The defunct Sonics.
I tried rooting for other teams but nothing has stuck, so now I just follow players I like and all Seattle born players..

By P S Y C H Go To Postlong time no see, hopefully the unemployement period doesn't last bro!
Thanks man. I've put my info at 4 temp agencies in San Antonio the past 2 days, so I'm hoping that I can get something to tide me over part time until I get a full time job. My dream scenario is to get a job with the City. The pay is fairly decent, but they have a kick ass tuition reimbursement (90% even for grad school classes!!!) and good health care + vacation days

Apparently winning is less valuable when you don't do it their way and VORP championships are more valuable than real championships.

Because at the time he was. I'm fine with people that put him above Kobe - but at some point the "Kobe rubs some people the wrong way" thing stops being an endless slack.
His individual + team accomplishments + skill set make him a top 5 player ever. Easily. When you add up the resume and factor in the completeness of his skills. People can say top 10 if they want just because they don't like the guy.
But his accomplishments can only be diminished so much because someone doesn't like his style before it's like "ok, that's enough".
well yeah, magic was the greatest laker ever, until kobe came along.
during the 3peat it was shaq's team and not once did West call Shaq the greatest laker ever.
heck, He (West) said early on during kobe's early years that he thought kobe has the talent to be the greatest.
He was asked once more a few years ago and he still thinks Kobe's is.
people can spin this all they want, but the consensus is unanimous among former lakers and buss Family,
Kobe's the greatest and i tend to agree with them. I started watching Magic in his peak and i watched his battles in the playoffs.
the only reason i put Magic below him is that he could've been the undisputed king, but he left the game fairly early, accomplishing many things, but he could've accomplished a whole lot more if he didn't retire the first time.

By P S Y C H Go To Posthe's top 12.
You think a guy who went 2-6 in the finals despite team hopping from one all star collection of talent to the next and holding multiple franchises to his primadonna will is ranked above him. that's textbook case of my point.

Well fuck. Daps then. There still aren't 11 people ahead of him by any 10,000 foot way of looking at it.
Kobe's in the section with bird and magic, unless, again - you diminish his accomplishments. If you wanna be nostalgic, he's not there and he's right behind TD.
Putting him in the category with guys who won 1 or 2 and made 10 all star appearances instead of guys who won 5-6 and were lifelong all stars is exactly my kind of point. It's just the "when Kobe accomplishes shit it's not worth as much" argument.
tbf, i think i've heard a lot of magic's teammate place magic at #1 and kobe at #2.
i also heard snoop on radio today and he places magic at #1.

I was just going through some names in my head and I came up with 12 names off the top of my head in "the best ever" category.
1.curry(duh)
2.mj
3.kaj
4.magic
5.duncan
6.russell
7.shaq(the most dominant player i've ever seen)
8.kobe
9.wilt
10.hakeem
11.bird
12.lebron
For me I break it up into sections.
MJ is alone at the mountaintop
Russell/KAJ/Wilt
Magic/Bird/Kobe/Duncan
Shaq/Hakeem/Lebron
West/Oscar/Curry if he wins the chip.

By P S Y C H Go To PostHow are Hakeem and LBJ in the same category as Shaq??
I don't mind splitting bird/magic
And Kobe/Duncan/Shaq. But Shaq definitely goes last there. For as dominant as he was during that Kobe/Shaq stretch. He, perhaps more than anyone else in the last 20 years always got to play with all star and HOF caliber talent and his injuries/weight/whatever were real obstacles to the kind of success he should have had.
I mean, how do you spend an entire career with penny, then Kobe, then Wade, then Nash/Amare, then Lebron, then Boston big 3 and only have sustained success with Kobe.
How do you go on the Nash Suns and make them from a contender to a non-playoff team? How do you go on Cavs AND Boston and they do worse than they did the year before.
to this day, how a player like shaq existed makes no sense to me. that combination of size, athleticism and skill shouldn't be possible.

By P S Y C H Go To Postto this day, how a player like shaq existed makes no sense to me. that combination of size, athleticism and skill shouldn't be possible.Shaq was a rare player.. closest player I can think of to Shaq as far as size, athleticism and skill is Pat Ewing.
By P S Y C H Go To PostSeriously, describing Shaq is like describing a fucking game of thrones character or a superhero.
In his prime, yeah. Thing is that the 6-7 year stretch is enough to make him a top 10 player. But all of the squandered years have to go against him. Phx going from contender, to trash, to contender again right after he left was pretty damning I think. The modern NBA passed him by more than anyone else, there's no way he could sustain the pace of play and the ability to defend so many high PnR's.

kobe takes are either full superlatives, or full hate. What is it about basketball in particular that draws out such stark opinions. You can call kobe narcissistic and selfish, while still acknowledging he had a great career and an impactful final game.
and lol that deadspin article. It wasn't even interested in making an argument.
and lol that deadspin article. It wasn't even interested in making an argument.
I think almost everyone in here at least knows he had a great career and a crazy last game... Where you rank him in history differs but I see very few people deny that his career was insane..
By blackace Go To Postis squandered years code word for injuries?
Some years were squandered, some were not. 1994 and getting wrekt by Hakeem is squandered. Like all finals losses are, especially when you're the one getting shown up. 2007 and getting swept in the first round after winning the year before to a bulls team with no all stars? That's squandered.
All the years he had Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones with teenage Kobe where he wasn't able to get a crack at the finals was squandered. Yea. 2010 when he had Lebron (all they gave up was Wally for him) and added Jamison and couldn't beat Boston? That was a squandered opportunity for sure.
I don't blame him for not winning in PHX, I just think it's a case study of how bad he would have been in the modern NBA and somewhat damning that the drop off was so massive. Or for what happened in Boston.
It's that he never had to spend 3-4 years rebuilding. He spent 20 years surrounded by all stars because he hopped around so much. More talent equals more squandered opportunities.
Kobe spent his absolute prime on a hopeless team. Wade spent his absolute prime on a hopeless team. Melo spent several years of his prime on a bad team. Not everyone gets the career-long talent Shaq has gotten to play with.
