s a good thing, it shows how much we care about each other. If I have to mention one bad thing; she supports Torino FC but nobody is perfect.

That's definitely true. And my accent isn't really up there either. But yeah, many Dutchies are horrible at English. But I'm pretty sure most of us at least are able to help tourists or whatever with the basics. As opposed to random people in southern Europe most of the time. Since they implemented English in schools even later than us.
My sister is several years younger than me and she already speaks six (if not seven) languages fluently
English, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian and Turkish...

What educational system? I'm not even sure what I'm doing everyday. We teach them to pass exams, nothing more nothing less.
But yeah, being able to tell an American tourist in Amsterdam where the nearest coffee shop is, is the only thing that matters.

It honestly makes my head hurt thinking about it, id get monumentally confused and end up infusing all of them into everyday talk.

Pogba situation is interesting. United had no interest last summer. If he comes this year, it's because Mourinho has changed their mind

I do think it's a huge benefit to learn the basics of English in school. Not just to help tourists over here. But also for simple things like the manual you mentioned. Or looking up information on the internet that's only available in English. Or when travelling ourselves.
And obviously our generation who goes to university etc will go even further with the language since we to read scientific papers in English and other study material.

Funny you should say that, my friend daughter does this, she's grown up around four languages and you'll be talking to her and will often drift in and out of all four.

I dont think it was ever gonna happen. We aren't going to sell, and on our side Alexis has actually been making more overtures that indicate he likes being at Arsenal; he picked up Rozza's number and started doing fan videos when previously he never bothered.
I think Chicha will be pretty good back up for Dybakla. He's had his problems in the past but as far as depth additions you can do waaaaay worse

Same goes for French really. My German is somewhat better, but that's closer to Dutch so easier to understand.

I imagine its mind over matter, ive attempted to use some of those sites to learn german before, duolingo, rosetta but I come away with the conclusion quickly that I dont possess a good mind for this stuff so I give up.
It would be really nice to be multilingual though, I would quite like the experience of hearing people talk in public thinking I cant listen because I am white and English.

Clive James put it well, recently.
But I would probably have found that out even if I hadn’t gone back to school. I would have found it out in Florence, to which, in the vacations, I would fly in junkyard airliners on a continuous mission to disperse the scrum of suave Italian men that formed around the woman I would one day marry. I didn’t yet know that last part but I knew exactly how it felt when I had to listen to my lovely girlfriend being chatted up in a language that she spoke fluently and of which I spoke not a word. With no motivation other than screaming jealousy, I began to learn my first foreign language. French I am still learning now, but Italian I learned to make a fair fist of because I was fighting for my life.
