By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostAt what point do we give credit to Billy Donovan? I mean their offense is still trash tier and just take turns iso's and PnR's but Westbrook is having his best year ever alongside Durant, Durant is back to his MVP caliber form despite coming off an injury and he's getting great minutes from everyone else not named Ibaka during important games.
you have to give him a lot. he's better at the little things than Brooks. although i guess nobody can break that my turn your turn offense KD and Russ run.
he's got the bench contributing. they're destroying on the glass. defense is definitely a step up at least in the playoffs.

By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostThe Heat ran amazing offensive and defensive stuff in years 2-3 of the big 3. They also over-achieved in the year before the big 3 when Wade was surrounded by Kwame and Smush levels of talent. They hit 4 straight finals which is a remarkable feat that required perfect managing of Wade throughout multiple seasons. Almost any team would be lucky to have Spo, even though he makes questionable lineup decisions.
Donovan has been coaching a shit defense and a shit offense carried on the backs of two top 5 guys for 82 games before all of a sudden having everything on both ends click for them. I just don't know how much of the last 3 weeks Donovan deserves credit for - because the first 5 months…ehhh
Spo is always hard for me to nail down. He managed the Big 3 which can't be understated but he also seems to struggle with utilizing lesser talent optimally at times. Being slow to adjust system wise to his personnel.
I saw a discussion elsewhere about whether Spo was a top 5 coach. Seemed to be about an even split.
Personally he isn't for me but being just outside isn't a bad place to be either way.
Even though I know this series will go the Cleveland, I'm still excited to go watch Game 1 at Jurassic Park tonight. The atmosphere here is absolutely insane.
Spo waits way too long to make the obvious adjustments that even a casual fan can notice. Mind you, it might be that he's really informed and hesitates to make decisions based on his gut but, man, sometimes you just know he's fucking up and it doesn't take a genius to notice it.
He gets the benefit of the doubt since Riles seems to trust him and he did make some changes midseason that really helped out the team but often he just takes too long to come around to some simple stuff.

Top 5 is probably high. But likely top 10 and top half for sure.
I can't really say that the heat, in any of the last 7 years have under-achieved. 1st round, 4 finals, miss playoffs, 2nd round seems damn right for The mix of talent/injuries they've had in those years.
they play hard, they're cohesive on defense and offense and they don't tune him out. He has flaws but nothing major.
By DominicanPower Go To PostLove The GS overreaction. The same shit happened last year in The Finals. There's a difference between what happened last year and the way they lost game 1.
We took some of their best punches and kept fighting back, and we're capable of playing significantly better than we did. Klay and Draymond got their points, and KD was way off and we still won in their building. The big difference between the regular season and now is our defense, which has all of a sudden become amazing.
I really think we can win game 2 and effectively end the series.
I have OKC winning game 2 and suffering a devastating reversal afterwards leading to a game 7 GS win atm
difference is that the OKC roleplayers are playing at an elite level and combined with the talent of KD/Westbrook it really is going to take MVP Curry showing up every game and not just all-star Curry
This is a continuation of how we were playing in the Spurs series, especially defensively. Our size, length, and athleticism is really bothering them and forcing them into uncharacteristic mistakes.
The fact that KD missed 20 shots and we still won should worry GS.
And Adams is rapidly becoming more than a roleplayer. I still don't trust Dion though.

Pop, Carlisle, Kerr, Thibs and Rivers(despite GM Rivers fuckery) rounding out my top 5.
I personally prefer Stevens and Stotts over Spo even though that is a bit controversial and went back and forth on SVG and decided it would depend on the team with him. Budenholzer is another I really like and my brain tells me he is a better coach but I can't really convince myself to put Spo behind him.

He fixed his rotations in the postseason. And he seems to have gotten Waiters to be an actual NBA player.
In fairness, this is the most talent the team has had post-Harden and healthiest. Brooks never got a chance the last 3 years. Westbrook and Durant basically missed two playoffs and Ibaka got hurt in the middle of one that killed their WCF chance against Spurs (and they still pushed them to 6 games.
So Donovan deserves credit but OKC is also pretty talented (Adams is a big deal, IMO).
Adams is fucking awesome. Fun to watch, great team guy, tough as nails, unflappable, and he's still only 22.
Can't wait to watch him in his prime.

It's a good thing that the Hawks weren't this embarrassing when they were in the East finals last year. We knew we were taking an L and we owned that ish.

Donovan should get credit but he won't. They've been winning games despite KD/Russ shooting 30% so it's not fair to just give them all the credit

but yeah the Thunder had a HUGE 3rd quarter that basically won them the game.

It's not fans saying this shit, it's coaches and players:
That's the consensus after The Times conducted a poll with NBA coaches, assistants and players.http://www.latimes.com/sports/nba/la-sp-nba-dirty-players-20160117-story.html
The 24 people who spoke anonymously — some of them voted for more than one player — listed their top five dirtiest players:
Dellavedova received 13 votes. Oklahoma City center Steven Adams was next with seven votes. Golden State center Andrew Bogut (5), Memphis forward Matt Barnes (4) and Oklahoma City forward Serge Ibaka (2) rounded out the top five.

Bogut and Adams are goons, but they are top tier goons. So is Dray. Matt Barnes is your rent-a-goon. Reggie Evans is a HoF rent-a-goon.
