Normally not a fan a (too) silly Japanese tuning, but that's a serious good looking Datsun. See the team order are still in place and Danny is the one behind the wheel ;)
After last weekend I'm looking forward to this weekends GP in Suzuka Japan, what a bit of unpredictability can do to a race. One of my favourite, classic/old school tracks and boosted by some of the most dedicated F1 fans in the world.
With Lewis his bad luck last weekend, championship is now definitely Nico's to loose. If he just avoid any more stupidity, Lewis isn´t allowed to make any more errors, forced or not.
Race win should go to a Merc, best mix of power and downforce in the field and therefore most suited to this track. With Ferrari and RBR to be the ones challenging if they mess it up.
Nico will be happy that Kamikaze Sebastian is starting slightly further up the back, three place start-grid penalty from last weeks turn 1 incident.
Things might get a bit more difficult for the Mercs and more interesting for us viewers, if the weather forecast comes through and the Typhoon heading to Japan makes it rain during the weekend and will need some of these.
And it is also Honda's home race and anniversary from last years "GP 2 engine" race, so hope they will show up better this year. And have I mentioned I do like these Japanese F1 fans ;) and if I ever get to Suzuka I do want one of those "car hats".

Was wondering if you were awake at this hour to watch free-practice. :p
I really need McHonda to do well here this weekend.

Nico was on it all weekend, but after first run in Q3, did expect Lewis to take pole. In the end Nico was 0.013 faster.
Ferrari's quicker than the RBR's and closer to Mercedes as I expected, shame about Velvet's three place penalty. Now all we need is something happening at the start/1st corner and we have all ingredients for a great race*
* probably a simple 1/2 for Mercs, with no fight between the two ;)

McLaren =/
By markao Go To PostNow all we need is something happening at the start/1st corner and we have all ingredients for a great race*Nico will push ham out into Turn 1 a la Hamilton on Rosberg 2015. Calling it.
By Kidjr Go To PostShould be a good race as its all or nothing for Hamilton right? All or nothing is a bit of a stretch, but reality is that if Nico wins one and finishes second in the other four races, he is the champ. So yes weekend is important for Lewis, but he cannot make it worse by not finishing at least second.
By Spengo Go To PostMcLaren =/People often forget how, besides the quick corners (downforce) Suzuka is a real power track, so not to surprised by McLaren (other than Renault close to them).

And I would not bet against Nico doing exactly that (please do :P ), also have some money on Sebastian vs Danny meting somewhere in the 1st lap and let's not forget Kimi vs Max ;)
Ferrari's finally qualifying ahead of the Red Bulls and they both suffer from bad luck. After Vettel's three place grid penalty, now also 5 for Kimi for a changed gearbox. (RBRs on 3 and 4, Perez 5 and Vettel 6/Kimi 8th).
Holy shit it is a miracle we had no contact on the start.
Barring anything insane there is Rosberg's championship.

By Spengo Go To PostCome on Max, dont give him anything, hold station mate.gonna get close : P
By Spengo Go To PostHup Max!You're not going to pass Max on the inside, now Lewis knows to :)
Shame about the start from Lewis, so we did not have a fight between the two Mercs, Max did well and Nico, unless some crash/engine problems, will be champ.
If Nico finishes 5th or better in Austin he'll have surpassed his points total for the 2015 season with three races to spare. All the talk has been about Lewis Hamilton's lack of luck, but Rosberg is having a phenomenal season and deserves so much more credit than he's getting.
Q: How hot was the breath of Lewis on your neck at the end?
MV: It was not as hot as in Malaysia.

By Spengo Go To PostSuzuka 2016 - On-board highlightsSaw them earlier and was surprised how early Lewis and also Vettel, passes Ricciardo out of turn 14 (Spoon). While later on Max, all but once, seemed to be fine with his RBR.
And does anyone know a "tool" which allows you to download those Vimeo videos to your HD? In the past this was always possible on the site, but (I think) now the user needs to give you permission, when he/she uploads the video. I can only watch them on my PC.

This should do it - addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper
And this one is good for youtubes - addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-video-and-audio-dow

New race weekend, FP1 starts in 15 minutes, this time we travel to the land of stars and stripes, Austin Texas to be more precise, for the American GP.
Circuit Of The Americas is one of the newest Tilke tracks and even though it sometimes looks like a painted parking lot, it is actually a great track to race on. A good mixture of (technical) corners and braking zones you need for close racing and also some very nice flowing fast corners (1st section) . First corner is the best spot for overtaking after a long straight with it's lay-out and width, you could fit an entire F1 grid in there.\
We have been here before but this is the weekend for the #notsoblessed to reverse his fortunes if he still wants to have a shot at the championship and he is looking for all the help he can get.
It is also the anniversary of last years "gap-gate" and I do hope that if Nico wins he does the same.......or Lewis again ;)
And for those living under a rock and have missed the Hulk announcement, he will be at Renault for next year. I think it is a smart move as the top teams do no seam to think he's good enough for them and at a works team like Renault he might at least have a change to fight for wins in the future.

Unnecessary and as usual far to open for interpretation. Lewis/Max was seen by most as OK, this rule would make it not OK, will see how this goes.
Lets see if Mercs/RBRs can get to Q3 on the yellow tires.
[edit] OK, RBR split strategies, Max yellow, Danny supersoft (red).

Lewis absolutely blitzed that first sector.
Pole wasn't important for Nico in 2015 and 2014 so everything is open.

By Spengo Go To PostLewis absolutely blitzed that first sector.Nico also seemed to mess up his braking in to the 1st corner, but Lewis defiantly won it in that sector. Also really surprised DannyRic did not opt for the soft compound in Q2, curious to why. Hulk mega, all weekend and good to see Carlos in the top 10.

All the proper fans that would give anything to sit in that Mercedes garage and all those women sitting there looking bored as shit.

By Spengo Go To PostThat absolutely sucks for VES. He was doing so well behind Rosberg.does not matter any more (thought you meant the pitstop :P ) let's hope Lewis and Nico end up being close at the end.
[edit] With this VSC that's not going to happen either :P
By Spengo Go To PostOh shit. Kimi.https://my.mixtape.moe/yyorfk.mp4
Brilliant reverse parking from though
Probably get some penalty points for it from Charlie ;)
But very fair from Ferrari to mess up one of their cars race, with one of the RBRs out..............unbelievable how they keep doing that.
Ferrari's problem is Ferrari. Their solution to a problem is just to fire people, as if that will fix the issue. That's just creating more issues, like not having an actual team that knows how to work together.
Sooo.. Sainz for DOTD?

Good win for Lewis, VSC might have cost DannyRic, but don't think he would have kept Nico behind him. Good to see a lot of people in the stands, do like the track so hope we keep coming back. Next race is next week in Mexico, curious if there is more grip on that track than there was last year.
I still believe in Alonso. He will be back at the top one day.
By markao Go To PostGuess Alonso gets it now………for driving the least meters on the track ;)I'm sure Tay-Swizzle has a lot to do with that number but Sunday still had 100,000+ which is excellent.

@ Spengo, forgot to mention it last time, but downloading them worked!
And we are back to back, so this week we are going to Mexico, circuit Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Last year for the 1st time back on the racing calender and mostly remembered for the new tarmac & lack of grip, was great to see cars sliding on all fours so much. And of course the stadium section, 40.000 mad fans packed to getter at a few slow corners, that created a great atmosphere. Who would have thought those low noise engines would ending up being good for something. ;)
Journalist: Hey Nico "if you win and Lewis does not finish you are world champion"
NR : "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat"
........yes I know, still hard to believe, but we reached that point that Lewis does need his wins, but not finishing could mean Nico wins his first title.
And people need to back of Max a little, all the driving style, rule changes and radio message critic, seem to have taken their toll.
And lastly, go Sergio, would love to see him do well in front of these fans
First Free Practice session starts in an hour, hopefully I can get of Civ 6 long enough to watch some of it :P
