If by averaging you mean playing like one out of every 4 games - then yea.

Generation and a half if we consider the year Shaq came into the league as a new generation. It's quite clear Timmy is a better big man than Shaq.
Nice bait effort guys.
But yea, Timmy's better than Shaq. It's also much easier for Bigs to stay effective in their later years than guards. You don't get shorter over time and don't have to cover as much of the floor on offense or defense. Nor do you have to rely on speed and jumping ability. Only 2 of the top 10 all time scorers are guards. So I'm not surprised Timmy and Dirk are still plugging along.

O man, are we getting into the "Prime Shaq was more dominant" argument again?
FWIW, I'm taking 18 years of Elite Timmy over 10 years of Prime Shaq and another 8 of really fat and out of shape Shaq.

By pilonv1Justin Holiday is awesomeI love this coaching staff. Puts every player into advantageous positions. Lee will fit right in perfectly. 100% better than mark Jackson
By ForeverBy livefromkyotoDid you actually believe that was really a thing?
I got absolutely nothing.
What, the Raptors being a good 4th quarter team? Yes, I believe 98 games of empirical evidence. They still hung 37 on the Bulls in Chicago themselves without DeRozan.
By pilonv1Justin Holiday is awesome
He just needed to shake off the summer league hype.
It also helps to become more familiar with the offense and actually play with regular rotation guys.
Brandon Rush...sorry, I know a lot of Warrior fans have a special place for the guy, but he's simply not a better player than Justin right now OR Barbosa.
Andre', Livingston and Holiday need to be the backup wing players. Brandon I can only see getting garbage minutes. His legs still don't appear to be there.

Also if you expanded the list to 15 it's way more balanced between bigs and smalls...

Detroit’s Unemployment Rate Just Rose
Josh Smith, from “J-Smoove” to waived. It’s no secret Detroit’s unemployment rate is 14.9%, and now we add another hard working, blue-collar breadwinner to that list. Is this where we are as a nation? That’s the future awaiting top free agents who sign on to ride the rusted conveyor belt of shattered dreams, we call the Detroit Pistons. It’s not just the automobile industry that’s collapsed in the aching belly of Michigan. Detroit owns the leading murder rate in the US, and at the top of that list are Piston players’ careers.
Apparently, the Pistons frown upon manual labor these days because a man can’t even put up bricks in peace. Is it a crime to work with your hands? At the Palace of Auburn Hills it is.
Lakers are going to get some serious pipe tomorrow from the Dubs, no one played over 30 mins so they should be fresh.

Hold on now. Shaq's was more like 14 years of being great and 4 of not. It's not almost half and half as you make it seem.
Through 16 years, Shaq and Duncan have identical ws/48 BTW. Shaq's 16th year was .166 to Duncan's .164.
I'd also point out that Shaq at 30-32 played more mpg which makes sustaining his numbers harder.
And of course, Shaq played against much much better centers the first half of his career. Who has Duncan played the last few years other than the Gasols?
Shaq's peak was higher, Duncan's been able to sustain the longevity part a bit more. Shaq's body broke down in the end (even fat Shaq was about as good as Duncan is).
I think you can go either way but it's close at least. head to head in their primes Shaq was better. Duncan may have had the better career arc, though. Lot of that is thanks to Pop.
edit: Also, Shaq took such a beating during his career, physically. It's probably why he broke down in the end. Of course, if the NBA didn't allow it, he'd have been unstoppable. A few years ago Duncan looked washed up in the playoffs similar to Shaq in Miami before he landed in Phx. Their arcs actually look very similar in many respects. Kind of grew and regressed in the same way with a late blip that made you think they were done before they proved otherwise.

Timmy did play against some elite big men during his career... not lately but Shaq also didn't face good centers late in his career.
Shaq was slightly better on O, basically the only way to stop him was to hack him. Period.
But Timmy is a better defender no way around that.
Both in their primes were amazing... not many big men dropping 53 point games or 61 point games anymore...
Duncan is still amazing and has been on the same level of quality for several years while still being arguably the best player on title teams, just a "blip" on his career arc and comparable to the one year of great basketball Shaq had after 2006.

I love how Jeff Teague goes down and the Hawks don't miss a beat because Dennis Schroder is good. I continue to be jealous of front offices that operate that well.

If it's a list just about April then I don't see how you don't have the Spurs first. Lowe even says that Pop has taken his DNP-Rest game to extreme levels this year + injuries and yet its still been good enough for a strong western conference record.

Oh, Shaq was definitely an all-time great player. I'm just laughing at the false equivalency Mamba is trying to use to compare the end of Shaq and Duncan's careers. In Shaq's last five years, he missed 35% of possible games played. In Duncan's last five years, he's missed 11%. In Shaq's last five years, he had a PER above 20 twice and WS/48 above .15 twice. In his last five years, Duncan has never had a PER below 20 or WS/48 below .15. Duncan is also still at the top of the NBA in adjusted plus or minus. In Shaq's last five years, he was traded multiple times and then left those teams in free agency to vulture more rings while only managing to play in 20 total playoff games. Duncan won a title last year while leading the Spurs in playoff win shares, playoff PER, playoff minutes, and playoff rebounds while only being 26 points away from leading the Spurs in playoff points. The end of their careers isn't comparable at all. Shaq had one great year in his last five, Duncan has been great in each of his last five.
Shaq had a normal career arc, Duncan is this generation's Kareem/Stockton.
