even at that the Bulls bench was horrible, Minny now has more guys that Thibs should be willing to play
By rodeoclown Go To PostWhat Thibs has said since taking the job leads me to think he's going to add vets to the bench to specifically not kill the young guys. Like, I think he's going to push for a guy like Jared Dudley or Luol Deng so that he has somebody steady to give LaVine and Wiggins a spell.
Deng would be the perfect vet for him too. Dudley not so much.
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostDeng would be the perfect vet for him too. Dudley not so much.the same whose Deng he almost destroyed in Chi?
By blackace Go To Posteven at that the Bulls bench was horrible, Minny now has more guys that Thibs should be willing to playIf Dieng moves back to the bench, I think he probably likes Gorgui, Bjelica and Bazz. (Bazz's work ethic is going to endear him to Thibs. Dude is a gym rat.) Bjelica finished strong and definitely has a skill set that he'll like, assuming he gets along better with Thibs than he did Mitchell.
By blackace Go To Postthe same whose Deng he almost destroyed in Chi?No, that was the trainers who called him soft for playing poorly on a broken leg before Thibs got there and on the team hospital that performed a failed spinal tap.

By blackace Go To Postand played him 38 mins per game regardless how hobbled he wasA good medical team would stop him from playing players minutes they can't handle. I don't think that will be a problem in MIN.

By blackace Go To PostI mean he looked like he could hardly move…so… can't blame the med staff 100You can put a large portion of blame on them if they had told him he was fine to play that many minutes. And, going by how they have treated players during, before, and after Thibs, they probably did so.
I mean how many people would say
"the dude looks crippled but the doctors said he was fine so I am going to play him 38 mins every game"
at some point you would think the coach would pull back some mins...

I'd actually like that hire. Vogel was able to navigate the Born Ready fukkery era, so to,Be fairly confident in him dealing with whatever happens here.
By blackace Go To PostI would say that the Wolves have a better bench than the Bulls ever had tho.. So we will see how Thibs does with mins and I feel like his job is safer than it ever was in Chi town…what BS is this, Thibs mostly had 9 deep squad provided.. especially at 2011 season
we had Taj + Asik came from the bench ffs, and mediocre PG always over-perform for us so we usually had nice PG play even with rose fucked and all that
ok maybe not that good but Taj alone made it better than lottery team bench
By blackace Go To PostI mean how many people would sayProbably most. In general, people trust trained professionals when it comes to things that trained professional was trained on and you were not.

I'm not absolving Thibs of all the blame; I just wouldn't place the vast majority of it on him.
By fertygo Go To Postwhat BS is this, Thibs mostly had 9 deep squad provided.. especially at 2011 seasonYeah, they just had a shortage of wing players. Great big depth, though, which is why they didn't play such heavy minutes. Even Rose didn't play a ton of minutes because Thibs is apparently magic with short+shooty guards. It was just Deng and then Butler.

Lakers wanna chase PG13 apparently.

Jim is on a self imposed timeline.
Indy didn't even tank to get PG, so picks won't entice them. He's got way too many years left on his deal.
I doubt either team would be dying to trade the #1 or 2... Number 3 might be had for a good role player though lol

We've gone through his Noah treatment at length, he destroyed Noah. Don't bother looking at his average mpg either, they're highly misleading. Through Multiple seasons Noah would spend like a month or two playing 40+ min almost every night, then break down or have injuries and have his minutes scaled back, but by that time the damage was done.
Minny is an objectively much worse team than Bulls ever were, and when KAT, Wiggins and Rubio don't play they're a bottom 3 talent level. Even without Rubio they've shown themselves unable to win games. That team being in playoff contention before the roster gets upgraded is a recipe for disaster.
I mean, maybe Thibs learned his lesson, but that dude is hyper competitive and intense at every moment in every game, I doubt his mind overrules his instincts during winnable games all that often.
It wouldn't happen anyway. As much as I want it to, PG is stuck in Indy. The whole point of the lottery is to hope you strike gold and get a generational talent which is exactly what PG is.
They got the hard part done but for some reason are incapable of building around him.

Its where the Iggy era Sixers were. Its not as bad since George is a legit star level guy and they have been drafting solidly but its tough otherwise. They need Turner to take a big leap forward to make another run at it

I coulda sworn he said this in 2013 after Dwight left but it was actually April 2014. He's got one year left lol.
I wonder if Bird fires Vogel would he then go for Blatt? Blatt is the only coach on the market that is arguably better than Vogel.

Not sure if a coach that runs an offense predicated on Princeton principles, which IIRC are more of a hallmark for a slow it down type offense (could be way off here), would fit Bird's stated desire of more points. Sounds like Bird wants someone who will go all in on the small ball lineup and make PG13 play the 4 a lot more than he has in his career to date.

Your right. This is probably "the straw the broke the camel's back" type of firing..... But the roster was trash way more than the coaching was.
Also demanding PG at the 4 after he spent a series killing it at the 3 and guarding the opponents best 2 ..... With no real help. Is just a asinine reason to fire Vogel

People keep calling Bird a great exec, but sounds to me like he's succeeding in spite of himself. I mean, he's about to become the guy who pushed both Carlisle and Vogel out...seems more meddling than you'd think.

Because I was curious to see exactly how Noah's minutes laid out, I used bball-ref and http://www.rapidtables.com/tools/line-graph.htm to create a line graph of his minutes during the Thibs-era:
Any good ideas for players to compare those minutes to? Even on a different team? Just give me a name and a time period. It doesn't take but five minutes to make one of these.
e: the data I pulled from bball-ref can be found here: http://pastebin.com/htn2U4He

For a center? Dwight Howard.
Can you normalize the graphs over a time period for games he actually played in?

Yea guys like Marc and Dwight. Other two way centers. That line graph shows what I noticed. He would spent stretches that lasted weeks or months of constant 38+ min games, even going up to 45 ish minutes and then have drop-offs with injuries and getting back into the lineup.
The first ~2 months of the 2010 and 2012 seasons were particularly egregious

Makes sense money wise for lakers and Walton for personnel reason but I doubt he becomes a featured scorer.
Also the rumor is McHale for Vogel
