By Rob Go To PostMelo doesn't want to be here.
He wants money and he got his money. That NTC is so he doesn't wake up to a phone call telling him he needs to move to Indiana or Milwaukee
Maybe he loves the city more than the Knicks, sure, but he's still playing hard and playing well especially considering he's in the midst of a rebuild. Dude passed more and played better defense this year than pretty much any year ever.
By reilo Go To PostCome on 3SP say, come on, do it, you know you want to. Just whisper it once…
"Trust the process"
Rebuilding is totally fine. That's different from tank for as long and as bad as it takes to land a great superstar in the draft...but also make sure you're a shitty drafter too because that just gives you more chances to draft high.
He got Melo, tore everything else out, and now he has a solid front court moving forward with Porzingis/Melo/RoLo. They just need two upgraded guards and they'll have a rebuilt team. Add a bench and now you're a perennial playoff contender if Melo ages gracefully and Melo's decline overlaps with Kristaps rise.
Hard to see melo aging gracefully considering his production fell off a cliff this season.
I'm actually really surprised at his scoring numbers. Was expecting at least 25-26 PPG.

His scoring did, but his rebounding/assists/defense went up. And he was coming back from knee surgery. If he's a 20 ppg player next year with 8 rebounds and 4.5 assists on 45% shooting that's more than fine. Kristaps shouldn't take more than a couple years to get to 20/10 status himself.
What do you mean "he got Melo"? Where was Melo going? When was Melo staying ever in doubt? He had Melo before he even took the job. It feels like you're giving him an insane amount of credit for a player that was acquired in a trade prior to him becoming GM.
By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostIt's not Dolan, it's the fans/media. Dolan has been operating under the very true assumption that NY fans can't handle a rebuild. So he was willing to spend tons of money just to keep arguing that he has no problem acquiring talent and trying to be good.SAS is not a Knicks fan
Stephen A Smith, a dude who's been pissed off for years at incompetence finally got a GM that was willing to rebuild and not trade away future assets and he's still bitching because they're not great. The fans who love losing their shit at every single Isola troll tweet or article absolutely deserve the dysfunction they're getting.
He's probably making 4 million a year like Skip to just yell on TV and be an idiot. Knicks could 3 peat and he'll still be bitching about something bc thats what makes him money.
The idea that NY fans cant handle a rebuild is laughable. Knicks have been shit for nearly 2 decades and the team is still supported. Through Starbury, Francis, a no fucks given Zbo, Eddy Curry, etc. This is also a state that has teams like Mets, Jets, Bills (although thats upstate so doesnt really count) who have been historically bad but still supported. The only team thats "forced" to be good are the Yankees, and that's because they're the Yankees. The team with 27 rings or whatever, so greatness is expected but even then, are still supported
No other NY team constantly blows up their rosters because "omg ny fans are fickle, we need to win or we're doomed!" It's not a legit excuse for how poorly Dolan has run this team

Except you're going through a proper rebuild now and people are losing their minds that you didn't make the playoffs in year 2. Except people were losing their minds that a high risk high reward prospect was picked over guys with a lower ceiling. Being shitty for a long time is not the same as being patient in a rebuild. Being patient in a rebuild means that you acknowledge that one process may take 3 or 4 years to lead to playoff appearances. That's not something the Knicks fans have ever shown themselves willing to do. BTW - if Porzingis wasn't good this year, if he came out and looked bad, NY would be calling for him to be traded so much the roar would be deafening.

Melo was gone if Phil wasn't hired. That's what everything was reporting. That he was fed up and that Phil's presence and credibility made him feel like he'll continue on with the process in NY. I mean, he himself said that he was leaning towards LA and Chicago pretty heavily too.

If you want to run the triangle and that's the process we need to trust, then fine. Just hire someone that isn't a proven bum
Why should anyone be patient about shit coach picks ever. Like a dude who can't win and doesn't develop talent is shit no matter what the current status of the team is, sheesh.

If Dolan believes that the city has no patience for a rebuild so he has to make tons of rushed moves and sell out the future for any glimmer of improvement now that's on him, but inasmuch as he's right about the fans, it's also on the fans.
Dolan basically took a backseat, Let Phil rebuild from scratch and acquire tons of young talent and draft picks and the fan base is turning on the Knicks still. It sorta validates Dolan's thought process a little doesn't it?

No one wants Rambis hired. I've said a million times that Rambis is a poor head coach and should not get this job. But there's a difference between #anyonebutrambis and #scrapeverythingandstartover
Plenty of Knicks fans are at the second part of that.

This is stupid. Fans are dense by nature.
I know Warriors fans who swore they'd never support the team again when they traded Montae for Bogut.
Back in 2000 I was against trading Starbury for Kidd.
Fans don't know shit.

Still can't believe 538 thought Boston was the 2nd best East team...
So far everything is playing out just about as expected, though I thought Miami would win in 6 or 7 and now it's looking less likely. I wish they had Bosh, man.
First round has been so boring.

Melo gave an interview a month ago stating he had all the power. Now today Melo had to admit he isn't being consulted on the coaching Hire but he wants to be. He's probably isn't going to be consulted about FA as well. I really feel like a lot of the negativity going at phil in the media is as much Melo questioning "the process" in interviews as it is CAA feeding reporter stories. I said that before and I stand by it. For a long time CAA ran the garden and since Phil's been there they've had no say on anything. So they are using the media to feed rumors to make Phil's job harder and to try and influence to do what they want.
From what I've seen the fanbase is split between people who want the rebuild to become more drastic like trading Melo (which Melo has basically said he won't allow..... a few times) and people who are starting to grumble Phil needs to gtfo. Me I am one of the former but I've given up hope. Melo refuses to leave NYC.
I also think Phil is taking a longer term view at the knicks. His mantra of only wanting high character players to me is the surest sign Dolan isn't involved. Dolan always loved himself some bad boy players and Phil has made it a point to ship people like that out.

This is the playoffs thread right? Did Knicks get summoned into the playoffs and I missed it? Was too busy paying attention to the absolute fuckery that was the 2016 NFL Draft.

It's not like Jarrett Jack has anything better to do, with his ACL tear and all.
