By Omzz Go To PostLook at that timely fire when the coaches got sweeped upLakers FO with late decisions yet again.
I don't get the firing unless players turned on him (likely) or they have the sense free agents want nothing to do with Scott.
So now the coach search begins....again.

Who is paying the most coaches not to coach for them right now? I feel like its the lakers but I'm not sure
Thibs wanted BBall Ops controll which LA wasn't interested in giving up at all, so he was never an option. LA missed out on Brooks but.....Brooks is Brooks so I'm not really mad that he's unavailable.

He's great at developing youth though..... He might of done LA wonder
There's really no great known commodities. Lakers better find a gem of an assistant. Problem is they're like the Knicks pre-Phil, they don't have the balls to take a risk.

Maybe but I think Brooks youth development is a bit overrated as of now and he's a terrible Xs and Os coach. I'd rather LA sign an unknown than go with Brooks tbh.
I guess Walton is an option.

phil recently said he's planning on staying in NY the full 5 years. I think this is why Scott got fired this year instead of next, no reason to wait till Phil has an out if he's not going to exercise it
I wasn't able to catch the rockets/warriors game. Is curry out for the rest of the playoffs?

Knicks problem is Nepotism..... Its still is under Phil but there is a certain self awareness to it that makes it a little more bearable in my opinion. He knew he gave fisher a chance cause he knew him but realized that was a mistake and adapted quickly and fired him. I think Phil's hoping to be able to do the same with Walton (the rambis rumors don't make sense because if he was going to be kept as HC they should of announced it by now instead of letting the media crucify them with every rumor possible) but from a position of knowing he needs to clearly be more involved from jump. In hindsight it really is odd for arguably the best coach ever in the NBA (and a top 3 regardless) to have felt that he needed to give a rookie coach space. I think that is a reason he is seeking a rookie coach, Phil realized he needs to take a more hands on approach and a vet coach is going to not want or need that.
I also don't think Phil staying in NY is why they fired Scott. Scott sucked at his job, but I think Kobe supported the hire so he was kept through the season. Now that Kobe is gone they could find somebody who sucks but isn't going to be hated by the team just as easily.

Well his assistants at least. I know at least a few of his guys can claim to have helped develop KD, Russ, Harden, Ibaka, and can add KP from their one year in NY with Fisher. A lot of that is scouting but still that is better resume than most and its very likely those same assistants are going to follow him in DC regardless of who is brought (or kept) in to become NY's HC. Brooks is a great coach for a young team (which is why him being in DC is stupid) and the Lakers would of been a good move for both parties.
By Kabro Go To Post#beckyhammonI mean it really can't be worse than their last two or three hires.
Do it mitch
Although I feel like some players on that team might not have the maturity to handle it professionally.
If I'm the Lakers I'm targeting Messina or Blatt no question. Probably in that order. I think those two are the best of what's still available; maybe also include Walton in that conversation. There are still good options out there.
Woj says:
Possible candidates to replace Scott could include Golden State assistant Luke Walton, former Rockets and Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, UConn coach Kevin Ollie and San Antonio Spurs assistant Ettore Messina.That's... actually not a bad list.
By shun Go To Postmike woodsonNow that's a terrible list.
is Ollie really thinking about leaving UConn? A boy of mine who went to school out there makes it sound like Ollie runs that school and is a local celebrity.

I agree with Kado. Would love to give Messina an opportunity to be a headcoach, but they're all pretty solid.

Yeah that's a surprisingly really strong list.
Don't think I would hate any of those choices. I do still think Walton needs a little more time and probably would be wise not to jump head first into the difficult maze of a rebuilding franchise in frigging LA of all places. Guy has money, be smart and take it slow and wait for the optimal oppurtunity like Kerr did.
JVG seems like the safe pick, Messina has always intrigued me and I'm curious how he eventually pans out.
Scott was setup to fail but like ya know.... He was an awful coach his whole career so it's whatever. It's almost like someone hooked him up with a 2 year gig to just coast and get paid.

You can't hire a brand new coach just one year before Phil's supposed to come into town and take over as POBO. If he was going to leave NY next summer and come back to LA and take his place next to Jeanie, they would ostensibly leave the coaching search up to him at that time.
Which means they keep Byron on for one more year, then axe him when Phil comes. With Phil deciding to stay in NY, they don't have to worry about that and can axe him now and make more long-term decisions immediately .
That's essentially the thought process that makes the most sense to me with all the rumors of Phil joining Jeanie in LA next summer swirling around the past month or so.
Phil's issue is that he wants to coach. But he can't physically commit to that long term, probably not even for a year tbh. So he wants an extension of himself on the floor. Riley did that with Spo and tried to do that with SVG before that. Morey's done that with everyone. Hinkie did that with Brown. Cuban did that with Carlisle to a lesser extent.
Fisher's going to get another opportunity soon as an assistant if he wants it. Probably either on Scott Brooks' bench or on Walton's wherever he goes (unless that's NY obviously).
As for LA, honestly, I just want Jimmy gone. We can keep Mitch, he was a rock solid GM before Jimmy took over. Fire Jimmy, keep Mitch - maybe even promote him to POBO - and find a really good assistant to coach this team. Messina, Hammon, Walton I'd be down with.
Not interested in Ollie or JVG.

Basically that's putting all your chips in the Walton basket. Don't see that happening. Unless, Shaw?
On another note. Russell came into the year looking like a sure fire bust who was deathly allergic to simple plays and the paint. He ended the year looking damn good and putting most those fears to rest. How many young PG's are gonna develop under Scott before people give him a modicum of credit in that regard?
He should have been fired, of course, but all things considered, I'm damn happy with Clarkson's and Russel's development from their first month in the league to now.
+Walton and Fisher
All but Walton / Rambis are for sure available
I think Russ would have done better without the manning up tactics...
Scott did his job well. It was clear he was just there to ease Kobe out of this whole thing which was really a harder job than people think. A+
Now in terms of...ya know, winning games, developing guys? Lol fuk naw, so good move by the FO.
I'd go after Kevin Ollie. UConn job is good but it doesn't feel as life long as Kentucky and Duke.

Amyome on that list would be fine especially since by dream of the van gundy bros calling games doesn't look like it's happening soon
Dario Saric "intends" to join the Sixers this offseason, according to international basketball journalist David Pick.I can't believe INFINITE TANK MODE might be over.
Less than two weeks ago a report surfaced that the Sixers planned to buy out Saric's contract in order to bring him over for the 2016-17 campaign, and the latest development will only help to fuel that fire. Brett Brown was previously confident that Saric would come to Philadelphia for the upcoming season, and though he can play either forward spot, the Sixers will have to figure out where he fits in a frontcourt that currently includes Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid.

with 4 starting 4/5s?
By blackace Go To Postwith 4 starting 4/5s?Well the first step is acquiring talented pieces, then it's the GMs job to make the pieces fit in a way to form a unit. The coaches' job is to turn the unit into a team. They'll have to draft with a new focus and trade a few bigs for guards/forwards, but there's light at the end of the tunnel.
I can't believe the nightmare is over.
i'd be stoked with any of those picks.
they are huge upgrades to the last 3 we've had.
