NVidia Shield or the Pixel C. Shield has practically stock Android and the Pixel C runs stock android. Both are recently released and cheaper than you think.
Hm, thanks. Can't get the Pixel due to it being USB-C, making it currently incompatible with what I need hardware-wise.

What do you need hardware wise? USB C makes the device future proof. You can even power a monitor and other peripherals to connect to the device.

It lacks microsd support but makes up for it with proper tablet ratios in line with an ipad. It's stock android so you get the latest updates. The only issue is it lacks USB C support which is a bummer. Yes, there's some light bleed but find a discounted version of the tablet somewhere.
