Greg Anthony is the best. Just asked on NBA Gametime about the whole MVP discussion, and he basically called it bullshit because everyone is too busy trying to downplay what Curry did instead of just celebrating what he (and anyone) did this year and how it's what the media always tries to do

Series is not even over. Also no one is special for calling okc if they do win because you guys act like they aren't elite as well.

Such a meaningless factoid. He's won 5 championships in 17 seasons, which means he's lost 12 best of 5/7 series. Would it somehow be better if they lost more of these at home than on the road?

Would it somehow be better if they lost more of these at home than on the road?Basically. They also average 50+ wins a season so they are always the higher seed, same with the stat that 9 out of the like 13(around that not 100%) times Duncan has been eliminated the Spurs have been the higher seed.

How is something a meaningless stat if the home record is like the exact opposite. You just yourself said that the team has won tons of series, deduction skills tell you that they've won tons of elimination games.
So if they have like a .172 road winning percentage and a .800 home winning percentage, that should tell you that it's the exact opposite of a meaningless stat when they're about to play a road elimination game.
Also, you clearly aren't getting that "elimination games" go both ways. I.e the last two losses in Miami in 2013 counted as 2 "road elimination games" because game 6 was also an elimination game for Miami.

Like it's a negative.

Not every season they were a contender, and not every season will they be. But Pop has got so much out of the team, players, and franchise, that they're always a good or v.good team. Over a MASSIVE stretch of time.
So the number is somewhat inflated.
The opposite here would be (And this isn't a personal attack, or negative, so settle down), Phil. He has tended to wear out his welcome / bail when the team is in a down period. So instead of running a team through a patch where they would be good, but not contenders, he has skipped all those years.
Pop's stats will always require more than just the stat it self, but the context. Because like it or not, the Spurs are basically an outlier in the NBA.
Also Pop's core is different this year so hard to hold them to the same standard of the core this year... interesting fact tho
By blackace Go To PostAlso Pop's core is different this year so hard to hold them to the same standard of the core this year… interesting fact thoOh for sure.
It's not a great stat. It's not a record he'd be overly happy about.
But I also doubt it's something he even cares about / knows.
I'm gonna challenge that assumption. Have they actually won a lot of elimination games? How many 7 game series have they actually won?

Uhh, these responses are all just being overly defensive of pop when no one is attacking pop. It's simply an alarming stat about the very specific thing they're about to deal with.
If you go back to the last several years. Lost a road elimination game to OKC in 2012. Lost two against Miami in 2013. Lost another one against the clippers in 2015.
That's not even counting earlier rounds when they lost road elimination games and then closed out on their own floor.
Talking about Pop's consistency or sustained greatness is nothing other then apologist nonsense. He has a .166 road elimination record in his career and probably some insanely high home elimination record. That tells you that for whatever reason, being on the road for those kinds of games has a consistent massive difference.
Again. This isn't a dig on Pop. It's an alarmingly low success rate for the very situation they're about to deal with which is why I bring it up.
Well the start for this raps heat game isn't pitifully bad, so we've got that going for us right now.

Who said anything about 7 game series?
Also, Giri, I don't buy your Phil assertion.
He coached when Jordan left to play baseball. Was fired in 2004. Came back to coach a team that had no chance to to win in 2005. And then retired in 2011 due to medical concerns.
essentially he coached for 20 years and two times (summer 98 and 04) ownership decided to break things up and start fresh and didn't justify keeping him and his high salary around. But he definitely had a handful of seasons where contention wasn't a realistic possibility
