By etiolation Go To PostThe Arena situation makes Seattle not a real threat, but I'm sure Balmer will use them as leverage.
I'm not sure for what. LA won't fund an arena, the real estate giants out here will make it as hard as possible for Balmer to build anywhere near The Rams location, Nokia/Staples or The Forum. He'll have to at least mostly self fund the arena and the city doesn't care if he leaves.
He's got 8 years to figure it out, but the Westside doesn't have much if any possibile sites for a stadium. Carson has space but it's Carson and there's Anaheim.
I'm going to now proceed to make up shit in this thread and then when called out just say it was metaphorical or hypothetical.

By DY_nasty Go To Posthe'd be a turnover machine i thinknaw, blakes a better passer & has a better post game.
looking back… amare did literally everything better than blake
By giririsss Go To Postnaw, blakes a better passer & has a better post game.Better passer, sure.
Blake's post game is an ugly, but functional mess though. Even his faceup game isn't as good.
By DY_nasty Go To PostBetter passer, sure.Amare was better face up. But blakes better back to the basket.

By giririsss Go To PostAmare was better face up. But blakes better back to the basket.Shoulders are more rounded and he's got a great touch around the rim but he's gotta be the sloppiest premier big in the league when it comes to the post

By blackace Go To PostBlake plays better D and rebounds betterI think rebounding is a wash. DJ clearing space next to Blake means rebounding against the Clips is a roadhouse fight.
D? Amare might've been okay if Pringles never had him. He had great instincts coming out of high school.

DJ helps maybe but Blake is a decent rebounder

Feel its lame to shoot pull up deep threes up 50 with a minute left in the game, but the world doesn't watch Team USA to see them play humble.
By diehard Go To PostI'm always in the humble camp , K is right yall.
Agreed
1994 team ruined the USAs rep
By blackace Go To PostIt's hard to keep any intentions of moving a under wraps and if you want to move playing the super long con seems counter productive because you would need a spot to move to and that would add years to the move…
I"m assuming the long con. He bought the team saying he'd keep them here and he was on record just a few days ago that he would die as a los angeles clippers owner. I could be completely off and maybe he really does want to move to another LA location, but that doesn't mean it's going to be possible and if it's not possible, then he has reason to look elsewhere.
By etiolation Go To Postthe world doesn't watch Team USA to see them play humble. The world does not watch team usa, period.
Last time people did to some extent was 2000, because A. acccess to NBA footage outside of the US was still a bit more of a privilege than today, B. people were still witnessing a more fascinating talent gap than in the decade that followed, but it was already less of a thing.
My mother was aware of what the Dream Team meant during the Olympics in the 1990s. But it is not coming back, no matter how much worse top European basketball gets. It is not coming back. Not even with your best roster. You talk to her about Magic Johnson or Larry Bird, she knew they were basketball players. Stephen Curry? No clue. When Bill Simmons says Curry is a bigger phenomenon than Jordan was, he really has no idea how wrong he is. It's just he has kids.
I just ran a test with my girlfriend (who is not even representative since she lives with someone who stays up at night to watch the Knicks suck). Just told her names of basket-ball players, athletes and football players to see if she would recognize them. She knows Magic, she does not know Kevin Durant.
By Gabyskra Go To PostThe world does not watch team usa, period.Well in Japan your statement is flat out wrong... But that might be because basketball over here isn't that good yet..

By blackace Go To PostWell in Japan your statement is flat out wrong… But that might be because basketball over here isn't that good yet..I have no idea about Asia, all I know is about Europe. I find it very plausible that Barcelona had less of an impact there. Barcelona, the Jordan era of basketball literally is responsible for Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol and Tony Parker (i understand their sucess as one of the measures of interest in the sport here). And it seems like it's dying down a little bit. So, you would say that Curry or LeBron are more recognized today than Jordan was in the 90s, in Japan? I mean, we're talking Space Jam and Trainwreck here. The cultural pregnance is not the same.

50 million people watched Kobe's final game in China.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Post360 poster attempt up 50 brehsI don't like coach K trying to get the team to play boring. Flashy plays, showboating, and exerting dominance are some of the biggest reasons I watch the NBA. I want the spectacle. Dunks and blocks forever.
Coach K trying to reign in the cell jr's yall
Dunk over cars. Dunk over mascots. Dunk over teammates. Dunk over babies. Dunk over international competition. Dunk over retiree health insurance. Dunk over violence. Dunk over racism. Dunk over literally anything and everything possible.

that's fine...just don't complain when a guandong whogives a fuck #76 decides to throw his body into your knee out of spite
If someone tries to dunk on you, don't try to take a charge. That's lame. Go up and try to stuff that shit back in their face. Bonus points for catching the attempted dunk one-handed and giving a disdainful look or gesture (hello Mutumbo finger wag) towards the poor soul who attempted to crush your pride.
Blocks like that are like counter soul steals. That shit is my absolute favorite.

Here's a way to look at it, very imperfect, the number of occurrences of the word NBA in english-speaking books:
https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=NBA&year_start=1980&year_end=2016&corpus=15&smoothing=1&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2CNBA%3B%2Cc0
No data post-2008.
I doubt the kind of growth that happened in the 1990s has been replicated in recent years. I see a similar pattern in french-speaking books. The data is not very good for everywhere. I've been trying for a minute to find figures of people who watched the olympics final against Croatia in 1992, but I couldn't find it in the countries I was interested in.
