12/23 jurors voted not to indict the officer who choked Eric Garner.
Why should this concern you and why is this criminally fucked up? Because unlike the Ferguson case, there was absolutely no evidence to help the police officer's case. No witnesses to testify in favor of the police officers. He didn't rob and then assault a store owner. He didn't even lay a finger on the police officers who were trying to talk to him and later cuff him. There was no forensic evidence that ties up and explains some of the loose ends. His worst mistake was gesturing for the officers to leave him alone, which prompted one low life scum bag to jump behind him and apply enough pressure to asphyxiate Garner, damaging his airways on top of that.
Worst of all, all of this was caught on video. All of it. Irrefutable proof of what exactly happened. The grand jury didn't have to rely on forensic evidence. But none of that shit matters. Allegedly, the videos captured by witnesses were not allowed in the courts. Yep, you read that shit right. All of the proof you needed, that would seemingly end the entire conversation in a matter of minutes was not allowed to be used in court.
Ferguson was one thing. But this is an entirely different level of corruption that shouldn't only worry black people. It should worry all New Yorkers.

This is literally the worst idea in the universe. Because:
A) That would never happen. There is no situation in which you can fire a police force. "Hey guys, uh, no laws today but uh, new crew should be here by Tuesday, we'll start training them right away."
B) It would be like the privatization of prisons debacle, pointless arrests would go way up.
C) Handing primary punitive control over civil society to an extra governmental actor is suicidal. It's like the plot of Metal Gear Solid 4 but worse.
Privatizing the police? Privatizing the military has worked wonders. You know, especially the part where mercenaries commit heinous crimes in the name of the US and never get prosecuted.

Big city police departments have unions that are absolutely unbreakable in many ways. They rule the city with an iron fist. The union leader of the NYPD, Patrick Lynch, has the whole city by its balls. A real slimy sack of shit from the moment you hear him speak.
Organizations like the NYPD needs to be de-unionized. That's right. No union. They can retain all of their benefits of being a "union" member, such as healthcare, but they should be barred from hiding behind it over every little thing.
Unionized organizations built to protect and serve the people are a crock of shit. One of the biggest reasons is because public officials should not be allowed to strike. Patrick J. Lynch has already alluded and threatened to as much when telling the press back in August that all of the cop hate and cop bashing needs to stop in NY.
It's one thing if the retail unions decided to strike. Fine. Go ahead. It doesn't harm me much in my everyday life. But police officers? Hell no. Absolutely not. That "right" should be carefully removed from a lot of unions when it creates a danger to public society.
