To be fair, you're basically an assistant to Phil if you take that job. Everyone on that coaching staff is
But yea, it's still insulting to be Rambis' assistant.

By Mamba Go To PostIt was posted today that during the entire season, Dwight ran 90 pick n rolls this year with Houston. 90. Think about that. He was one of the best PnR players all time and just decided a few years ago he didn't want to do it anymore even though it's obviously his best weapon. You can't put that all on him.
If he was truly all about winning, he would have put ego aside and become a super DeAndre Jordan. Instead, he tried to be post-up player which he's not that good at any more (if he ever was).
I'm not going to argue against pre-injury Dwight. That Dwight was a beast and his D was amazing. But the post version has been a mental clown and after watching him all year in L.A., I didn't see any desire. He pulled the same shit here and will do it in his next stop too.
The post up thing was like 2-3 years ago too. That was completely deaded after the Portland L.
By Colonel Nasty Go To PostI stand by Dwight being a good player but bad fit, a good coach will help him. He'll never be a post up threat but a good scheme could get him easy buckets and he still good defensively he was just tired covering up for the rest of the D and you could see it.
I mostly agree. I think the right coach, offense and teammates Dwights can still be very good, but if you don't have that it's a gonna be rough.
Wonder how much he gets paid this year.
Dwight could basically take Cody's entire roll here and THRIVE. But if he wants anything close to max money there are rocks that need kicking.
Like imagine MKG, Batum, Dwight on defense - that is the GOAT #ifhealthy modern defense

More dudes need to step into the leadership role whether they're the scoring machine or not. Simply put even good scorers need discipline and to be called out on their shit. The lack of this means crap ass team cohesion, passive aggressive sniping and just general disdain. While you can hate a dude and still be a team success, this only happens when the drive to win is everyone's focal point, so you can deal with a Kobe or MJ. Without that singular focus you're left dealing with a drunkard who doesn't seem to care only to make runs for himself, a center who seems too care free but ultimately has issues with the other guy and vice versa, and a bunch of other dudes who don't know where the fuck they stand in the midst of the dumbfuckery.
I mean, when the guy handling the PnR would rather take a contested step-back jumpshot or drive to the lane himself to fish for a foul than pass it off to you, what are you supposed to do?
PnRs are two-man games, and Harden was clearly concerned about getting his all year long.

By Moris Go To PostI think LA would more or less welcome him back and that scares the shit out of me.I don't see that happening at all.

Yes, I can. Let's not ignore that Harden is a willing passer. Dwight has out right refused to run the PnR. It's not the system, it's him dictating this. It was a problem in LA and Houston. He has told the coaching staff he doesn't want to run it because he wants to post up. He runs the PnR less often than Plumlee.

Its really easy to blame Dwight, but if you look at how Harden also ran every capable point guard out of town then its not too hard to see that he's Lebron West with how he smothers a real offense and has personnel influence to reflect it. Just 90 PnR over an entire season is deliberately going out of your way to avoid a guy. That number screams 'fuck off' from someone with a usage rate as high as Harden's.

What I'm saying is Dwight won't run the PnR for any team, any coach, any players. He doesn't want to run it. I recall him stating as much years ago that he doesn't want to do it. He wants to post up. He's a moron.
I'd be more curious to find out how many PnR situations were available to Dwight more than anything. You can't run a PnR if the team doesn't run one for you. His back issues might also be preventing him from being super effective at it.

He ran 90 PnR this season. Total. I wasn't saying he scored 90 times off it. That's the amount of times he ran it. He specifically tells coaches he doesn't want to run it.

but I think legit functional offense is something that ceased to exist in Houston after last year's playoffs - and the town was always showing symptoms by getting rid of every good pg they could find. Also, all of the younger bigs (aside from Capela) generally not giving a fuck and throwing their own potential earnings away for the chance to leave... I mean, I've NEVER seen anything like it.
I certainly don't think dwight is hyper competitive. He's obviously competitive to even be feasible in the NBA. You just don't make NBA finals as the best player on your team if you don't care at all.
And yeah, that back injury Dwight got, and subsequent knee issues... that's how you kill big guys careers. Force them to play through ankle/knee/back issues. Cause one just leads to another and they just pile up and never get right.
Dwight not playing the PnR had as much to do with the Rockets team and Harden as Dwight. I think Ty Lawson was there to try and engage in more PnR stuff with dwight... but that blew up. But he also has certainly tried to have more of a post game. And I think it's important that he has A post game. But you don't need to run it 5 - 7 times a night. Just once or twice.
My problem with any team picking up Dwight now is that he's going to want the max. Are you going to get a max type player out of him? Like max Production? And you need spacing around him. Like we all made fun of $120 MILLIOOOOOOOOOOOOON but... that may have been the best PF that has ever been paired with Dwight.
And so you're now saying, Lets max 30 y.o. Dwight, who has had a lot of WARNING SIGN injuries for big men, and structure a roster around him. It's just not an attractive prospect. I mean, if you can get Orlando Dwight, hell yeah. But he hasn't been that guy for a LONG time now.

Dwight was trash in the post all damn year in LA. And yea, his back was injured, but then he shouldn't have been pouting that he wasn't getting iso's in the post then.
Steve Fucking Nash blew up on Dwight over and over and over again that year because he wouldn't set picks and do his job. Dwight's been a grown ass clown since like his last two years in Orlando.
If some respected figure, Magic Johnson for example, told Dwight that if he wants to win he needs to put 2 more hours per day into the gym and film room for the next 4 years. Dwight says "fuck that". That's why Dwight's never winning shit.

Oh, I agree. His personality allows him to isolate people, and be isolated, from organisations. I don't think he's the easiest guy to "coach" or be "in charge of".
And when people are still talking about potential when you're 30.........

Vet min Along with the agreement to never expect a post pass. He would also need to publically state Kobe was right and that he's a man baby. Then we can trade h8m by Christmas.
