"Worth the max" means nothing. There's only guys who deserve more than they're getting paid (Bron, Steph etc) With the cap exploding and the league having a salary floor, teams gotta spend.
So while I don't like Derozan, he will be fine at current max going forward and he'll have value as a trade asset in the future if he signs in LA.
This is the flip side to having a bunch of cap space but not getting a top 10 talent, you still have to spend that cash somewhere.

I'd take Derozan too even though I hate his game. I doubt he would leave the 6 for NY or LA though.
Also, Vogel is rumored to be headed to Orlando. Phil still Bison watching...

You just have to split the difference with the players on your roster. No point in talking about it, imo, aside from when teams do salary cap fuckery to cheat the players on their roster out of some money.

By P S Y C H Go To PostAny hope that Roberson develops an outside shot Gondo? He'll never be a knockdown shooter. But if he can get good enough to where the opposing team has to guard him (and I think that's possible) then that's almost as good.
By KingGondo Go To PostThis list is terrifying.I certainly wouldn't mind Ezeli.

If the money is being spent regardless more teams are gonna opt to add players to their roster as insurance or trade bait, it's just common sense, which is why we're likely gonna see really silly contracts this offseason cause there just isn't enough players for the amount of available money this offseason.

By KingGondo Go To PostSG is such a thin position. He'll still carry the stink of success from being a top-5 pick and contributing to a playoff run.Maybe. I still think its a bit high for what he has done. Even assuming he gets overpaid. 8-10 sounds about where I think he will get overpaid at.
Only takes one team, and I defy you to look at that list of free agents and tell me that Dion won't get paid.
Though if you are right, I wonder what idiot team throws a 10ish million dollar contract at Mr. Glass, Eric Gordon. Probably Dell Demps
A lot of RFA's are going to come away with 10-15 mil contracts this FA.
Beside GSW, you know who is going to have a real hard decision on who to keep this FA?..... Portland. They got 3 guys other teams are probably going to try to steal and they should throw big money at an elite big man

Waiters regular season was SO bad I don't think he's going to get stupid money, either. His contribution has really been minimal, and most basketball people will realise that.

You're taking the idea to the extreme but there's actually talk of that for Philly + LA so that they can package their pick for proven players.
Seems nearly every year guys are given contracts that seem out of control and with a historic jump in cap space, I expect this offseason to pretty whacky in that regard.
By Jonm Go To PostI mean I thought 4-5 until everyone started making the case about supply and demand and the teams with cap floors. How bad the waiters contract is probably will be less about $$$ and more about years.

for a team like orlando? absolutely pay the man--you've got some pieces that could really flourish in a defense first system
Thon Maker had the highest ever max vertical (36.5 in.) at the NBA Combine for a player over 6'11".jumpouttadagym ability.
The 19-year-old prospect measured in at just under 7'1" and finished in first place amongst the big men in lane agility, three-quarter sprint and the shuttle run. He's been one of the most hyped prospects due to his size and athletic ability, but he lacks strength and is still very raw on both ends of the court. Most scouts still indicate that he's a second-round pick, but that could change if he keeps impressing teams over the next month.
L.A. should take him with their 1st round pick,
By The Frankman Go To Postjumpouttadagym ability.NY should... oh...
L.A. should take him with their 1st round pick,
Thibs got $8M a year, Brooks got $7M. Coaches salaries have been going way up.
There's no cap on coach salaries, if you can spend $10M a year on Doc Rivers, do it. (Just don't let him be your GM, too.)

$30mil over 4 years would be $7.5mil/season and the 4th year is most likely always a team option. Sounds about right considering what Thibs/Brooks got.

It's an interesting move for the Pacers after they decided not to bring back Frank Vogel. McMillan has plenty of head-coaching experience with the Seattle Sonics in 2000-05 and the Blazers from 2005-12. He's also been an assistant with the Pacers since 2013. President Larry Bird seems to want more pace, so McMillan likely had that part of the game in his pitch to get this job. Interestingly, McMillan's teams ranked in the bottom three for pace seven times in his 12 seasons.wat
By Avon Randolph Barksdale Go To PostNate McMillan promoted to Pacers HC, per Woj.but why
By The Frankman Go To PostwatMcMillan had one of the slowest and most predictable ISO-heavy offenses during his Blazers tenure. If that's not what they wanted then they shoulda hired someone more offensively inclined. Maybe he's improved.
Mac was super ISO in Portland but had a better looking O in Seattle with Brent and Ray running point
Still an odd move
