Vogel Knick rumors while far from legit actually makes a lot of sense. His best Pacer's team ran the triangle, he's good at coaching defense which is Rambis main weakness.....beyond sucking as a HC.
Anyhow it's a interesting coaching candidate. They could bring Shaw back to the fold, keep Rambis as an associate. It could work with barely a compromise required by Phil.

Now if they keep this year's pick... Do they automatically lose next year's? Or is it another year of tanking to get free of their trade obligations?
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostNow if they keep this year's pick… Do they automatically lose next year's? I don't care what they say, they're going to be as bad as possible again next season if they keep the pick.
Vogel to the Knicks makes hella sense. There's no offensive mind they can get that's smarter than Phil anyway, even if someone like that actually exists in the NBA landscape which I don't really believe outside of maybe Pop.
They need a top tier defensive coach who connects with players and inspires trust and competitiveness. That's why Thibs would have been a good get. Unless they get a top 5 PnR PG they shouldn't abandon the system anyway, it's suited well for the talent that they have.
Rolo is solid in the low post. Anthony has shown himself capable of playing a really well rounded team game in the system. Porzingis is effective everywhere but not yet a dead-eye 3 point shooter. Williams has shown himself to be effective in the system too, and it lets guys like Lance Thomas and Galloway be effective even though they're really offensively limited. Just get better at it, be a solid defensive team for the whole season instead of half, don't quit on the coach, and upgrade the backcourt.
Lots of ifs but there's a clear cut plan in place for improvement.

If the Lakers are a bottom 3 seed next year than Luke is a bad coach. Our defense has to be better next year by virtue of Kobe being gone and Luke having a better defensive strategy than "man up". And our offense has to better allow for our 4 young athletic guys to play with pace instead of waiting for Roy Hibbert and Kobe to get involved in the offense.
By reilo Go To PostYou can be a better coached team and still finish Bottom 3.I was thinking the same thing. Even if the Lakers win the lottery, I'd expect them to finish at the bottom of the West, regardless of the coaching job Walton does.

Weren't you just saying Knicks fans are impatient lol.
Thunder finished with 50 wins in westbrook's second season and harden's rookie year withi durant at like year 3.
Obviously our guys aren't that good, but if we can't get to around 30 wins than we're not playing defense or running an offense tailor made for our talent.

impatient is when you're calling for the firing of people and abandoning course midway through the stated course.
I'm not calling for Luke's or even Mitch's firing, just don't see how being a bottom 3 team suggests that Luke is a good coach, at least in year 1.
By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostThunder finished with 50 wins in westbrook's second season and harden's rookie year withi durant at like year 3.This is the argument I see for the Wolves making a huge jump next year. You know, with Towns, Wiggins and Rubio. The Lakers don't have anybody as good as our top three guys.

You're not putting your ceiling at bottom 3 though, are u?
You should be a really solid team*
For 3 years, before Thibs destroys all 3 of those guys forever
The Lakers should be better next year. AT the very least, they should be to run a few teams out of the gym...plus dudes have a lot to prove all over (from the players, the coaches, and most importantly the FO). Another tank season could be the end of some dudes careers...so yeah.

Yep. If Cuban is smart..... He should try to pull a Kobe. Just tank on the low while celebrating a HOF career by paying that Star a shit ton to do his best on a losing team.

Larry Bird sounds like he's going to blow up the Pacers and rebuild, let Vogel walk. Not sure why he'd let Vogel go somewhere else unless he's told Larry he doesn't want to rebuild again.

Just catching myself up but the offseason just got a lot more interesting.
Pacers maybe blowing it up, Dirk opting out and Al and Lin seemingly willing to take pay cuts to stay and Batum wanting too as well.

more like just build, because he didn't put any effort into that teams roster last year

Yeah. I heard some murmurings that this vote was supposed to be "in good faith", as stated in the MOU. Meaning this vote is supposed to be about the merits of the vacation of Occidental Avenue and not anything else outside of that. But if you read the statements of the dissenters... they basically voted to protect the PoS, when the Port really has no real say or impact on this arena plan. Especially since Arena, Co. already did the research on the impact a new arena would have on traffic in SoDo, AND the Seattle Department of Transportation recommended that site.
It's corruption. Pure corruption. This makes TWICE we've been screwed out of an NBA team by our own politicians.

Hey can't accuse them of not having an open mind about the position. I think it's good to pick the brains of a lot of smart people to figure out various ideas on how to best improve the team. Hopefully they make the right choice in the end though.

If Vogel really does get canned and Phil doesn't end up with either Blatt or Vogel, that's a huge fuckup on his part.
I could see them passing on Thibs because he had a better offer in Minny and because any FO should be scared he will run your players into the ground and there was a lot of available coaching talent out there, but to miss out on Vogel and Blatt too that would be a pretty big fuckup.

I'll go further and say Vogel is the better choice of the two just because he used the triangle, has a history of preferring big front courts, and has over performed with mostly mediocre rosters. Hell his best season was when Shaw was on his staff using the triangle to run the offense.
Also he brings the number #1 thing missing in NY Defense.

I agree.
Honestly Rodeo, u should be a little worried about Thibs. The roster isn't good enough to coast into the playoffs, but it's also good enough to scratch and claw its way into a spot or at least season long contention for one. Meaning Thibs is going to be motivated to play guys obscene minutes to pull it off.
I would say that the Wolves have a better bench than the Bulls ever had tho.. So we will see how Thibs does with mins and I feel like his job is safer than it ever was in Chi town...
What Thibs has said since taking the job leads me to think he's going to add vets to the bench to specifically not kill the young guys. Like, I think he's going to push for a guy like Jared Dudley or Luol Deng so that he has somebody steady to give LaVine and Wiggins a spell.
