Wow. Respect. But if he could have spoke up earlier and done this maybe he keeps both KD and gets Horford. I feel like the concern about his future had a lot to do with how things played out.

Russ is embracing the fuckery I see...
But good on OKC for keeping one of them

By blackace Go To PostKD's departure makes way for a big Victor contractAt this point we just need to hope Dipo and Adams become clear max players, because that's what they'll be getting paid.
This is less about loyalty and more about maximizing the $ he could get on his next contract.
Still, props to YNB for getting this done before the season starts and not putting the Thunder in limbo.

Westbrook will get traded before that player option happens , Ainge ready
Smart to get paid the max for two years, cap will only go up

Russ gets more money now then gets to re-enter free agency as a 10-year vet in 2018. Could be the first $200 million contract.

no one spends their whole career in phx
He's only 19, born in Grand Rapid, went to school at Kentucky. He has no frame of reference.
Oladipo was with Westbrook and probably talked to him a bit.
Victor Oladipo saves basketball in Oklahoma City, just like I expected.

I see it more as Russ cashing in and giving him those 2 years to grow and develop more as a leader on his own without having another superstar clashing with him and seeing if he can get a supporting cast to focus entirely on him. He has to know the flaws in his game, he is too good not to and if he chose to enter free agency into another team with a star, he might end up facing another Durant clashing situation.
He got a taste of it 2015 and has the opportunity to be the first option, it isn't a opportunity that many other places can offer him at the same price tag too.
We will see if OKC can actually have a supporting cast to help him in the next 2 years, and if Westbrook can actually take the step forward and grow, carrying the team on his back. Something he wasn't able to do in 2015 partly due to injury and his awful supporting bench.
That Westbrook Oladipo backcourt is going to be ugly. They need consistent shooters and they need to retool their roster to compliment him before they have to face trading him or losing him again. Too many raw, mediocre, or one dimensional players at the moment and if you can't fix that, say bye to Westbrook.

Westbrook seems like the kind of guy who has thoughts like "I wonder what Victor Oladipo thinks I should do."
I think there's zero chance I max oladipo when I've got Westbrook locked up for a few years
It shouldn't be that hard to get a better max worthy talent to want to play with ynot. Maxing dipo kind of really limits how good they can be.

@shun: we won 45 games in 2014/15 with Durant hurt and Ibaka missing tons of time too, along with a worse supporting cast than we have now.
That would have been good for the 5 seed last year.
Also: it's safe to say we'll be making moves to add shooting and better compliment Russ's strengths now that we know he'll be here.

Glad to see Brook staying with OKC for the time being. Him leaving for nothing would had been devestating for the franchise.

By reilo Go To PostThe extension makes him more tradeable.
I know this is to maximize his value but I really don't see him having signed this deal if he wasn't willing to give OKC every opportunity to keep him
By reilo Go To PostThe extension makes him more tradeable. It does. But I can't imagine we'd consider that until after this season. If this season goes badly and we aren't able to get a complimentary FA, we'll be in the same situation as this offseason.
It would look terrible if we traded him this season, especially since I'd imagine that we committed to keeping him for at least that long to convince him to extend.

Forever would know much more but possibly the quickest release in NBA 2k, only played a little over 10 games with the wiz last year and was banged up
Still though the way he was engaged despite coming to washington on such a low contract and the energy he gave off the bench and as a quasi-coach was really positive. I'm not sure what kind of player you're going to see but you're definitely getting a tough personality and locker room voice.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postfront like boston wasn't more hyped about the chances of getting ynot
Not at all.
Were Lakers fans really stoked on a possible YNB? I sure as fuck wasn't, but this is the only board I go to. A trade would have gotten us nowhere and sold our future. A FA signing would have been better, but it would have only been a first step. We still would have had to trade Russell and maybe some other cheap assets to compliment YNB and maybe get us out of the first round. Until the cream at the top starts to break up I'm down with developing our youth.
By Kuma Go To PostNot at all.Boston has been fronting for EVERY free agent for the last year.
Radio and people I've talked to don't really care about not trading for YN. We're not a star away from contending like Boston is and we don't know exactly what we have in our young guys just yet.
Now we can just focus on hoping there's a star among the handful of kids we have.

It's a stupid feeling.

He's a really solid 3 and D guy, some decent handles, and from what I know he's a great locker room presence. Good pickup, any team should be happy to have him. I was actually hoping we'd bring him back this year but I assume he wanted playoffs and this was before we signed like a million guards.

Hope is a powerful drug. lol
Even if we did accomplish our rebuild by adding the youth we did, it will be 2-3 more years before you can reasonably asses if that rebuild is worth a shit. Which I"m fine with. Nobody is beating the Warriors or the Spurs out west for that time period.
better sooner than later because you will also have to go through KAT in his prime and if the pelicans ever get healthy.
really need to get your boys to develop fast and strong.

I'm un-sold on clarkson. I think he's an "ok at best" guy. Russel... has a lot to do to repair reputations and get somewhere near consistent. Randle i think is a bust, for a pick that high. Think he'll be on the bench sooner rather than later. Ingram looks good, but he needs 2 or 3 year with NBA trainers building that frame. Ingram could spend the first 3 years playing 40 games a season.
There's stuff there worth building on. Worth persisting with. Talent and all that. But ... it needs a year or two to really figure it out.
We're a nice FA signing next summer away from being the clear #2 in the West imo. Sure you never know what the Spurs will do in free agency, but I'm very bullish on our future.
Just need the young guys to continue to progress around Russ.
