By markao Go To PostAmazing some parts completely dry others like this, never seen anything like it.It's quite common on the Ring though. The weather struck at the most evil place possible, just where you need to brake hard after one of the fastest parts of the track.
Great race, weather delivers again.
Daniel throwing his own race away with silly stop, Lewis won it with his tactics. Nico such a pussy in the wet (overheating brakes don't buy in to that, see end race were he lost a place), Perez brilliant.
Max bit silly, let's forgive the kid after his first half of the race and it is still new car, but he needs to move on from this quickly.

Interview Daniel mention the team called him in, just wasn't ready, so I take the previous comment back.
Amazing how Red Bull messed this one up.

stealth bragging ;)
Just kidding, must have been amazing seeing those cars going through the swimming pool chicane.

Man it really was, as with most sports sometimes you really dont appreciate how fast these cars go until you see them live, its incredible.
By Kidjr Go To PostMan it really was, as with most sports sometimes you really dont appreciate how fast these cars go until you see them live, its incredible.I remember seeing F1 cars for the first time in Spa, still the old busstop chicane during a testing day (10 €, how the times have changed). First car approaches at 300Km/h plus and I was sure he broke something on his car and was going to crash. Until the driver hit the brakes just before the 100m marker and took the chicane just fine, brain could not comprehend it.

I've always wondered whether F1 drivers drive on reaction or more from memory
Canadian GP this weekend at the circuit Gilles Villeneuve , lovely track for great racing and maybe raining on Sunday
Oh and some Heineken sponsor news, don't drink and .......

By Spengo Go To PostMassa's crash was sponsored.I was thinking the same, some nice air time for Heineken :P
I don't understand why they don't put the tyre info next to the fastest times during live coverage, it's such an obvious thing to do.
Mercedes are definitely pushing their aero development now, they have changed basically every single part of the nose-cone.

If gaps are somewhat representable for true pace, Ferrari and Red Bull bit closer as I expected, could be fun race. Let's see how the rest of the weekend unfolds.
Looks like there is some real chance of rain today, could spice up things a little.: Weather Radar - Montreal

Seriously cool, already thought Nico had him the first time he tried, but nothing wrong with defending your position :p
Nice race, thought Ferrari was better on the tires, so strange they picked the 3 stop.
Nothing done wrong by Lewis, proper (hard) defending position in 1st corner and lovely to seee Bottas/Williams up on the podium!
I need a gif for the cheeky Horner smile :p
Not a big fan of Hamilton but I appreciate what he did. Tale of the infinite tires. Seriously impressive tire management for him for two races. Ferrari = England confirmed
Happy for Bottas. Really solid drive with a worse car than those around him. Also 1 stop. He just always impresses at Canada.

Next race on the Baky City Circuit in Azerbeidzjan
No idea what to expect, except Mercedes powered cars being happy on the long(est) straight of the season

Not sure what to make of the track, some interesting parts but that straight is mega long.
looks great

By Kidjr Go To PostHamilton quickest! If no more engine troubles, it looks good for Mercedes powered cars and i cannot look past Lewis for the win.
It is however still Friday so let's hope Fer/Ren find some more pace.
Mercedes pole,others look close,
poor Valerie and Perez absolutely stupid to bin it in the last few seconds

Very uncharacteristic of Lewis today. Dominant whole weekend and derped when it mattered.
Well done Bottas, having a shit qualy yourself wasn't enough apparently, you just had to impede someone else.

Silly Max Monaco like error from Lewis, almost out of no where. Hulk messing up/Perez awesome, specially after what happened in P3. Daniel probably did think he would be on the front row and shame for Max the red flag/Bottas messed up his Q session.
Lots of quick guys to far at the "back" of the grid, should make for a exiting, (V)SC filled, race tomorrow.
By Spengo Go To PostWTF is Red Bull doing? The tires (red) did not last more than 3 laps, yellow maybe 10+, so they had to switch. With hindsight they should have done it earlier, or maybe start on the yellow ones.
Do not understand the benefit for us fans, why racers cannot be helped when they need to switch something with their engines modes. Good win for Nico, great for championship and another faultless drive by Perez!!!

Feel like RAI could have done better at the end there. He's just collecting paychecks at this point.

I missed the beginning of the race and I was wondering how RIC had dropped back to P9.Would not say strategy, maybe set-up or heat related, but after a few laps Max/Daniel were 2/3 seconds slower as the cars around them. Yellows were bit better, but only on the mediums (white) they had some pace, without the massive drop off at the end.

I dropped supporting Kimi years back, had one good season at Renault, but since he has been just to slow. Ferrari need to find someone that pushes Vettel a bit more.
Shame Mercedes guys are so serious, with that talk to his engineer and no fix for his problems, I would have told him it was "hammer-time" ;)
This weekend we race in Dietrich's country, Red Bull Ring in Spielberg
Another power track, Sebas already with a 5 place grid-penalty, so we might as well start a rain dance early to avoid another Mercedes dominated race.
Rosberg's suspension failing and going of hard, curious if they get his car fixed before Q.
[edit]Rosberg also needs a new gearbox, so should be easy win for Lewis and an interesting race with Nico/Sebas trying to make up places, due to their grid penalties.

Modern F1 cars do not like those high kerbs, latest victim (and a biggie) Kvyatt

Yesterday Max asked for a replacement of the yellow kerbs. No one care. Today three more drivers get to deal with these kerbs. Curious to see if they'll take measures for the race.
By Kidjr Go To PostMarkao were are force india getting this speed from?Simplified, it is their 15 minutes of fame, that they always have at this time of the season(calendar) Their car strongest point is their engine, lack a bit aero/downforce and the last three races all have been engine-power dominated (long straights).
The previous two tracks had long straights and there were also a lot of 90 degree corners, no high speed aero ones, ideal for them. This weekend they lost to much in the last two sectors (mainly middle--> high speed corners), but were quick in 1st sector. They were fighting for last spot in Q3, but change of weather meant Hulk got "lucky", do think P10 would have been his in dry.
Race, you cannot overtake in highspeeed corners and they do have the speed on the straights, so curious were he ends up.
Happy Birthday, Vettel.
On the up side, the explosion happened right in front of the grandstand. Probably a pretty cool thing to witness for the audience.

Must have sounded great also :p
Looks like some on two stops some on one (Lewis/Kimi), safetycar might have helped them a lot. (unless yellows last 50+ laps?)
