Anyone excited for the new season?
I just finished watching qualifying for Melbourne and didn't think the new rules were that bad until Q3 where no one had time to put in a new lap and just sat in the pit. Sounds like they are already going to scrap it.

Great how everyone already deemed this season boring after the first qualifying session :P
great race so far, now come on Max

Toro Rosso fucked it up. Their pace is good enough for much better positions than 9 and 10.
The team was ready for Max and Sainz just claimed the pit, resulting in the team not being ready for Max and throwing away his race.
Yes, Max needs to calm down but Sainz has also been locking it up and parking on the apex all race.

In the end two Mercs on top, but that's shows how little there need to happen to make it am enjoyable race.
Great result for Ricciardo and Massa, Torro Rosso messed up their race strategy, or maybe the crash did, but they should have stayed out longer on their middle stint and Max needs to calm down when things don't go as planned ;)

What a début for Haas though.
By markao Go To PostTorro Rosso messed up their race strategy, or maybe the crash did, but they should have stayed out longer on their middle stint and Max needs to calm down when things don't go as planned ;)Apparently the car burns through tires quite quickly. Quite a lot of oversteer, which is having its toll on the rear tires.
- Bit silly tire rule that drivers rather start 9 to11 1th, than trying to get in to Q3.
- Mighty lap by Lewis after the first one messed-up in Q3, again faster than in 2004/5
- Could actually be a good race, both at the front and in the middle
Now time for some footy, Liv-Spurs and El Classico

By Hitch Go To PostCan't help but dislike Hamilton.
Saturday may have been a shitfest (again), but Sunday definitely made up for it. Pretty good race.
Grosjean, Verstappen and Vandoorne were great.

Just not sure how much is because racing and how much it's just different tires, but at least it was entertaining.
And definitely a sucker for nightraces and the sparks :P

By Spengo Go To PostSo the old qualifying format is returning for the Chinese GPLet's wait and see this time :P
Praise Allah
Hulkenberg pulling a little " Schumi" in Q2 :P He could have parked that car somewhere save, poor Massa.
By Spengo Go To PostGreat lap from the Honey Badger. If we ignore Nico ;), qualifying result looks to a promising race.
Boring race up front, but that midfield fight delivered. That scene in the pits though, almost ended up in a destruction derby.
I would love for them to move to a full canopy, aka:
I think that looks incredible and a proper evolution for Formula 1.

By Spengo Go To PostI do hope that the cars will turn out like that – Though I doubt it.Not my thing at all.
Formula 1 for me is openwheel racing, that McLaren is one step to far. You might as well cover everything like a modern LMP car. Red Bull solution is ok, better than the "halo" one and if it indeed helps with safety, without other negatives (getting out of car), they should go for it.
Qualifying should be interesting from p7 on, rest looks set --> Merc(1)Fer(2)/Wil(3), maybe the problems of heating the super softs can catch some people out.
Guess its not Lewis his year ;)
Shame, seeing Nico messing up his fastest lap and still easily being on pole, because the rest is so far behind.
Let's hope race is like the previous ones this year more exciting.

By Spengo Go To PostSurprised how reliability only affects Lewis.Season just started, so let's see how it works out.
Strange thing is, that it is the same problem, that Mercedes thought they fixed. So hopefully they do not need an engine change like the last time, so we can have him and Sebas coming through the field and pushing Nico a little (please safety car ;) ).
The Mercedes pace is disgusting. Really hope Ferraris don't screw up today. Also, can't wait to see the Bottas vs Raikkonen battle for 2nd Place, maybe a throwback to last year's race? ;)
Kvyat, Verstappen, Vettel and Hamilton all close together for the start. Should be tasty.

By Spengo Go To PostMax was driving so good, ffs… Hopefully he gets a Red Bull next year.Max does not have to worry, shown enough at his young age that he will end up somewhere good, even if it is not next year. Having said that, probably will be at Red Bull next year, as I believe he is on a three year contract and I guess Red Bull want him to stay with them.
Kvyat definitely rear ended Sebas in the first one, but I do not know why Sebastian went of throttle in that long corner, same effect as stepping on your brakes and I don't think anyone expected Sebas to do that. (have to see few more onboards before I blame that one on Kvyat ;) )
Not the most exiting race of the season and it looks to be Nico's season.
Ecclestone is still a POS, news at 11:
"We're going to get a lot of pitstops now when they have to stop to clean the screen and things," he said when asked by Motorsport.com about the Aeroscreen.
"That will be good."
Asked if he liked the look of it or preferred the Halo, he said: "Not particularly. I don't like any of them," adding that the sport should do "nothing" with regard to cockpit protection.
Breaking: Red Bull swap Verstappen and Kvyat with immediate effect

Red Bull Racing will have a new driver line-up from the Spanish Grand Prix. Max Verstappen will be joining the team to drive alongside Daniel Ricciardo. Daniil Kvyat will continue to drive for Red Bull and will re-join sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso. It's happening. This is just as much about keeping Max as it is about punishing Kvyat. Slight political move by Marko.
Christian Horner, Team Principal says, "Max has proven to be an outstanding young talent. His performance at Toro Rosso has been impressive so far and we are pleased to give him the opportunity to drive for Red Bull Racing.
"We are in the unique position to have all four drivers across Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso under long term contracts with Red Bull, so we have the flexibility to move them between the two teams.
"Dany will be able to continue his development at Toro Rosso, in a team that he is familiar with, giving him the chance to regain his form and show his potential."

Not sure what to make of it,
don't feel Daniil really deserves it, bit harsh and I still have doubts it might be a bit to soon for Max. But Red Bull probably has far more data and know the people they are dealing with, so let's see how this works out.
I can see clearly now that the accident in Russia was a symptom of the pressure of potentially being demoted. In the end RBR will have four drivers on their toes. The only loser in this whole ordeal is Kvyat obviously. The weekend is going to be super interesting, I can hardly wait.
Spain has to be the time for Lewis to get in his bag. No more fuckery in the qualifying sessions, no more fuckery at the race starts, just throw down the gauntlet from the first practise session, to all three quali sessions, to the last lap of the race and let Rosberg know that he is not going to get a cakewalk to the WDC.
On another note, Im super curious to see how Verstappen does this weekend against Ricciardo. I expect Daniel to have the edge, purely because hes been situated in a position of comfort for the last three years, but I wanna know if Mad Max is capable of pushing Ricciardo in a way that Kvyat wasnt.
