By shun Go To PostI heard that the PC and PS4 versions don't have cross play and are completely different.Shun, which version are you playing? That advice I gave you in the main gaming thread was assuming you were on PC.
Any pointers for someone who prefers third person shooting and doesn't like first person, but generally had some fun with this game.
Do first person shooting games have frame data and frame traps and optimal damage set ups like a competitive fighting game?
Started playing this again. Specifically, the arcade to get my 3 guaranteed chests/wk.
The new mode right now is OKAY. It's kinda long and boring with the basic team. Stupid difficult at the payload countdown area on harder difficulties. I just need to beat it with Mercy for my achievement. I'm not really interested in the other characters. IDK, we'll see.
I like the idea of 3v3 elimination mode...except when running into a team with like 76, Zenyatta, and Roadhog.
I like the 6v6 random mode. Keeps people from making dumb picks, but sometimes one team gets a ridiculous comp. For example, one game I lost in Mexico gave my team Two Anas, a Mercy, and IDK. Other team had two Roadhogs and two Zaryas. I wish Blizzard would take a look at that algorithm to avoid duplicates.
Eventually, I'll swing over to comp to see where I rank. And then perhaps never play it again until next season.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postabout to hop back inSombra is apparently secret OP on 2CP maps.
so…any of these new characters any good? whats the new meta
I don't know anything about the newest guy.
Lucio is still important to get past chokepoints. D.Va isn't as big a problem as she used to be. Reaper has more or less fallen out of play entirely. Winston is seeing increased usage. Symmetra isn't as trash as she used to be since she is less situational. McCree isn't played as much; seems to have had his minutes taken by Soldier. Very high skill Tracer and Genji are hard carries, according to Seagull.
yikes
played 3 comp matches and jesus what a shit show
really gotta have a group because there's just too much team work required in terms of comp switches--the game is clearly meant to be played with everyone working in concert and able to debate and switch out heroes on the fly to counter
not that hasn't ALWAYS been the case, but with the casuals starting to jump ship and the remaining players clearly being more invested/knowledgeable, the level of competition is making playing with randoms a terrible chore

Where are you getting people are leaving? I'm having trouble finding something that tracks the active userbase.
The only thing I can find is that they have added 5 million new players since January. https://www.pcgamesn.com/overwatch/overwatch-sales-numbers

I didn't mean the game was bleeding players. What I'm saying is I shouldn't be doing qualifying matches this late into a season and get hit with 3 straight matches against perfect comps. Something seems off.

People still trying to make Torb a thing. It's not a thing.
But the meta hasn't changed in a while, so the good comps are known.
I skipped last season. I should play my qualifying matches and then quit as usual.
Ranked would be okay if I never had to play control point.

Is it still possible to get the D.Va and Hanzo skins? Anyone on PS4?
You just have to play like 10 matches of Overwatch with a friend right?

Yes.
By Kibner Go To PostWait, I thought that was Heroes of the Storm and it was Genji and not Hanzo?yeah sorry. wasn't really paying attention when i replied.
Every 5 games of Hots you play with a person on your firends list you get a OW reward.
first 5 is the genji skin.
next 5 (10 total) is d.va
next 5 (15 total) is 10 loot boxes.
In the general chat there are a ton of people who will just say "queue for OW reward" and will just add you to the list and invite to a group.
I think i did 9 of my 10 in a 5 stack of people i'd never met.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postsome of these ana's are unbelievable manShe's top tier at high skill levels. Though she often requires a second healer in most team comps.
By Kibner Go To PostShe's top tier at high skill levels. Though she often requires a second healer in most team comps.Depends what they're doing. Lots of teams are happy to run with her solo, out of all the healers.
And she's top tier because of her defensive ability along with the support. A long with the fact that if your Ana is on point, she makes shutting down a pharah infinitely easier for a soldier / mccree.
ana is still good? they nerfed her like twice when i was still playing months ago. figured they'd keep trying to nerf her
what comps do people usually run now? my friends built PCs and wanna play so i'll try to get back into OW, but i havent played since November

Ana has been nerfed 3 or 4 times. But she's still top tier for supports. But... the pool is varying.
Dive comps are super popular at the moment given the winston buff and the ability to steam roll on 2cp maps.
But truthfully, comps are varying quite a lot depending on the map you're playing.
they nerfed the least useful aspect of her
her bionade is still untouched and godly. all they touched was her base weapon damage. they were going to nerf the nade but then didn't because kaplan mains her Kappa

By Dark PhaZe Go To Posti wonder if sombra will ever be top tier
I think she's good on certain maps, if your team know what they're doing and co-ordinate.
Because some maps just have insane choke points (looking at you, 2cp) and her ult can let you get a team wipe off with no mercy bull shit res.
But there are some maps where she just doesn't work. There are a lot of heroes like that in the game.
Played some competitive last night because...why not?
Ppl actually communicate unlike arcade.
Also, so sick of seeing Ana, esp if she's the only healer on the team, or it's CP and we need to get on point.

I'm straight trash at CP.
I win one out of maybe every 5 matches. Not rounds. Matches.
I've tried everything but pick Roadhog, Reaper, and Junkrat.
Plz help.

The most important thing is to learn how to not die and how to keep your teammates from dying. And then get more and more aggressive while still not dying. Teaches you your limits while still being helpful to the team.
But, yeah, not dying is only behind aiming as the second most important skill.
But, yeah, not dying is only behind aiming as the second most important skill.
It sounds stupid, but I'm serious. Focus on not dying. Teaches you limits, awareness, situational decision making, prioritizing targets, etc.
not dying is rule #1 among all shooters. especially in team games.
you don't even have to be good - just giving the opponents something to shoot at and preventing momentum from building up will dramatically alter any match

Not dying is not the problem. Bunker-busting after the other team has established a foothold on the point seems impossible.
By Phoenix RISING Go To PostNot dying is not the problem. Bunker-busting after the other team has established a foothold on the point seems impossible. Not dying is part of every single solution though.
Its easier to not die than it is to kamikaze and take out 2 or 3 opponents. Its more effective too. I mean, yeah, part of gaming is the fun and excitement of occasionally knocking it out the park like that but 9 times out of 10 holding it down and putting your gun to theirs is the way to go.
Overwatch's ....team dynamics add a lot to that obviously, but even then people think matchups/abilities/comps over fundamental gunplay way too often.
In Overwatch, you break bulkheads with simultaneous or sequential ultimates. If you can't get a pick to have a man advantage, that is.
By Kibner Go To PostIn Overwatch, you break bulkheads with simultaneous or sequential ultimates. If you can't get a pick to have a man advantage, that is.Baiting an ult is always better imo
stack the deck whenever you can

I'm going to assume you mean King of the Hill maps. Lijiang Tower, Illios, Nepal, Oasis.
In that instance, all the heroes you listed are particularly bad. The approach always has a choke, typically with range.
So roadhog struggles to get picks and retreat to heal. Illios is the most favourtable KoTH map for roadhog.
Reaper struggles to flank in given the central nature, he either has to use shadow walk to get in, or people can spot his teleport and pick him off as he spawns.
And junkrat is a zone control hero. If the other team has the point you won't be in a position to control any forward ground (there are 2 points that are exception in the whole roation for junk rat. Nepal Sanctum and....)
KoTH really requires a different set of heroes to most other modes. Mei, 76, Genji, D.va, Pharah, Winston are all good general purpose heroes on KoTH. Zarya is really good. Attack the point on these maps is really difficult. You want to get the other team focusing in a few directions, to give at least some of your flankers / DPS an open back line to get onto and do damage too.

Most memorable for me was comboing my missile barrage from a flanking position whilst zarya caught the entire defending team in her ult. Team wipe, escort complete. Mad rage from the other team.

its that much harder to carry when your team is dead. waiting on respawns means that your team is outgunned and having to work harder than the other team. working harder = more mistakes = bigger consequences for each mistake. going from being down 1 to down 3 is an exponential jump in difficulty
and be appropriately engaged too. way too often i see guys 'flanking' nothing. just because you're off the beaten path taking pot shots at the enemy team doesn't mean you're actually helping. i'd rather see people kill a good tank than a shitty medic. but you'd never notice that if you don't know how to identify good play in the first place. you do that by staying alive and actually getting a good grasp on the fight.

Overwatch is different, you're basically always better off getting the medic if it's an ana or mercy. Particularly a mercy for the resurrect deny.
But the general point about staying alive is massive, on koth maps. It's so easy to "die for the point". But 9/10 if you and your team stay alive, they won't finish capping the point.
Flanking is all about self awareness. It's incredibly important for many resons (can force the back line to stand really close to the tanks, can shut down their flank etc etc). But largely you want to be in a position where you can react and get kills. Lots of people think sitting on the point is the main point to KoTH. But once you've capped it anyone with range on your team should be far away from the point trying to hold high ground / deny entry / control an area.
By DY_nasty Go To Postshit medics are a cancer
if people want to circle up around one, all the better
Had a guy play Lucio earlier. Kept diving the other team solo. He had 4 stars. How can you play the game for that long and be thicker than sewage?

He wasn't bad. He was purposefully being terrible, running a meme. With lucios new speed buffs lots of people are exclusively playing him to try and boop people off of cliffs / ledges, and not as a healer or support at all.

yes, mccree should beat pharah. but what if mcree fucking sucks?
By giririsss Go To PostYou basically have to actively try to be bad at a healer in overwatch.I don't think that's true at all.
A lucio that can't recognize site lines is free. A mercy that can't tell a good res from a bad res is a legit positive for the other team. Ana who can't aim is dead weight. etc
its incredibly easy to be a bad healer in overwatch. just running around healing the guy with the lowest health is what noobs do across all gaming genres. and going back to the first thing.... if you can't keep yourself alive with tracer you damn sure ain't doing it with anyone else lol.
