I'm kinda tired of people trashing Olshey, summer after summer. Every summer, someone has made the exact same argument (and hey, that includes me!): "this isn't someone that fits their needs", "this is an overypay", "they have no direction", etc. etc. But I think at this point we need to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Also, their main argument is that they needed a "longterm solve on center" -- given the alternatives that were available, rolling with Plumlee at his peanuts salary for another year is the completely right move. They also got Ezeli for absolutely nothing.
And saying that they should've attempted to do something special? Guaranteed, Olshey did. But what can you do if free agents don't even want to talk to you? Capspace is use it or lose it, and Olshey understands that. And, lol, they said they should've paid Luol Deng (got a better contract than Turner) or Marvin Williams instead.

That was the Real GM guy who said that about Deng i think, and i don't understand that at all either. The Turner contract is still very questionable, but i think everyone else they gave money is someone they can trade if they need to.
A lot of it is timing, Portland is the first "victim" of having to re-sign a lot of their guys under the new salary cap. Utah will (hopefully) be doing the same thing next season.

Right, that's a good point to bring up. Evan Turner, btw, is the oldest player on Portland's roster. Advocating to sign a completely broken down and soon-to-be 32-year-old and five years older than Turner player like Deng for the same price makes no sense.
Turner, however, does fit Portland's several needs, especially for the bench: he's a good ballhandler and can run an offense (Portland staggered CJ/Dame a lot because their lack of primary ballhandlers off the bench, which is also one of Crabbe's huge weaknesses) and he plays good wing defense (also a Portland weakness). Can he shoot? God no, but Portland is full of shooters, so saying they need to keep prioritizing shooting is kinda silly. To me, it's analogous to the Warriors getting Iguodala a few years back. It's not a great comparison because Iggy is a much better player, but their strengths and weaknesses are quite similar.
So if you think Portland was on the verge of doing something special, then you better come up with a realistic scenario of what "special" meant in this case.

One of Disney’s most underrated films, The Rocketeer, is finally getting the respect it deserves. The Hollywood Reporter says the company is prepping a brand new sequel/reboot called The Rocketeers and the new hero is an African-American woman.
Writers Max Winkler and Matt Spicer are penning the script and it’s being produced by Brigham Taylor (The Jungle Book) and, weirdly, athletes Blake Griffin of the L.A. Clippers and Ryan Kalil of the Carolina Panthers.

By diehard Go To PostAnyone listen to the Dunc'd on podcast? Man they went hard on Portland.I like listening to them but I am always hesitant to really put too much stock in analysis like this when guys are trying to analyze an entire league.
Like I really don't get their rationale for my team. They say they loved everything but knocked us to a C because we took Hield over Murray. Which to me just comes off like prospect homerism because they were both so high on Murray pre-draft. Making it seem like a chasm of distance between the two prospects. When really, it isn't.
Frankly a lot of their grades were just perplexing in general. You lose Kevin Durant and rationalize they get a B+?
By reilo Go To PostPortland's a F or F+ but Thunder are a B+? lolI can understand an F for portland. like.. it wasn't a good off season for them. it was p.bad. Not that they had any other real choices.
But you can't do that, and then give OKC a B+.
It's not like OKC had a bad off season THIS off season. The KD decision was sort of out of their hands. They put forward a really good presentation by all reports and weren't dismissed out of hand.
But it certainly wasn't good either.
By Kibner Go To PostDamn DeRozan!O/U how many times kibner says this during the season?
By P-SY Go To PostO/U how many times kibner says this during the season.I've already watched more Team USA exhibition games this year than I have Raptors games over the last two years. I don't anticipate this changing.
Kawhi Leonard will earn approximately $16.4 million this year from playing basketball. That doesn’t take into account any earnings from his deal with Nike’s Brand Jordan or any others sponsorship agreements he may sign for that matter.dam
He has more money than 99.9 percent of the people reading this sentence. He probably has a worse car, too.
In a recent (spectacular) profile by Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins, Leonard revealed that he spends his summers driving a rehabbed 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe to and from his two-bedroom apartment in San Diego.
"It runs," Leonard explains, "and it's paid off."

Yeah. The other guy says smart stuff but I can never fully take it seriously because it sounds like he's 17.

Like I don't care if dudes frequent prostitutes but there's something ultra pathetic about stiffing sex workers.
I just got an update on my ESPN app. Brandon Ingram has a reminder app that tells him to eat. They have him on a 5000 calorie diet

By shun Go To Postthere are so many assumptions and wrong things about that article but hey all that matters is that the jazz are a top 5 starting line up…Of course there are assumptions, it's August.
What is wrong?
well for one it backtracks and headlines a non-playoff team as a top 5 starting line up, then goes to say it is hard to see the jazz missing the playoffs.
The article leads gives the impression of how strong a starting line up is correlates to how good a team is, when that isn't the case nor is it a good metric since some teams best lineups are outside of their starting 5.
The way they conduct their ranking is also a numerical average from a panel of voters which isn't as good of an indicator of lineup ranking than ranking through providing a set of projected numbers per line up and comparing how effective each team can be.
Is there a point of ranking probably anything outside of the top 10 lineups because most other examples and their rankings don't really make sense and are pretty much a wash outside of probably the top 10-12. When you get to teams down there you have to wonder if it really matters when they say "This likely won't be Philadelphia's starting lineup for the entire season, but no matter how many changes they make the Sixers will indeed be the Sixers for yet another season. In other words, not very good." which pretty much applies to a most of the bottom teams in the league. Like you see teams that are fringe playoff teams or middle of the road teams ranked lower than teams who are lottery bound.
I don't see how you can do something as objective as rank starting line ups by making so many assumptions on team/player health and the lineups that teams will employ through the season.
