The gender/race threads are so confusing to navigate, I like reading about other peoples experiences but I only ever feel im getting one point of view because any attempt to introduce another one is met by ad hominems and diffuse language, people dont want to cite sources, if a source is cited by someone who goes against the grain no-one addresses them. There was a thread about a youtube channel dedicated to disposing some arguments made by mainstream feminists about misinterpretations of data, which I found very interesting. The person in the videos I saw cited sources and linked to them, I agreed with some points, got confused by others and didnt think she articulated the remaining well enough to sway me. Lo and behold the thread devolves into character assassination and belittling the op who started it.
Why are people so afraid of data? I have so many spreadsheets because data is awesome, i track everything for patterns and trying to understand my brain better, be it movie watching or time spent walking based on mood, caloric intake, dreams.
So many people dont want to understand why things are and would much rather prefer to be in a "camp" than out of one.
It's not gonna happen, obviously. Not in a million years.
