He needs to set a time within the 107% rule, otherwise he'll be going to the stewards to determine if he can even partake in the race.
Meh, there'd be little benefit for doing that much running on low fuel and trying to get P1. Even if you want to just throw the tyres away, using FP2 and 3 to get a good race setup has got to be more beneficial.
EDIT: It seems Mercedes spent some engine tokens so the new parts Hamilton and Rosberg got were the new parts. Their final upgrade is due around about the Japanese GP time, but that could change. Lewis at the moment doesn't know if he'll be doing much in Quali or not.
Hamilton just given his 3rd engine. Apparently all 3 were also put in on Thursday to make sure there were no problems, so they've done a ton of engine swaps this weekend so far!
PAddy Lowe saying they'll do the minimum neeeded in Quali to save tyres.

50% chance of rain tomorrow in Eau Rouge https://weather.com/en-GB/weather/10day/l/BEXX7354:1:BE
Interesting Grid, with RBR mixing up their tire strategy, curious how long Max can make those tires last tomorrow. Looks like Mercedes really has problems with to much heat in their tires, so could be a great race with 5 guys fighting for the win.\
Oh and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL Honda (Fenando :( )
By Spengo Go To PostVerstappen hype! I bet nico will have a bad start tomorrow.Have no real memory of previous years, but don't you want to be the second car going through Eau Rouge (slipstream).
If so I hope Nico does not mess it up to much, although Max tires might help him at the start, so he could be 1st up to the Kemmel straight even with Nico doing ok.
Last year we saw that pole is actually not as great an advantage as it leaves you vulnerable on the Kemmel straight.
Not an unentertaining start!
vettels fault I think, cut in far too tight.
Hamilton up to 12th already. All according to keikaku

That was clearly VETs fault. There was enough space on his left to fit the whole field and he cuts RAI off to his right.
By Pele.gif Go To PostNo ones fault there, but that was a very risky movie by verstappen
I dunno, raikonen gave him space to come on the inside but vettel cut across him because he didn't know max was on the inside. Accident but vettels fault
Could see Hamilton on the Podium I reckon. Depends on Massa, Perez etc and if they can get past him while he's on the Mediums

Max tries to make up for his poor start on the inside and Vettel takes the corner thinking only his team mate is on the inside, who is not going to drive into him. Kimi is forced to go wider by Max and there is no room because Sebas takes a narrow line. If everyone new there would be 3 cars it might have been ok, this way it was always going to be to crowded.
Magnussen lol
Surely this must finally settle, that he got no spot in F1. Get him out of there please.

By Pele.gif Go To PostHamilton can win this nowI can imagine the tears.
Shame Max en Sebas messed up that first corner, no real race after that. Nico perfectly controlled race and deserved win. Daniel benefiting, after poor start, from mess 1st corner and good race after. Lewis lucky with SC/Red Flag, but limits damage to Nico with final podium place.
Max need to cool down a little, aggressive defending ok, but you need to respect the other just enough (today not the case with Kimi (Kemmel)).
With Lewis still in the lead after his engine penalties it his to championship to loose now.

No more time for discussions about last weeks controversies, because we travel to Italy for the next race.
Monza is Ferrari's home race and the tifosi will be out in full force to shout their team to a win.
However with 75% of the track at full throttle it hard to see past another Mercedes domination. So my money would be on them to make it three in a row, but maybe Vettel can bring the 1st Ferrari win since 2010.
It will also be Felipe's last F1 race at Monza, as he announced his retirement to F1 today (end of the year). Not going to miss him (williams years), but over his career he showed he had the speed/skill to belong in F1 and for me he will be remembered by his 11 wins, the almost 2008 WC, Hungaroring incident and the "Alonso is faster than you" ;) .

Yeah I'm expecting Nico and Lewis to go ALL out on this one, Lewis for the pole and win though, he seems really confident in that engine from his no upgrades comment.
Already a second for MER, going to be a good weekend/s. Hopefully it's because it's only FP1, but a second is a lot.
(If only)
I'm really hoping 2017 will see RBR, FER and MER on equal footing. The battles are going to be great with RAI, VET, HAM, VES, RIC.

Single lap run might look close, but Mercs were in a different league on the long runs, Fer/RBR reasonable close to each other.
Nice to see McLaren getting up there on a power track like this, they are definitely making progress
By Spengo Go To PostMercedes plsLuckily I always cared more about racing (no matter position) and only after that who would would win ;)
How do I avoid just throwing the remote at the tv when they put in laps like this…
Qualifying even more depressing, as Mercs are only cars to start on Softs in the race. But behind them few cars are nicely grouped together, so we might see some decent race, even though it isn't for the win (that one is for Leis)
Great scenes in the GP2 as the safety car dives in front of the wrong car, while the real race leader is at the very back of the pack about to lap the back markers. SC is having to wave at the drivers to get them to overtake him so he can be in front of the real leader.

Was a reasonable clean race, other than some 1st chicane action and the usual flying Canamanas (probably not all his fault this time ;) ) Let's see if the GP3 guys can say the same after the race.
And McLaren finely confirmed that Jenson will hand his racing seat to Stoffel next year. Curious if his GP2 domination/speed was genuine or just poor field, but being Ferando's team mate will sort that question out pretty quick
Jenson Button to step down from McLaren F1 race seat in 2017 (@Autopsort)
Jenson Button will step down from Formula 1 racing in 2017 and be replaced by Stoffel Vandoorne, but will stay with McLaren as an ambassador and reserve.
"In an announcement chairman Ron Dennis insisted should not be interpreted as 'retirement', McLaren said Button would take a sabbatical next year but continue working with the team."
