By Jonm Go To PostWhat in particular has he said that makes you think he is taking credit for everything? I have to say, I read the NYTimes piece and it seems the guy clearly is smart enough to know he isnt the smartest guy in the room and defers more often then not but has signed off on some pretty smart calls with trading Monta, Not trading Klay for Love, firing Jackson and asking the right questions when people were questioning whether to keep Curry.
Had any of those gone a different direction you aren't looking to have the best regular season ever.
Joe Lacob: Warriors Light-Years Ahead Of Every Other Team In Structure, Planning
The Golden State Warriors could break the all-time regular season wins record as they work to defend their title.
Joe Lacob believes the Warriors' results are a product of their master plan.
“The great, great venture capitalists who built company after company, that’s not an accident,” he said. “And none of this is an accident, either.”
Lacob believes the Warriors are playing in a more sophisticated way than the rest of the NBA.
“We’ve crushed them on the basketball court, and we’re going to for years because of the way we’ve built this team,” he said. But what really set the franchise apart, he said, was the way it operated as a business. “We’re light-years ahead of probably every other team in structure, in planning, in how we’re going to go about things,” he said. “We’re going to be a handful for the rest of the NBA to deal with for a long time.”
...
I was at the Warriors Parade the past summer as well and I watched the talk they gave and Lacob still managed to find a way to piss off people in the East Bay by saying and acting like he was a majority reason as to why any of this happen, acting as if this is some kind of redemption and vindication parade. Not only that but rubbing in the fans faces and keeping them reminded that even though we win in Oakland, we'll still take the team away from you.
I like the throwback The City Jerseys and their implementation, but its still a reminder that many fans will lose their chance of watching a game live and even celebrating again because of a push for a move that will alienate more fans who can't begin to fathom the exponential rise in prices if you live across the Bay Bridge. It only does good for the richest who live in SF, and the rich who live in the south bay Silicon Valley. Shit like Under Armor giving away pairs of signed Curry Twos to the audience for publicity, only to give it to those sitting in the very front who can already afford a pair.
Publicly inviting Rhianna to a Warriors game, and then publicly acting disgusting and asking to change seats and move after finding out she wasn't rooting for the Warriors.
Look will it kill him to have some kind of humility? Instead of act like money can win everything. His larger the life personality can be very grating and it isn't just HIM that made this happen. It isn't just skill. A lot of our success comes from luck and finding the right pieces and choices at the right time.
By reilo Go To PostThe problem isn't just that the arena is crappy, the problem is that the concourse and means to get to it are absolutely dreadful.
Basketball is a winter sport, and now imagine waiting in line for 45 minutes outside in the cold and rain because the entrances to Oracle arena and the concourse is an absolute failure in engineering. It's pinched at 4 entrances and absolute nightmare to get inside.
And it's kinda crappy inside as well lol.
But its not like the concourse and means for the San Francisco arena is any better and it has even bigger issues to face rather than just the design and layout of Oracle.
I've been to Oracle plenty of times when I could afford it as a student and it always seemed fine to me. I don't know any other basketball arena tho.
I find the place and the fans up in the noseblood seat endearing.
Maybe I'm in the wrong for being angry. Maybe I just do not know better as an international student and international fan.
I'm just accumulating the opinions I have gotten from the people I meet here as well as the times I have seen/heard the guy and base my opinion off that.
I appreciate and I love everything that the staff has done, but the guy is expecting us to see him as his savior as if he was some sort of prophet leading us to victory.
I have copies of the Japanese dub of Game of Thrones and Hannibal and Breaking Bad.

By shun Go To PostBut its not like the concourse and means for the San Francisco arena is any better and it has even bigger issues to face rather than just the design and layout of Oracle.Going to Warriors games even at Oracle arena is crazy expensive as long as the Warriors are this good. We haven't seen the SF arena because it hasn't been built yet, and there's no way they'll fuck that up.

Beer at Oracle for a Blue Moon is $13 before tax, btw.
But it will be at least as expensive but likely much more so in San Francisco not only because of the location but also because of costs to maintain and make back investment.
The prices will still be high even if the Warriors lose if they play in San Francisco. I assume that food is expensive at arenas everywhere. I can barely afford to go to games anymore here since noseblood section used to be like 20-40 USD and have spiked in price.
I can only fathom the pricing the tickets will be in San Francisco as well as the added cost to pay for BART or go through the Bay Bridge toll. Even worse for some people like me who do not drive and cannot get a way back to the East Bay after a certain time without paying for a lot of money.
Have they scrapped the designs already planned for the arena?

Naw, beer in Portland tops off at $9 for the local really good stuff. At Oracle, you're paying $13 for the national crappy shit. The beer was cheaper at the Giants stadium for equivalent selection.

I guess he is kinda a dick outside of work but I guess I can't knock him too much, he has been an integral part of the process in putting together an incredible organization and the product on the court.
It is a bit unfortunate he isn't a little more humble about it but I guess it is what it is. But it does kinda suck because everyone else seems to be respectful and mostly good guys. Certainly would love to have him implement his philosophy and throw his money around in New Orleans.
Obviously they were demoralised since this was the first home game I haven't attended in a week

By Jonm Go To PostWTF? How can you hate on your owner lol. I guess you liked being a middling team or something?Because he's a greedy fuck who wants to move the team to SF.
Also there's no way anyone should be thrilled with a new stadium/prospect of moving after the shitshow that is the Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.
They're moving it to Mission Bay near the Giants stadium. It'll be just fine there. Going to and leaving a Giants game isn't a hassle at all and quite convenient since it's near Muni and Caltrain as well.
And like I said, Oracle arena is a giant dump.
And like I said, Oracle arena is a giant dump.
Eh not putting money into Oracle, moving the team to SF, building a new stadium, allowing 80 and 880/nimitz to be shit, it's all symptoms of the same fucking problem with the Bay Area. Not to mention the continual disruption/acquisition of what used to be "low class" entertainment. That whole move just sours me for all sorts of reasons.
There is no way to save Oracle arena. I am sorry, it's a dump. The concourse to get inside the arena is one the worst architected things I had the displeasure of experiencing. The arena just isn't well designed and no amount of money putting into it could save it. It's also in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and it can't be repurposed for a multituse venue for any decent concert experience.
The absolute wrong decision would've been to try and make it work at Oracle. If you wanna discuss keeping the team in Oakland versus SF, then that's a different discussion.

I'd rather it be in Oakland but any new venture will allow them to cater to a completely different dynamic than what made places like that (despite the failure of architecture or whatever) awesome. Candlestick was pretty shit too but the whole change over ensured that the demographic it was designed around was an entirely different set of people than actual fans. I'm pretty cynical and I get shit needs changing but the fact is a lot of the changes lately in that area are for the worst.
No Lakers fan cares that they're in downtown LA and Staples Center today than at The Forum where Magic ran the show.
No Blazers fan cares that they're sitting in the Rose Garden seats rather than the Memorial Coliseum where Drexler and Terry were going to the Finals.
And as sorry and morbid of a franchise the Nets are, the one silver lining they do have is that they're blessed with a world class arena at Barclays right now instead of playing in the middle of nowhere of New Jersey in the dump of the old arena. If anything, it's like the one worth that franchise has to potentially find a new owner that'll turn it around.
In ten years when Curry is retiring/retired, no Warriors fan will care if he won a ring for them at Oracle or downtown SF. It's a silly symbolic argument and the idea that the Warriors should attempt to save Oracle arena and waste a ton of money into it is ridiculous.

well to be fair, the forum was still inside LA county.
the oracle is in a different county across the bay.
and not to mention the Warriors represents the state, not a city. lol
but the trip from SF to oracle is just a few minutes away on the BART.
i dont think most people will care at the end.
maybe some based on principals n shit

The big issue is that the move is a lot more inconvenient for the people living in the East Bay than those in the SF Bay and South Bay.
People living in the SF Bay can afford paying the tolls back and going to Oakland or the East Bay is not as much of a traffic or monetary inconvenience as it would be for East Bay residents. Especially with BART.
Traffic towards San Francisco is worse than towards the East Bay. I don't drive but from what I understand the congestion in 101 and 280 will be much much worse than that of 680 and 880 freeway.
It is not a matter of whether or not a fan cares who wins where, it is a matter of how a fanbase becomes impacted and segregated with very few assurances from owners whose connotation is as if they do not mind cutting off any of us so long as they win and get paid.
The move only really benefits those who live in the SF Bay and South Bay area who can afford it. It would not be as big of issue if infrastructure and cost was not so shit.
Again, maybe I'm in the wrong for being angry. Maybe I just do not know better as an international student and international fan.
I'm just accumulating the opinions I have gotten from the people I meet here as well as the times I have seen/heard the guy and base my opinion off that. Having been there last week for three games and also a game a the SAP Centre in San Jose it's amazing how much of a shithole Orcale is. Having the Collesium next to it probably makes it look a little better but there's no saving it. Inside is cramped and the facilities are horrible.
The one thing that is good is that there probably isn't a bad seat inside.
The absolute wrong decision would've been to try and make it work at Oracle. If you wanna discuss keeping the team in Oakland versus SF, then that's a different discussion.
The biggest concern for me in moving to SF is that you'll price out a lot of the fans who made the most noise, but given how much I had to pay to see the fucking Sixers that's probably already happening.

I think there will be even more of a shift in audience than what exists now at Warriors games. Likely a lot more South Bay people, and I agree, less East Bay residents. All the costs will go up. All the post-game costs will go up. Will/can the East Bay demographics pay the extra to keep going?
It's hard for me to imagine anything worse than 880 congestion though. I went to A's games via BART precisely to avoid traffic and the suspect parking around the Coli/Arena.
