In a 433 either could play the pivot and one plays further up in a box2box role.
In a 4231 they would be pretty effective in both playing in the double pivot in a counter attacking deployment of that formation.

I think I've been assuming any midfield purchase would be like Pogba or Pjanic; more attacking, a la Fabregas last year.
If he's buying Matic to play alongside Schneiderlin, I'm good with that. But neither bring the goals so I'd be surprised if that's the two he goes for.

Well we definitely need a sexy creator/distributor, I'm absolutely with you there. Matic is obvs in no way similar to Pjanic/Pogtrayor.
I'm trying to re-wire my brain as to the requirements of the various positions given that we'll likely be playing quite a different style next season. A style that I think would probably suit a decent number of our players, even Rooney.
