By Woodenpapangus Go To PostBarca even put a buyback clause into Romeu's transfer. For whatever reason they think, these hopeless players will turn to gold.I'm probably wrong, but from what I recall even Madrid does this for their youth rejects. (Mata, Soldado, Negredo etc)
Carvajal was brought back using that clause and now probably Morata too
By Yurt Go To Postthe new neymar thinks viola is the right club for him 😂
TBH
Probably better to hone your craft at a club like Viola and tough it out instead of heading to a bigger club, not amounting to shit, and getting benched. If you really are quality you'll rise to the top anyway.

By GQman2121 Go To PostI've got a good feeling about this Bobby Wood guy. Not so sure about the rest of this lot but we'll see.Zardes
By Pennywise Go To PostYou should feel good about Pulisic.I was joking. I've never actually seen him play. In fact, I haven't seen any of the squad play outside of the Premfaces. Pulisic is the exception, but he's so young that he's hard to judge just yet. Bobby Wood is a good name though!
Dortmund will make him great.
That Wood guy will have to prove himself next season when he plays for Hamburg, if he's actually ready for the first league.

Asamoah Gyan, Juan Cuadrado, Bruno Alves, Joleon Lescott, and Simon Mignolet. Get hype.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostThat is the thing that has always annoyed me about Arsenal, and I think your thinking is bad as well.I'm sorry, but this is verging on wishful thinking.
Spending and winning generates revenue.
Sponsors want to be associated with the biggest and best names in the sport. They want to be associated with winners, the teams that go far in the CL.
The only ceiling for a team like Juve is their own ambition.
Why buy soon to be players when Juve should be buying world class stars. Nedved, Buffon, Thuram, Canna.
Yes, in principle winning breeds winning and success.
Sponsors want that, but that's just part of the story. What they really want is what's traditionally associated with a winning club. Tons of fans. They want their brand to have as much exposure and visibility as possible, because that's what they can exploit and profit from.
Sure, it's nice to be associated with Juventus, because they're a big club, they're smashing it in Italy, doing well in Europe and have millions of fans.
But say you're a shirt sponsor. As such, let's say what interests you the most is how many people get to see Juventus play and appear with your logo all over their apparel. (There's obviously more to it, but let's keep things simple for the sake of the argument.) And it's doesn't have to be just Juve fans. With the exception of the hardcore haters, who're so bitter they wouldn't buy anything associated with Juve, everyone is welcome. Neutrals especially.
And so a Serie A game is played. 5X people watch it. Elsewhere, an #EPL game is played. 50X people watch it. Meanwhile, Juve get their hands on yet another scudetto. Maybe, by some miracle, they even manage to win a CL. Joy, tears, spontaneous acts of sexual interaction everywhere.
New season, new Serie A game. Juve are on a high, so there are now 7X people watching it. There should be more, but Juve are playing away vs. Crotone in a stadium that barely deserves that name. Nobody wants to see that. Elsewhere, an #EPL game is played and since the league keeps gaining in popularity, because there's a synergy between clubs & sponsors & everything, there are now over 60X people watching it.
The time for a contract renegotiation with said shirt sponsor is nigh. Juve went from 5X to 7X. The sponsor is happy, they'll shell out more money, but it'll be maybe something in the range of 20-30M€ extra.
That aforementioned #EPL club? Yeah. They didn't win shit last season, but they'll still get a 100M€ increase. And the gap is only going to get bigger.
So yes, Juventus should be buying top players. But with what money and how, when a top #EPL club (plus Barca, Real, Bayern and PSG) can afford to spend 3x as much? Romanticism has long left football, so it's getting harder and harder to attract big players on fame and club history alone. They want that €, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's what the world runs on.
How are you going to spend 80M€ on Lewandowski, when you're trying to be a financially sustainable club? You could do it. For a year or four. And then you'd end up like Inter. Broke and having to start from 0, with a recovery period that could stretch to decades.
There are things Juve can do to improve their revenue, and they've been doing them, and then there's things that are simply out of their control.
Brand / league power is a thing, Shanks. It is the thing that can get you to the next level, when you can't count on rich oilgarchs and big banks to keep fueling your ambitions. Or when your owners make billions every year, but refuse to invest in their club, like our dear Exor does.
And it's not even a situation that's remotely comparable to Arsenal's. The Bank of Arsenal may be a similarly stingy organization, but they're refusing to reinvest large parts of their club's profits, as opposed to Exor, where any financial injection would be simply them playing sugar daddy.
Lack of ambition may have something to do with it in Arsenal's case. In ours, it's simply called living in a 'harsh' reality.
Wall of fucking text. Yurt made me do it.

This post is just another reason why I think you are the best poster, based on football.
I read all that Zabo and I agree with your hypothesis.
The easy remedy is to sell Pogba to Conte for €100m. That would allow romanticism to reign in Turin for at least two summers. Unless you Liverpool it all away on three players that don't work out.
