A farewell to Smitch:
“One day when I leave here and the next guy comes through the door and sits in this chair," Mitchell said, "I want him to be able to say that the guy who coached this team before taught them how to be pros, taught them how to work, taught them how to play hard, taught them how to play together, taught them how important it is to put your work in every day. I don't want another coach coming in here and saying, 'Well, s—, they didn't learn nothing.' You know what I mean? That's a direct reflection of me and my coaching staff if a coach comes in and feels that way. I don't want that.”
By Dipro Go To Postif there is a god, celtics will win the lottery. For comedy factor, either Boston or Denver winning can't be beat.
For the sake of Knux, I hope Philly wins.

with the lakers falling to 4th too
Lakers only have a 55.8% chance of keeping their pick. If they miss, man it's gonna be a long road back.

Yeah it's basically a coin flip for our future.
Unknown needs to honor my 1 month avatar bet with him, now that the Hornets did better(!!!) than the Knicks.
I hope Toronto wins the draft lottery, with a 1%(!!) chance of winning.

if the lakers lose their pick this year then the magic get their 2018 pick
By blackace Go To PostYou know the Suns have never had a number 1 pickPhoenix is definitely a team I'd like to see win. I'm so used to the Suns being good, it's weird seeing them in the lottery. They don't belong here.
By blackace Go To PostI mean you have the next draft if you lose your pick…either way you are losing this pick or next years?
If they lose this year's pick, they lose their 2018 pick too. If they keep this year's pick, they keep their 2018 pick.

I thought our 2018 was gone regardless and our 2017 was up for grabs if we lose this year?
EDIT: 2017 is 1-3 protected too? Does that depend on this years pick?
By Fenderputty Go To PostI thought our 2018 was gone regardless and our 2017 was up for grabs if we lose this year?Yeah, the 2017 pick protected if they keep this year's. League rules prevent a team from trading their pick in consecutive years and the protections on those picks are such that the Lakers basically have every incentive to be as miserable as possible again next year.
EDIT: 2017 is 1-3 protected too? Does that depend on this years pick?
2018 first round draft pick to Orlando
If at least two years after the L.A. Lakers conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia, then the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Orlando protected for selections 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019; if the L.A. Lakers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia by 2017, then the L.A. Lakers will instead convey their 2017 2nd round pick and 2018 2nd round pick to Orlando [L.A. Lakers-Orlando, 8/10/2012]
Even with Nash, Kobe and Dwight on their roster, I still don't see why they thought it'd be a good idea to have such low protections all the way into 2018. Like they couldn't have made that trade with the assumption two of those three would still be in the league? Even Dwight is on a severe decline and he was the youngest of them and he might be a bit player three years from now given his health issues.

I believe this mostly hinges on Buss's belief that he can land players in FA even though he's shown no ability to do so.

So if we lose our pick this year to Philly, we keep 2017 but lose 2018 to Orlando protected 1-5 and 2019 regardless. If we keep our pick this year 2017 is protected and 2018 is a question mark until 2017 is over. If we manage to be so bad we keep this years and next years pick Orlando only get 2nd rounders.
its official, Ernie is heading the next coaching choice and is going to be the one to decide free agency future for the Wiz this summer.
*shrug* it's not disappointment, it's beyond that
*shrug* it's not disappointment, it's beyond that
It'll be interesting to see how our playoff performance impact's KD's decision. We have to at least make it a series against the Spurs to show that we're close to contender status. Anything past that is gravy unless we get to the WCF and get obliterated, which is a possibility.
By knux-future Go To PostJamal Murray future or some shit.
we will not get a top 2 pick
There's a 44% chance you get our pick as we slide to the 4.
There's a 46% chance you get a top two pick of your own and a 64% chance you get a top 3 of your own.
There's a 28% chance you get a top 1-3 pick of your own and our 4th.
There's a 20% chance you get a top 1-2 pick and our 4th
There's an 11% chance you get the first and our 4th..

We are not getting a top 2 pick. The curse of Len Bias is real.
In a perfect world, I will like the Lakers and Celtics have the top 2 pick.
I mean this is nitpicking, but the lakers inability to find even ONE all star caliber player in the draft (even via draft day trade) during all of the years that the lakers were playoff teams really doomed this team to stops and starts instead of the longevity that the Spurs had. By finding Tony/Manu/Kawhi they were able to seemlessly transition through 3 eras with Timmy as a constant while the lakers had to go into full rebuilds every time their core ran their course.
Bynum doesn't count because we got him after the tear down and not during our playoff runs, which didn't give him the time to develop so that the transition was seamless. Equivalent to finding tony and manu AFTER Robinson retired and finding Kawhi after tony and Manu did.

If Thabeet was a "you can't teach height" and Cabocolo was "two years away from being two years away" what the fuck is Thom Maker? A good argument why the NBA needs legit minor league teams?
Have you guys heard anything about the Ball brothers out of Chino Hills High ( The city in which I reside). All committing to UCLA?
The 76ers might fire head coach Brett Brown and promote Mike D'Antoni, according to a report. That is so fucking weak. Brown has done a fantastic job under the worst imaginable circumstances and now when INFINITE TANK MODE under Hinkie is finally over you might dump him?
Ken Berger of CBS reports, "if D’Antoni, the Sixers’ associate head coach, gets offers elsewhere — besides Brooklyn, he could be a fit in Washington or Phoenix — then Colangelo may be tempted to let Brown go and bump D’Antoni up to head coach in order to keep him, sources say." Brown's job was thought to be safe, but it sounds like we could be in for some twists and turns in Philadelphia. Stay tuned.

He could be standing right in front of Phil and I would bet money he somehow twisted Phil's words - he's that much of a sensationalist hack

Phil Jackson: "Only people I know will probably be involved in the interview process." He says Kurt Rambis is a candidate for the job.
Al Iannazzone about 34 minutes agoRambis is the only guy he's promised an interview at this point. While it's distressing that he's even being considered, he will interview others at some point because he ain't about the second guess shitstorm that will arise later if he doesn't.
Phil said Kurt is the only one he has promised an interview. He hasn't called anyone else.

Here's Phil Jackson on his approach to the coaching search: "Only people I probably know will be in the interview process. I will reach out to make connections to some people. But I've been in this position, in the NBA over 50 years, and I've seen a lot of situations where coaches end up coming in without simpatico with the general manager and those things don't work well. So someone who has compatibility with what I do as a leader would have to be in sync with what we do." Phil then addressed the media: "A lot of your speculations that people have thrown out really have very little bearing on what we do."

Not only that, but if the Bulls had as stringent of a criteria for a coaching candidate after Doug Collins as Phil Jax has with this Knicks hire, his younger self wouldn't be qualified.

He didn't get along with West either.
I'm not even sure I'd want the No.1 pick this year. Having to choose between Ingram and Simmons seems like there is a huge option for pure fuckery and flops.
No. 3 seems just as bad because of the amount of love Bender is getting.
