By dy_nastyBy KingGondoNaw…. People didn't like YNB because he consistently did the dumbest shit at the position up until 2-3 years ago. Every PG should be able to score - Rondo can't even make a team guard him.By DarkGary Payton with the nonsense now:I love when people hold YNB's insane scoring ability against him, just because "that isn't what PGs do."
http://blog.siriusxm.com/2014/12/16/gary-payton-nba-has-just-three-true-point-guards/Tony Parker and Chris Paul. Right now, there’s only three true point guards in the NBA. And people don’t understand what true point guards are. True point guards are a person who can take a basketball team and get assists, be a coach, score when he has to, play defense. I think Chris Paul does that very well, and I think Tony Parker does it very well. And people who don’t like the kid, Rondo, are crazy. I think his attitude might not be the way people want it to be, but Rondo is a great basketball player and a great point guard. He can do all of them things.
smh
when you compare the mentality of old heads like Payton and MJ, it makes you just want to hire young advanced stat guys instead
seriously these guys know fuck all despite their experience
Makes no damn sense. Payton talks like Rondo would be less of a player if his jumper wasn't broken.
For the record, when it comes to guards, the only HoFtalkinghead I really like listening to is Thomas.
rofl
Westbrook is a talented player but so was Starbury in his prime. Dude takes / took too many bad shots with KD looking on like wtf.
it's not that PGs shouldn't score it's that they shouldn't take too many shitty shots.
By IWMTB19I'm glad these talks are going to end nearly as quickly as they leaked it sounds like.A welcome change from the Dwightmare/Decision/Melo Bowl/etc.
By ForeverWhat makes everyone think this is imminent, besides following Rondo on Twitter.Trade windows really just opened.
Rondo is clearly not part of the celtics future.
Most teams have their PG's covered.
Mavs are one of a few teams genuinely interested, and like my self, i assume most people think carlisle can get the best out of him.
I don't think its "imminent". But I think the Mavs are having a genuine conversation about obtaining him. Comes down to whether or not the C's think they can get better elsewhere.

Marc Stein is saying Rondo to the Mavs will probably happen tonight.
The reason Boston is trying to trade him now is that offers won't get any better by the trade deadline, and if they trade him now any acquired players can be traded before the trade deadline.

Boston's informed teams it's focused on completing deal with Dallas soon, closing on a package to send Rajon Rondo to Mavs, sources tell Y.

I've criticized the Mavs' front office a lot over the years, but they deserve a lot of credit this year for turning Jose Calderon, Sammy Dalembert, Brandan Wright, cap space, and late 1st round picks into Tyson Chandler, Chandler Parsons, and Rajon Rondo.
Not to mention the steal of a deal they got Monta on last year.

By BranduilSo it's basically going to be a late first round pick then?By CheddahzDoes anyone know yet what year that first round pick belongs to?Woj says 2015.
By knux-futureNot sure why Dallas does this….Their point guard rotation was Jameer Nelson and Devin Harris.
Ehh, I know Jameer is like a dead body, but Rondo hasn't played defense for a good minute now...
Trading the league's most efficient scorer in Wright for maybe the league's least in Rondo is going to be interesting to view the consequences of. Still not sure about addressing PG when the Mavs have an awesome offense already.
Overall, it's okay for both teams though. I think Boston will get better and could make a playoff run now. Maybe Rondo will be better on a winning team?

By diprosalici'm glad we get a bit more talent in the western conference, started to look a bit bleak.Right? Lol

I have a feeling the Rockets are gonna just get Corey fucking Brewer.
Then the Rockets will have him and Terry and I'll be in some strange personal hell.

Wright is somewhat a product of that system. I don't think he will look as good somewhere else.
On the flip side, while Rondo is massively overrated these days (and always was honestly), I think it's a great system for him to play in. So much shooting and spacing and I bet he can still play decent defense.
I forsee his percentages going up on Dallas. He'll get ridiculously overpaid in the summer, though.

If I saw a Rockets fan wearing a Corey Brewer jersey it would make my day.
Our previous starting point guards were Jameer Nelson and Jose Calderon, Rondo can only be an improvement.

Rondo's at 40/25/33 with a 42% TS% so there's really nowhere to go but up for his percentages.

Rondo's shooting doesn't bother me. I'd be more concerned with how the offense will flow if Rondo is constantly probing with the ball.

Besides, Corey Brewer gets that calls he needs to carry a team to another chip.

Well, he is, but he shoots 75% from the field, never turns the ball over, and scores at a pretty high volume (17 points per 36 minutes). He is super super Tyson Chandler on offense (too bad about his defense though).
I'm...reserved on the deal for the moment.
With the Dallas offense being as potent as it is, it's easy to think Rondo would only be an upgrade due to his passing prowess, but so much of his skillset is disruptive. The fact that he can't shoot is disruptive. the fact that he has to dominate the ball to be effective is disruptive.
Obviously, the upside is there, but there's also potential that he disrupts an already great offense on top of the team losing front court depth.
I think it was a risky play. Especially for an expiring contract. We'll see how it works out.
